Oil money sharing out in Mudland already

Narper 2015-08-01 15:47:51

“The increase in Ministers salary is under consideration. All people that concern the House of Assembly, so that will include Chief Whip, the Opposition, Ministers, and Vice Presidents and so on,” he said.

Guyana Times understands that the increase would see the Prime Minister and First Vice President Moses Nagamootoo earning some $1.7M monthly an increase of over $200,000 monthly plus vacation benefits and perks that total more than another $500,000.The three other Vice Presidents – positions not existing under the previous administration – Sydney Alicock, Carl Greenidge, and Khemraj Ramjattan will earn some $1.3M more than double the $579,000 they would have earned as ministers. The vacations and other benefits are also one $500,000.

The fifteen Senior Ministers will earn now earn $1M -an increase of over $400,000 or 74% monthly. The 12 Junior Ministers will each earn $700,000 monthly and like senior Ministers will be entitled to the $500,000 benefits. Therefore all the ministers- all 27 of them will also receive a duty allowance, an entertainment allowance, $45,000, housing allowance; chauffeur allowance of over $100,000 and annual vacation allowance of $420,000.

The APNU and AFC, when in Opposition, had vigorously spoken out against the “abuse” of taxpayers’ money to fill the pockets of the “greedy” government officials and Carl Greenidge then shadow finance minister had written a letter in the Stabroek News just before the elections, complaining about the “lifestyle” of PPP/C ministers. He complained, “ PPP ministers have always paid themselves higher salaries than existed prior to their assumption of office…By 2014 the Minister of Finance was receiving $579,951,and today the PPP ministers’ vacation allowance at $420,000 is ten times the minimum wage.”

Let's run this by Dukes before we comment, must be a reason for a 74% increase if that story is correct

The Guyana Times has a headline which claims that the Government is giving itself a 100% pay increase and you ask me whether it is true or false. The exact amount will be told to all and sundry on August 10th and then when it is nowhere near a 100% increase, the Guyana Times would say that they were going to give a 100% increase and because of their exposure they scaled it back significantly and people like you would buy that bullcrap because that is what you want to believe.

Guyana Times is owned by Jagdeo's BFF and thus it is not only unlikely but IMPOSSIBLE for them to be privy to the discussions currently taking place by this administration. When right wing blogs quote sources close to the Obama Administration you know it is false.

Curtis 2015-08-02 12:23:43

so it's false then....

Mark Benschop says he hopes they don't do that. I guess a leak of a high number to later settle for a more 'reasonable ' amount perhaps?

Gotta love politicians

and why a raise NOW? hopefully no raises

So I guess the truth is, its not exactly 100% increase....

But why would there be a need for ANY increase?

only a few months ago when the current government was in opposition, their stance was that the government is getting fat off of the tax payers?

That said, since the new government, we have had crime increased, economy going downward...

Some APNU/AFC supporters are saying that the PPP, who is out of government AND parliament is responsible. If the PPP is so powerful, even when out of power the the APNU/AFC is really impotent.

If the increase is 80% then you have a point. If it is the same 10% that the civil servants are getting then the article is false, misleading and mischievous.

But why would there be a need for ANY increase?

To maintain the differential between a P.S and a Minister.

only a few months ago when the current government was in opposition, their stance was that the government is getting fat off of the tax payers?

Not because of salary but the ridiculous perks like a electricity bill in the hundreds of thousands and medical bills in the millions etc.

That said, since the new government, we have had crime increased, economy going downward...

We have also had a much more successful capture rate of criminals(white collar and violent crime)

I suppose you want to blame the new Government for what took place in the sugar industry a mere 2 weeks into their tenure.
The rice deal with Venezuela fell thru because Madman Maduro is desperately seeking to stay on in power and his country is Collapsing.

Quite frankly I am tired of Guyana being labelled a narco state so hopefully we can start prosecuting some drug barons. smile

You are like the rest of the APNU/AFC party, fellas with axes to grind, with the actual progress of the country second to your personal vendattas and angst at other peoples' success. When I say progress I mean largely the standard/quality of living for the majority of Guyanese.

Good luck trying to eradicate the drug trade, that genie aint going back in the bottle. How is the greatest power in the land, the USA, doing in that arena?

Of course they should be blamed, Granger is no statesman, he is an idiot. Imagine taking such an aggressive stance against Venezuela when you are depending on them for a large sector of your economy.

Now AFTER losing the deal, he has cooled down with a more conciliatory tone. Talk about being a ass.

He should have secured the rice contracts FIRST and maintained a much more diplomatic stance on the border issue UNTIL NECESSARY. The guy was implying a readiness for war even before being elected, now that he realizes, ALL of the support the international community was giving him was only VOCAL. No one would go to war with him.

Now he has cooled his stupid ass down. In the first place he should have realized the utter folly of trying to engage a country with almost 40X his population, size and power in a show of strength.

He is like the rest of the government, they LOOK the part, TALK the part but cannot PERFORM the part.

Social media

On social media, Guyanese wasted no time in berating the Government for mulling a pay hike for itself of a greater magnitude than what is being offered to the public.

Trudie Daniels-Clarke said “I am hoping this is not true….I would more rather see 100 per cent increase for teachers and Police” while Rehanna A Rahaman suggested that, “Hmmm full them pocket first.. no wonder the school children 10 grand was taken away.. plus the false promises to teachers and others… Smh..”

Another facebook user, Nanda Juman said, “Omg…weren’t they making outrageous minister salaries a big campaign thing? And didn’t they say the economy cant afford to raise the salary of public servants? Whats this now?

And where are all the supporters who blindly justify everything they do and say? How will you justify this now?”

2 days gone and the government is yet to categorically deny the story

Finance Minister Winston Jordan had confirmed that Cabinet is actively considering a salary increase for not only Ministers of Government but advisors as well as Members of Parliament.

He would not confirm nor deny the figures that have been floated in the public over the past two days.

Your credibility is 0%

You come here with your daily bullsh*t and calling everyone out on their intellect--the only ones you are impressing are the party supporters. When I said to you the other day that I thought the government deliberately let it slip that pay increases were on the horizon as a way to feel out the reaction you did not challenge that but instead went after the amount of the increase that was quoted which I thought was excesssive. I mentioned then that I found it quite interesting that the same government who were crying that the treasury was empty now had money to give themselves a raise. A pattern is emerging...more on that later.

In the meantime, you dodged my comment on that Mark Benschop post with your typical deflection on asking what I thought about that post. It's not what I thought, its about you posting that bullsh*t and then trying to dodge/ignore the follow-up. Run with that.

The Government let it slip to the Guyana Times owned by Bobby Ramroop???
All the other outlets were quoting Guyana Times. This Government would leak information to the Guyana Times to guage what public reaction would be???

You are either willfully ignorant or a complete idiot!!!!!!!
With Sugar and Rice in trouble you need to guage what the public reaction (and more importantly what the PPP supporters reaction would be because it is mainly PPP supporters who believe what is written in the Guyana Times) to a 100% increase in salary of Ministers would be?????

Your reaction to my post on Mark makes me realize that you have absolutely no understanding of Guyana's politics or who Benschop is.
Benschop has been in the cross hairs of the PPP for years so when he was quoted by Larr,I made the ironic comment that he was a madman and anything he said was a lie which is what the PPP have been saying about everything he has claimed in the past.
The thing is you don't know and don't know that you don't know.

Old Sideburns has no facting shame. He's so quick to call the Times as bias but was busy posting all that shyte from Kaieteur news during the previous administration.

Newsflash Old Sideburns. All the papers in Guyana are biased and have a political slant! That's how journalism has always been in Guyana and will always be in Guyana. Just like in the U.S. and A. wink

Ignorant, yes on many a subject. Idiot, perhaps I am indeed--I let my peers do the judging of which you are not.

Your response reminds me of a certain blowhard who had a similar MO. He would call out everyone on their lack of intelligence. This went on until I decided to fact check his bullsh*t and started to challenge him. We know how that ended up.

You remind me of him, although you are not that "rabid." See, I know how you wrote that statement. I can't tell if you wrote it such a way to give yourself wriggle room, just in case it was proven false but it was written in a way to give you enough play to have it both ways regardless of the outcome. The problem, is your writing style gave you away.

So yeah, I may be ignorant and an idiot but you are full of sh*t with zero credibility. Gwan with yer bad self government spokesman, you are doing well. Remember, for all your reversal, you yourself recommended me to visit Benschop Facebook page to learn about what is taking place in Guyana or was that sideburns speak?

Here is your quite again which outed you as a fraud--

Do you think that Mark Benschop's announcement on fassbook of the arrest of Rajput Narine for the murder of Courtney Crum-Ewing and claiming that he(the suspect) is said to be a bodyguard for former controversial Attorney General, Anil Nandlall has any credibility whatsoever????

Personally I believe this is a TOTAL FABRICATION by a DELUDED MADMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not calling the Guyana Times biased. The Chronicle is biased,Stabroek news is biased,Kaieteur News is biased.
The Mirror,The New Nation and The Guyana Times are papers that represent the PPP, the PNC and Bharrat Jagdeo. They are not so much biased as having a particular agenda.
Likewise MSNBC and CNN are biased but Fox News has a particular agenda

Well so much for hoping you had at least one honest bone in your body.
