WICB PressRelease: KINGSTON, Jamaica – The West Indies Cricket Board is very saddened to hear of the loss of life and damage to property that has taken place in Dominica during the passage of Tropical Storm Erika.

The weather system battered the island on Thursday with heavy rains reportedly causing streets to flood and rivers to overflow.

Official reports have described the destruction as one of “epic proportions”, and as many as 20 people may have been killed.

“It was with great distress and sadness that we received the news about Tropical Storm Erika which has caused loss of lives, injuries and damage in Dominica,” said WICB president Whycliffe “Dave” Cameron.

“On behalf of the directors, management and staff of the WICB, I would like to convey our heartfelt solidarity with the people of Dominica who have suffered great loss from this natural disaster.”

Dominica is the home of WICB Vice President Emmanuel Nanthan and base for the newly-formed Windward Islands Volcanoes franchise which takes part in the WICB Professional Cricket League.

“Our prayers are with Vice President Nanthan and all Dominicans,” said Cameron. “We are praying that all citizens and residents to Dominica will have the patience and fortitude to deal with the aftermath of this natural disaster.

“While the country and people are undergoing this serious crisis, we want to assure them that the WICB fully understands the seriousness of their loss and is committed to contribute in any possible way to help them overcome the impact of this natural disaster and in alleviating the stress of the affected victims.”

Windsor Park, the international match venue in the Dominica capital of Roseau, hosted the first Test between West Indies and Australia last June.

That is a very remarkable statement , coming from an Entity , that has Recklessly allowed itself to be enmeshed in a potential lawsuit of
not , 42 cents ; 42 dollars ; 420 dollars ; or 420,000 dollars , but
42,000,000 Dollars .

It did not have to go down like that , but those in the governance of Cricket in the Region are Arrogant & Fastuous in their governance of Cricket in the Region .

I believe that could work , but they
never think like that . Their first
Priority is Self Preservation .

They do not have the ability to think outside the Box . Their brains aint wired that way . They are going to
say they have no money , and because of their Recklessness in the India
Saga they will be Right .

But it may be possible to appeal to Corporations in the Region , to help defray the cost of this Project . But
that will require them condescending to ask for help , something that are unaccustomed of doing .

The Governments in the Region could be asked to get involved . However I
expect that there would be a Public accounting of what they got & what
they spent ; especially if they get
Taxpayers money .

UWI, WICB Celebrity T20 to help Dominica

Wednesday, September 16 2015

The University of the West Indies (UWI) in partnership with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will host a Celebrity T20 cricket match in Barbados on September 26 in support of Dominica, as the island continues to grapple with the devastation left behind as a result of the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on August 27, 2015.

The T20 match at Kensington Oval which aims to attract a soldout crowd, will see a WICB President’s Celebrity XI play against a UWI Vice-Chancellor’s Celebrity XI.

Each team will field six West Indies’ cricketers and five Caribbean celebrities. Former West Indies’ and Trinidad and Tobago cricketer Brian Lara, Tobago- born UK-based footballer Dwight Yorke and Jamaican Olympian athlete, Yohan Blake are among the first sporting personalities to confirm their availability for the benefit match. For the West Indies team players, it will be the final home game before departing for their tour of Sri Lanka
