HEADLINE: Hendriks: Simmons treated too harshly

CaribbeanCricket.com 2015-10-06 06:55:05

KINGSTON –– Former West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) director, Jackie Hendriks, believes the regional governing body was wrong in its decision to suspend West Indies head coach, Phil Simmons, for recent comments he made regarding team selection.

Hendriks, a retired president of the Jamaica Cricket Association, is of the opinion that what should have been done instead was for Simmons to be reprimanded with a warning.
“I can understand the frustration that Simmons may have felt with him going and talking to [Dwayne] Bravo and [Kieron] Pollard, and wanting them to play, and his frustration of not getting them to be a part of the one-day squad,” said Hendriks.

“However, it’s rather unfortunate the comments he made. They were totally out of place, and temperate, and, should have been kept to himself,” added Hendriks. “However, having said that, I don’t believe the action of the board to suspend him was the right one.”

Good on you Mr. Hendricks. The amateurish manner in which this matter was handled speaks volumes of what passes for mgt when a groupie is in command.

We like it so.

Well its kinda useless to be taking up so much column space when the man already declared temporary insanity.
Simmonds probably out there looking other work as we speak. So clearly he has moved on, time for us to do same. But its a slow news day in WI cricket... so what the heck.. lets dissect every-word of hendriks statement.

Cherri you should know. Is Simmonds looking another work, knowing that his authority been compromised?

Even if I knew the answer to that question, do you think it is in my place to come on here and say it?..........he will reveal his plans in time, cool out, ...........gypsy human.........

Pacy 2015-10-06 11:16:22

Yes. WI dont deserve a good coach. Keep moving on from anyone who is good or even decent. WI Only needs yes men who are willing to just do what is said. Results do not matter any more.

SL has a completely new team which is completely in transition without experience. But still WI are not expected to win anything. Just shows that cricket has been moving on while WICB is thinking that they are moving on.

Jackie is right on the money. Simmons screwed up, was out of line, but a suspension doesn't serve any purpose.

Don't know if you watch South Park, but the WICB reminds me of Eric Cartman's "Respect my authority"

I agree with Hendriks position on the Issue regarding Phil Simmons . It was
in my opinion asinine to suspend a
person on his very first infraction of the Rules .

But these days , the West Indies Cricket Board , under Emperor Cameron
have decided to revert back to its former name ; the West Indies Cricket Board of Control .

The Modus Operandi , is to resort to
swift action , and deal with the consequences afterwards . WE saw that
in the aborted India Tour .

It is this attitude that Rashly & Recklessly spawned the decision , to
Cancel the Tour to India which was in Progress . In essence there was absolutely no consideration , regarding the Financial loss that :

THE BCCI WAS GOING TO SUFFER BY THE

CANCELLATION OF THE TOUR . NO EFFORT

WAS MADE BY THE WICBC TO SALVAGE THE

TOUR BY TRYING TO IRON OUT THE

DIFFERENCES WITH THE PLAYERS . MAKE

NO MISTAKE ; IT IS ONLY THE WICBC

THAT IS EMPOWERED TO CANCEL ANY TOUR

THAT POWER DOES NOT RESIDE WITH THE

PLAYERS . THE RESULT OF THIS

STUPIDITY IS LIKELY TO COST THE WICBC

42 MILLION DOLLARS .

The WICBC did this to the BCCI , the
only friend that it has in the International Cricket Cabal . These
are really not serious People , they are utterly devoid of Business Acumen .
All because they do not think through
the Implications & Ramifications of
what they intending . As a result the
WICBC keeps lurching from Crisis to
Crisis . leaving a continuous trail of Bad Publicity .

Yet expecting that Financial Sponsors
will rush to them . That aint going to happen . Their modus operandi indicates to All & Sundry that they have yet to recognize Reality .

its a real shame that we as Caribbean squabble about ourselves and don't truly unite as one. Slavery days are long over but yet we are so embroiled in mental slavery. As the great nesta bob Marley said " emancipate your selves from mental slavery"
The wicb treats its players like our ancestors of the past, no fair terms and punishment on uprising! These pseudo masters should be abolished from a modern Caribbean !
Instead we fight among our selves because bravo pollard and gayle and co not from our house ie islands... We are all one!
Not one of us will go to work and work for free or work first and take what ever your boss gives you at the end of a month...? Does this mean you don't love your job??? We all like security ..... When you retire you want something to fall back on!
When bravo et al resorted to trade union tactics, it was merely forced upon them, also I believe the TEAM came home, not just 2 players
As for mr Simmons, this guy left a professional set up in a first class country to come back to West Indies to help his own, I'm sure he's being paid less. Instead of we embrace the time proven ideas of the successful homegrown talent we look to demoralize and frustrate him! Do we really have West Indies at heart? Think about these things before you berate bravo pollard and Simmons .... Because outside of the fishbowl we live in ie Caribbean ... These are the guys put us on the map! These are the guys that draws sports tourism to our little islands.... Not Cameron !!
Food for thought .... Given our projected directions we soon will our separate state country because sooner or later TTcB will be tired of being bullied and losing popular favor with the citizens of the country, Barbados and Jamaica will survive on weaker economies.... The rest of Caribbean is left in gods hands, we will be divided and conquered and now one left to blame but our selves...

I agree with what you stated . The problem as I see it is that the people in the WICBC are steeped in 19th Century thinking , where they are the Bosses & the Players their Servants .

This is precisely why I have stated that they have reverted back to the former name :

THE WEST INDIES CRICKET

BOARD OF CONTROL .

In my opinion , the first order of
Business is to have a Complete Restructuring of CRICKET in the Region .This is something that they have resisted for years , despite
commissioning :

THE LUCKY REPORT ;THE PATTERSON

REPORT; & THE WILKIN REPORT .

The Regional Governments asked the
WICBC to implement the changes recommended by the Patterson Report ;
they refused to do that . On several
occasions I have advocated that they
Read a Book written by DALE CARNEGIE

HOW TO WIN FRIENDS & INFLUENCE PEOPLE

Perhaps reading that book would allow them to see the Light , but I aint
about to hold my breath .

I suspect that there is a clause in the contract which mention penalties of up to suspension for breach of confidentiality. The team was not released yet and the head coach have no right to release any info over the media about who is in and how is out. I wish the clause had something about termination for breach of confidentiality. WICB faced lots of embarrassments including the India tour walk out. I support them not brushing off this embarrassment from the head coach.

YOU noticed that too ??

In another thread in this Forum , I have a sneaky feeling that Simmons is doing to the WICBC , something like what the WICBC did to the BCCI .

It is my understanding that Simmons
went to Ireland , maybe to get back his job . If that happens then Kudos to Simmons . He would earn my respect & admiration .
