Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne has picked his greatest West Indian XI from the past 25 years.
The leg-spinner chose Brian Lara as the captain of the side while Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul are the only two active cricketers to have made the cut in Warne’s selection.
The Australian legend has been naming the best XI from all the major cricket-playing nations with his home team, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka already completed.
The criteria for Warne’s selection is that he should have played a meaningful game against the player –– something he was quick to point out at the start of the post on his official Facebook account as to why he couldn’t select the West Indies legend and close friend Sir Vivian Richards.
“The great Viv Richards is the one player I really wished I played against, loved everything about him and we’ve become great friends too,” remarked Warne.

So wait....you mean to tell me that Warne never played against such "greats" like Rawle Lewis, Patterson Thompson, Suruj Ragoonath, Rajendra Danhraj, Nagamotoo, Courtney Browne, Shawn Findlay, Nixon Mclean, Floyd Reifer, Gus Logie, Phil Simmons???

my only problem is that Gayle and Hooper are associated with test losses and not known for saving matches.

Richards last test match was in 1991
Greenidge last test match was in 1991
Marshall's last test match was in 1991...he last wicket was the opener Graham Gooch.
an aging Richards was better than Hooper IMHO
an aging Greenidge MIGHT BE on par with Gayle in test cricket ( and still better than Hooper).
an aging Marshall finished as an opening strike bowler and it COULD be argued he had more value than Patterson with Ambrose and Bishop opening the attack.

why u pick on my comments re a great like Greenidge and NOT a great like Richards or Marshall?
I clearly identified the all time greats who finished in 1991 within Warne's parameters.

If jerome taylor played alongside the bowlers and the team patterson did, he would be regarded as the better bowler. You could possibly say the same for Fidel Edwards.

Replace Harper with him....Hooper is a far better batsman....equal spinner...and equal slip fielder

Shane Warne’s greatest West Indies XI (Since 1990):
D Haynes,
C Gayle,
R Richardson,
B Lara (C),
C Hooper,
S Chanderpaul,
R Jacobs,
I Bishop,
C Ambrose,
P Patterson,
C Walsh.
Good team....and Hooper gets the edge over Sarwan only because of his spin bowling which gives the pacemen some breathing space and to speed up the over rate.
Captaincy for Lara is also debatable

Warne's team is base on the players he played against over his career, not on stats as we the fans are doing.
I am quite sure he may feel it was harder to bowl at Haynes than Greenidge, or why should he include a player, that he only played a few test against.

Croft was finished since 1984...remember Marshall literally replaced Croft in the four-prong.
