HEADLINE: Simmons stands firm

CaribbeanCricket.com 2015-10-12 07:10:44

Embattled West Indies head coach Phil Simmons is standing his ground and until he gets answers, he will not meet with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

Simmons was suspended by the WICB after he made public comments on the non-inclusion of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard on the One Day International (ODI) team for Sri Lanka. Simmons said at a press conference that the reason for the continued snub of the T&T duo was due to “outside interference”.

He was immediately suspended and replaced by selector Eldine Baptiste as coach for the current series in Sri Lanka.

The WICB appointed a human resource committee to meet with Simmons to discuss the matter. It is understood that if they find anything that needs to warrant discipline then Simmons would be sent to the disciplinary committee.

The tail cannot wag the dog!

Give the wuk to someone else and move on, simple!

Simmons outburst was a breach of business protocol, now he is creating further animosity between himself and the board.

What's so wrong in attending a hearing!

Everybody wants to be a don in WI setup

I am getting sick and tired of this damn foolishness!

You getting sick and tired cos the most incompetent piece of the puzzle want to be the one don kmt cool evil evil evil

See Chrissy's post above...the only people acting like they are an exception to every rule is the WICB, and when players, coach and all other aggrieved parties want to call them on it, they take offence.

I've never seen a more incompetent, insecure, trifling, delusional, misguided set of raasholes dan this bunch *spit*

My take is that Simmons request to the WICBC is very appropriate . He wants
to know exactly what Regulation he
breached so that he can properly prepare his defense .

It seems to me that Simmons has hired
a Lawyer ; hence the narrowing of the
Focus on precisely which Regulation
Simmons has broken .

We shall all see , or hear the outcome of this debacle . The WICBC
has a perpetual penchant for doing things without any considerations for
the Implications & Ramifications that
their actions can cause to the WICBC
and those in the WICBC .

That is what they have done for years ,
they Bully their Employees , Some in the Media ; and also try to do that with the Regional Governments .

My take is that the only reason why they condescended to meet with the Regional Governments recently after snubbing them regarding the implementation of the Patterson Report ; and being sued for 42 million dollars , is due to the fact that THEY need Financial Help .

They are now trying to get the Public on their side with a Hive of Activity
Training Camps ; more than One Warm up matches etc . This is at a time when Damocles sword in the form of 42
million dollars is hanging over their heads .

I recall that in the past when I advocated that these things were necessary , the response from their Sycophants here was that they had no money . But wonder of wonders , they have found money despite their serious financial plight to do these things .

Apart from the above , another catalyst possibly is the Report commissioned by the Regional Governments regarding Cricket in the Region . BTW , the stark fact is that while Bangladesh & Zimbabwe have progressed in the International Cricket Arena ; WE have regressed .

I have no doubt that the WICBC is going to fight tooth & nail to have the Structure remain the same . I
hope that the Regional Governments do not buy into this Crap .

rubberd 2015-10-12 18:05:11

The first thing that must happen is the WICB must explain if the two players are under some sort of sanction. If they are not then Simmons is untouchable. The selection process must be fair to all. This is essentially the foundation of the whole issue. In the absence of due process WICB has no basis to proceed against Simmons. Start wrong end wrong

I'm cannot fathom how you folks could support this shit.

This Dave Cameron administration is the worst we've ever had. Totally incompetent and too fcuking heavy handed.

Watch Simmons make them grovel.

rubberd 2015-10-12 19:45:03

It is now standard, especially with TV being the biggest driver of revenues, that coaches and players must be accessible to the press. Simmons was asked a question and he was sincere he should have prefaced it with IMHO

If you leave this MB for a few months you notice immediately the only change is the WICB facking with someone new.

West Indies still sucks, West Indians reminiscing on past greats and the number of posters falling.
Luckily we have a back room.

What Simmonds standing firm on again? He said it was a school boy mistake, now he seeking clarification. This coming straight from Dinas play book in how to escalate a bad situation further.lol lol

Don't worry , Time will inform us all
how this latest episode involving the West Indies Cricket Board of CONTROL
is going to end .

I am of the opinion , that Simmons is
as they say " Lawyered up ", the fact that he is using delaying tactics , to appear before the WICBC seems to indicate that .

It also seems to suggest that he may
be emboldened to delay the proceedings because his case is looking good .

All schoolboy mistakes do not go to suspension. Afterall CEO retweeted about Gayle and had no impact for his school boy mistake.

Now Simmo is asking, yes it was a school boy error, but was it big enough to be suspended. The powers now need to confirm clause based on which he was suspended.

There is a reason Dinas had WICB on its knees all the time. lol lol lol

Commie 2015-10-13 01:30:15

Dinas had a winning hand as long as they had the previous MOU governing every dispute.

When the MOU was thrown out of court Ramnarine promptly resigned and ran for the hills to the safety of text messaging and twitter.

I have no doubt that Dinas as president of WICB would act very much like all WICB presidents and likely more insular than all of them put together.

Its like all politics.

President ....not CEO

carl0002 2015-10-13 10:13:13

I might see this different and of course I could be wrong but after Simmonds declare his school boy mistake, the HR meeting was merely a formality. We could argue that WICB could simply accept the apology and declare the matter closed and move on and I don't know why they did not but perhaps some would complain there was no process in place. So this could be a response to that critique. Who knows.

Or perhaps Simmonds has adopted the position that somebody out to get him which would not be an unusual position for a Trini to take, if you think about. Who would put that in his head though. But I cant see the reason why he would declare it as a school boy mistake , apologize then pick a fight. That makes no sense, unless he now looking for a way to get out of his contract.

I find it very interesting , that just before Our Players play Cricket , the West Indies Cricket Board of Control
always manufacture a Crisis . Hell I
am beginning to think that the WICBC
does not want our players , in a good
frame of mind .

It seems to me that the People in the WICBC do not want our Players to play
in a very good frame of mind . I do not recall that any other Cricket Board follows that Philosophy .

Simmons merely apologized for his outbursts, he has not apologized for saying there was interference, so he has to say which quarter the interference came from and who interfered......you still wondering why it still is an issue? some people probably hoping he doan call names..........if he had apologized for his outbursts and accusations, then I could understand why you wondering....do like we, and wait for the next chapter in the soap.....Drama and the WICB......

Just a question. How far can Simmons or his Lawyers go in their quest to Prove the interference? And can he sophoena stuff such as phone records, emails? Can he go as far back as the world cup?

I know you are lot closer to the action than I am and hence you would be better able to gauge the potential risks to Simmonds. But are you saying, that Simmons would have a problem indicating who and from whence the interference coming from so much so that he lawyer-ed up and why would anybody be hoping he does not call names. I really don't see the big deal in all of this. But as I said, you are a lot closer to the action and have access to info that I don't. In addition u is a part of the legal profession, whose job it is to make something out of nothing

From day one I've been asking as to
whose name Simmons called for running
interference. Initially i thoight it was IPL
contract or sponsor issues....even BCCI....
maybe even an insular island island thing..

Then the WICBC storm the house. Wicb shennanigans
are more interesting than the actual cricket.

This thing designed for Prime time weekly TV
Soap.

And why would you think that I am saying any such thing.........the man know what he say, and he is standing by it, why you think it would be a problem to say who interfered..........but the call is his, who know what he will do.......and when yuh going to battle with the WICB goons nothing wrong with having legal representation...........

POINT 2015-10-13 18:22:35

I am of the opinion , that as usual , the WICBC , once again indulged in shooting , without properly thinking through the implications & ramifications of its actions .

This always occurs when they perceive
that their oversize Egos appear to be damaged by their Employees . This is precisely what happened when it pulled the plug on the India Tour , which was in progress .

The people in the WICBC never ever gave a thought about the Financial losses that the BCCI incurred due to the cancellation of the tour which was in progress .

It is this colossal negligence by the
WICBC that always land them in Trouble . Its members ,never think clearly before deciding on a course of action .

They always end up with the dirty end of the Stick , and it seems that once again they are going to be holding the dirt end of the Stick . They promised on the Mason show that there would be no victimization , yet they indulged in doing that .

Simmons & his lawyer can hit them with this , and I do not think that they can mount a saleable defense if that comes up . Simmons can also claim , that as the Head Coach of the Team , it is his Head & the Captain's head that are on the chopping block ,
therefore it is necessary for him to get the Players he wants . Since the performance of our Players , has an impact on his job as the Head Coach for the Team .

As I stated recently in this Forum ,
making Eldine Baptiste , who was vying , with Simmons for the job which was given to Simmons . The fact that after suspending Simmons Baptiste was selected aint look good , at least to me . I think that other
persons also have that same opinion .
