HEADLINE: WICB To Meet CARICOM's Cricket Governance Committee On Dec 4

CaribbeanCricket.com 2015-11-25 19:14:43

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has acceded to the call of the CARICOM Cricket Governance Committee for an urgent meeting to discuss the state of the Caribbean game.

The calls, which were made two weeks ago, come in the wake of the recently released CARICOM-commissioned Cricket Governance Review, which, among other things, recommended "immediate dissolution of the board and appointment of an interim board".

"I would not, and have never disrespected any leader of the region," stated Whycliffe 'Dave' Cameron, WICBpresident, in response to recent comments made by chairman of the CARICOM Cricket Governance Committee, Dr Keith Mitchell.

"The letter that we (the WICB) published is simply to outline a process that we felt is a reasonably one.

"I needed time to talk to the shareholders, what we would call the constituent members of the WICB, before actually meeting with our leaders.

"If it caused any offence, I sincerely apologise ... again.

"I am now scheduled to meet the ministers on the 4th of December in Grenada," he added.

That is how intelligent people should operate.

You can now haggle behind closed doors and keep any unsavory utterings private. Issue a joint statement afterwards.

This way everybody saves face.

The only way CARICOM can demonstrate to me that they are serious is to tell di autonomous ones that they will be treated like every other business in this region and taxation is coming.

good point but implementation will be difficult,I think that tax was one of the reasons why the ICC relocated to Dubai .

Who knows we might be heading that way ?...... incidentally the ICC is registered in the US Virgin Islands and HQ in UAE

The bandits will move their operations to a tax friendly location or simply follow the money !!

I strongly believe Cameron meant exactly what he said two weeks ago and this sudden change of heart is as a result of continued pressure from cricket lovers around the world. However, although the tenure of Dave Caron and Emmanuel Nanthan, has been very disgraceful yet, I am even more disturbed about the involvement of CARICOM. In fact I can understand why Mr. Cameron disrespected them.

This is the same CARICOM that cannot agree on a candidate for the post of Commonwealth Secretary General, would I be crazy to expect them to help fix WICB, even if they go by the name of CARICOM Cricket Governance Committee?

We just had an opportunity to save WICB by voting Joel Garner, but instead we played our CARICOM politics and chose to give Cameron / Nanthan a second term, when we knew how disgraceful their first term was.

I agree with you but it is a tough call and a fine line to tow, drawing from ponderiver's reply to you.

In my opinion, with a tax implementation, the only ones who will feel the crunch would be the players. I don't think CARICOM want to go that route.

What I see happening is an agreement between the parties for better transparency from the WICB and the speeding up and putting in place Mr.Cameron's proposal for the commercial arm of the WICB which I believe will satisfy the restructuring requirement.

Let me ask you One Question , WHO made it possible that the 2007 World Cup that was held in the Region was a Financial
Success ???

I suspect that you are one of the WICBC Lackeys ; I have noted with interest that those of your Ilk are beginning to surface in the Forum .

For years Bangladesh was being beaten by most Teams , that has stopped ,
and in the longer versions of the game while our Players & Team are Bottom Dwellers , Bangladesh has Progressed while WE have seriously Regressed .

It will be very interesting to hear Cameron & Co , explain the commissioning of several Reports , and then ignoring the salient features of these Reports .

Since the Governments of the Region have requested this December 4th Meeting , I expect that the People in the Region will be informed via the various Media Sources about the
details of this Meeting .

The Regional Governments in my opinion have been too lenient on the
WICBC ; the latter has shown absolutely no inclination that it ever intended undergoing Structural Changes .

Frankly my belief is that both the
ICC & the WICBC should appear in a Court of Law to answer charges . The
ICC for failing to advise the WICBC
that it has an obligation to exercise
Good Governance regarding Cricket in the Region .

In this Regard , the ICC has the Power of the Purse , It could
threaten the WICBC that unless it changes , it can be denied Money .

The WICBC on the other hand has bluntly refused to change its modus operandi , despite commissioning several Reports , and swiftly discarding them . Its manner & style
of governing Cricket in the Region is very Autocratic . It is steeped in
Arrogance ; Incompetence ; Ineptness ; a total lack of Foresight & Vision , and a total lack of Business Acumen .
There exists an abundance of evidence to support what I have stated above .
the end result is that it is a Total
embarrassment to itself and the Region .

This is precisely why Potential Sponsors will not touch it with a 10ft Pole , they are only interested
in Entities that are Winners , and not those who love Bad Publicity that
can tarnish their Brands .
