HEADLINE: Warriors to give preference to region-based players during CPL draft

THE Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has confirmed a stellar line-up of international stars, but the Guyana Amazon Warriors will most likely give preference to the region-based players, according a top official within the Warriors management. The CPL player draft takes place on February 11 in Barbados where 289 players – 157 from West Indies and 132 from overseas – have been registered for the draft.
“We are still in discussion … we want the best players, but obviously we want to give preference to the players in the region,” the official said.
Further this publication was reliably informed that star batsman Lendl Simmons and skipper Denesh Ramdin are unlikely to be a part of the Warriors make-up.
Simmons, who has been the team’s highest run-scorer over the past three seasons, and Ramdin are locked in fee negotiations with the local franchise, but Chronicle Sport was reliably informed that no tenable resolution has been reached by the parties. This publication also understands that New Zealand star batsman Martin Guptill, who played for the Warriors during the first edition, is likely to return to the Warriors setup after representing the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots last season.

How will the league survive if an inferior product is pushed on the public? Or, is Uncle Bobby well running dry?

Narine gone, and now Simmons and Ramdin on their way out...it seems that money is tight at the Amazon Warriors.

Don't think it has much to do with money.
Look at it this way, they've had basically the best batsman in Simmons, best bowler in Narine, and pretty good keeper in Ramdin and still haven't won for 3 years.
Time to move on.
A lot the TnT based players seems to want to go back, and that's what happens when you win a championship you see more players wanting to move there, especially if those players are from there.
Thing though is that if most of them go back and the team only allowed to keep 15 then some folks gonna lose their contracts.

In my view, this approach seems to defeat the idea of the CPL. Each team should try and pick the best players available regardless of where they are from. We already have a four day and a 50 over tournament where all the players are from the Caribbean.

Another factor to bear in mind is that this year's CPL may clash with a home Test series with India...I wonder how that's going to play out.
Listen closely to what newdread has to say

Darren Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor, Jermaine Blackwood, Denesh Ramdin, and even Jason Holder will not be pleased if their income's affected by being forced to play Tests instead of CPL....

sure the wicb and the franchises have that sorted out

We will find out on Feb 11 what kind of contracts the CPL are offering the likes of Lil Bravo, Samuels, Ramdin and Holder.
Last season, this is how much our Test players were paid in the CPL:
Shai Hope - 5k
Lil Bravo - 90k
Samuels - 100k
Blackwood - 5k
Ramdin - 50k
Carlos - 40k
Holder - 50k
Permaul - 15k
Taylor - 40k
Bishoo - 5k
Gabriel - 30k
Roach - 10k
More here
In bold are the ones who could be concerned about the timing of this Test series...it will be interesting to see if they get the same prices this auction.

Nah I think the CPL starts just befor ethe India series
Cause I know the Tri series is in June cause a week after the last match in St. Kitts we music festival starts. then following music fest is the CPL then soon as that done in late July is the India series which is late July to August.
so from bout early June straight through to the end of August will be cricket.
3 full months of non stop cricket

Even this could get interesting...Michael Hall just said the West Indies centrally contracted players are only in the draft as potential replacement players.
