WEST Indies cricket is facing the prospect of a player strike on the eve of the World Twenty20 after the 15-man squad appeared collectively to reject the contracts on offer from the WICB.
Darren Sammy, captain of the West Indies T20 side, has written to the board stating the players “can’t accept” what they perceive as “huge financial reductions” in the terms compared to previous global tournaments which, he says, amounts to an 80% cut.
Sammy also stated that 14 of the 15-man squad are not part of WIPA (the West Indies Players’ Association) and therefore had not given the organisation the authority to negotiate on their behalf.
Though Sammy himself stopped short of threatening to withdraw from the tournament, ESPNcricinfo understands that other squad members have not ruled out the possibility. He made it clear that the players would not accept the current offer and called upon the board to “address this urgently”.
“We want to represent the West Indies but the financials on offer we can’t accept,” Sammy wrote.

Seems to me there is a term called, "bargaining in good faith", the pirates of the Caribbean know nothing about. But then, why would they, after all they are pirates.

You have made a very perceptive Observation . I have been called them
the Pirates of the Caribbean in this
Forum for over 10 years .
Look to host the 2007 World Cup in the
Region , they went to the Regional
Governments for assistance , because
the Bums do not own any Cricket
Grounds in the Region .
The Regional Governments , took
TAXPAYERS MONEY , built new Stadia ,
Renovated existing Stadia ; and spruced up the Grounds .
The 2007 CRICKET WORLD CUP WAS A
SMASHING SUCCESS .
About two years ago the Regional Governments politely asked the Bums to Implement the changes recommended
by the Patterson Report , they bluntly refused to do that , and to show their utter contempt of the
Regional Governments , they then
commissioned another Report , called
the Wilkin Report , which they also swiftly rejected .
They can do these things because they have the blessing of the International Cricket Cabal , now run by 3 Countries , England ; Australia & India . Imagine 3 Countries got
together and decided that they must get the Lion share of the Profits , and the other 7 Members AGREED to that asinine deal .
I have no doubt that the WICBC was among the first to sign on , it will
agree to anything as long as it can keep its 89 years old Structure .

Who are the pirates of the Caribbean?.........If you mean the players, why should they bargain in good faith with the senior pirates of the Caribbean, after the first round of blows, would you bargain in good faith the the pirates of the WICB?...

"This West Indies cricket team does not deserve so much money, only to go lose the matches; They cant win anything so why they arguing, they should be glad that there is still some money in it. They can also make extra money if they perform well so that is what they should be concentrating on. They should also face reality that there is no public demand for the west indies anymore, they have lost their appeal and no baddy no interested inna dem."

Let's not confuse the West Indies Test and ODI teams with their T20 side...the first two can't win anything, the last is ranked two of thereabouts in the rankings. The T20 side is the only West Indies side that wins anything.
That said, the above argument makes a good case for going it alone...hmmm.

XDFIX to what end.? Do we want a competitive team in all formats ? Should we not have our best players playing for the West Indies ? Should a player be adequately compensated or what ever the WIPA , WICB decide should be the sum to play for . What of comparative rates of other ICC member countries ? This team has won a World Cup recently . The issue of pay has yet again threatened to let the WICB send a sub standard team to the World Cup .
I guess you support not sending the best team .
