West Indies' new-ball attack has been one of the highlights of this tournament, particularly the sight of the beanpole Alzarri Joseph steaming in and consistently hitting high speeds.

In reply to Norm
Springer strikes
In reply to methodic
Springer bowling with a lot of heart. This team is fired up like I haven't seen a WI team in a long time!
Run out attempt. Not out. Good decision, IMO.
Bang 89-4 in 22.2 overs. Both teams playing well.
Springer at 125 to 130 kph and getting a lot of bounce. Bowling with intent here.
John right on the money - bowling a full length on middle stump.
Bang 95-4.
WOUNDIES losing this. WOUNDIES supporters getting wet by this teams early strides.
Chemar Holder back, replacing Springer.
Cut away fiercely behind square, but well-fielded by Goolie on the boundary. WI giving nothing away.
Overpitches on the pad and is driven to the mid wicket boundary nicely for 4 by the left-handed Zakir Hassan! Bang 100 up.
Six off the over.
Joseph back. On off stump, edged in the air past the vacant 1st-2nd slip for 4! Beautiful leg cutter.
Hetmyer still leaves the slips vacant.
Crowd very noisy.
26.5 Beamer! Warned by the ump. Unintentional, but a free hit. Hit straight back for 4.
Twelve off that over from Joseph, but a big chance missed in the slips.
Holder again. Bowled!!!!!!
Zakir bowled off stump by a superb yorker from Holder! Crowd silenced!!!
Bang 113-4 in 27.1 overs. WI remain focused. Celebrating but not overdoing it.
In reply to Norm
This kid is good, I wonder why he was not in the original squad
In reply to anandgb
Bowls good wicket-taking deliveries.
Shaifuddin in. Lefty. Plays the first ball solidly.
Holder between 125 and 130 too, but delivering from considerable height.
Joseph again, in his 7th over. Above 130 kph. Single off the over.
Bang 115-5 in 29 overs.
They need ten overs from one or two bowlers, only four bowlers bowled so far.
Holder again, in his 9th over. Overpitching a bit in this over, but Bang have gone into their shells - and WI fielding is doing really well.
Maiden! 115-5 in 30 overs.
Bangla will win it if they score above 150+
Goolie to bowl. On a good off-stump length. Getting a bit of turn, and some bounce. Single off the over.
Bang 116-5 in 31 overs.
Woundies are going to lose this if they don't bowl Bangla under 150
Holder with his 10th over.
Overpitched ball driven beautifully thru extra covers for 4 by the right-handed Mehidi Hassan! Frew could have done better on the boundary there.
Five off the over. Bang 121-5. Holder 10-1-36-2.
Goolie again. Scooped past fine leg for 4 by Mehidi! Frew chasing sluggishly again.
Mehedi destroying Woundies bowling.
Edged past slips for 4! 12 off the over from Goolie.
Bang 133-5 in 33 overs. Bang run rate over 4 per over now.
WOUNDIES losing this if they don't pack Bangla under 150!
Pope to bowl. Goes around the wicket the lefty Shaifuddin. Sets his own field meticulously.
Mehidi cuts him thru the gully for 4!
In reply to Norm
Why isn't he bowling Paul?
In reply to anandgb
Exploring his spin options, or saving him for the death.
Bang 141-5 in 34 overs. 25 runs off the last 3 overs.
Frew to bowl. Length on the short side. Getting bounce tho. Frew seems to be having an off-day today overall, but his bowling got better towards the end of his first over.
Three off the over. Bang 144-5 in 35 overs.
Pope again.
Bang 148-5 in 36 overs.
Two off the over. Pope not happy with Hetmyer's field placings for that over.
Frew again. Cut deftly by Mehidy thru the gully for 4 more. Six off the over.
Bang 154-5 in 37 overs.
Pope again. Two off the over.
Bang 156-5 in 38 overs.
Frew again, to Shaiuddin. He takes one off the 1st ball to give the strike to Mehidy. Keeping it tight. Two off the over.
Bang 158-5 in 39 overs.
Frew again, to Mehidy, who likes to cut thru point. Two men there. Carty doesn't pick it up cleanly and Pope yells at him "Nothing!"
WOUNDIES losing this.
Bangla on the roar.
Bang 163-5 in 40 overs.
Frew again. Shaifuddin cuts him nicely past point for 4! The large crowd roars!
Bang 170-5 in 41 overs.
Pope again to Mehidy. Cuts it thru the gully for 4 more!
In reply to Norm
These spinners leaking big time]
In reply to anandgb
I think they were okay, in the circumstances.
Pope almost mankhads Shaifuddin!!! Warns him! Crowd roars!
Bang 177-5 in 42 overs.
Why the spinners still bowling? The pacers could finish the innings off
Springer back. Takes some time to set his field.
50 to Mehidy, off 63 balls! Well played.
180-5 in 43 overs. Three off the over.
Pope still bowling?!!! A short ball on the pads turned past fine leg for 4 by Shaiuddin!
Bang 189-5 in 44 overs. Nine off that over - probably the last over of spin from WI today.
Springer again.
Bang 196-5 in 45 overs. Intense struggle out there.
Paul to bowl. Why not Joseph?
Paul overpitches the first ball but gets away with it. Decent length next ball.
Gets Mehidy with a fierce short-pitched ball now!!!!!
Bang 198-6.
Next man bowled first ball by a good length ball from Paul!!!!
Bang 198-7.
Hat trick ball is fullish, on off. Defended.
Really poor captaincy.. I though Keemo was injured thats why he didn't bowl earlier.. why bowl dem part time spinners when the pacers got so much overs still?
In reply to Norm
Its enough for Bangla to defend. they will close Woundies for less than 150.
In reply to romanticking
It's runs on the board, but less than Bang would have liked, I think.
Bang 199-7 in 46 overs.
Springer again. Bang 200 up!
Bang 303-7. Four off that over.
Paul again. Comms wondering why Joseph will not complete his 10 overs.
Bowled by a swinging yorker from Paul!!! Crowd silenced again.
Bang 205-8 in 47.3 overs.
Bang 211-8 in 48 overs. Eight off the over.
Springer again. Crowd urging on the Bang batsmen. Extras at 22 at the moment (48.3 overs), with 13 wides.
Bowled by Springer, trying to scoop him to fine leg!!!! Springer does his spring dance!
Bang 217-9 in 49 overs.
Paul to bowl the last over. Crowd estimated at 28,000. Huge Bangladesh flags everywhere.
Short rising ball pulled for SIX!!!!
Run out off the last ball!
Bang 226 all out in 50 overs.
Fighting score by Bangladesh!
It's all up to the WI batting now.
WI off to their usual rollicking start, thanks to the Pope!
Uh oh! Imlach gone lbw for 14 to an off break turning to the leg stump! Batsman in two minds. Not sure if he should defend or turn it into the leg side field.
Hetmyer in.
Left arm pacer Mehede to Hetmyer, clocking 124 to 128 kph. Two runs off the over.
WI 46-1 in 6 overs.
M Hasan continues, to Pope. Launches that high. One bounce 4 over covers! 50 up. Launches another fiercely over mid wicket for SIX!!!!
Then Pope is bowled off stump for 38, going for another big hit!!!! Loud roar from the crowd!
WI 56-2.
Carty in.
Mehede to Heymyer. Pulls to mid wicket and it's well fielded. Loud roar from the crowd again! Hetmyer being kept quiet. Maiden.
WI 56-2 in 8 overs.
Shaifuddin to bowl.
In reply to Norm
Hi Norm, I didn't even know the game was on tonight.
As soon as I see this thread, my first thought was where is Norm.
Thanks for your updates.
In reply to tops
You are welcome, bro! Carty looking solid. Just what WI need at the moment.
Shaifuddin clocking about 130 kph and bowling a decent line and length.
Mehede to Carty. He moves down and swipes at a rising ball. Misses, but that was an uncharacteristic shot from him.
Carty drives the last ball of the over beautifully thru the packed covers for 4!!!!
WI 65-2 in 10 overs.
Shawon to bowl slow left-arm spin, to Hetmyer.
He plays a dangerous shot against the line. Fortunately, he connects, but cannot beat the man behind square leg. Gets off the mark with a square cut to point.
Comms talking bout pressure on WI...NO PRESSURE at all....all these guys need to do is bat cool and cruise till they reach 150.
If they reach 150 and Springer or the captain there...it is all over.
In reply to analyst-kid
Agree. They are well ahead on the run rate at the moment. Carty seems solid, but Hetmyer is having trouble beating the field.
Too many dot ball, time to get the ball into gaps
Mehede to Hetmyer. Short outside leg. Hetmyer hooks dangerously and misses! Then he swipes at one wide outside off and misses again.
Hetmyer drives nicely off the pads to mid wicket for a single, and that looks a lot better.
In reply to openning
Naw. They need to consolidate at the moment. Carty looking good today.
WI 70-2 in 12 overs.
In reply to Norm
is pope an opening batsman or a cowlasher? he hit 10 runs in de ova and want to hit 10 off one ball
Hetmyer edges in the air past the vacant slips for 4! Whew. Then he swings one on the stumps hard to mid wicket for a single. He's living dangerously.
In reply to shivnotout
A cowlasher who puts 38 on the board is fine by me.
Hetmyer calls for a new bat at the end of the over and does some repairs to clothes.
Hossein to bowl slow left-arm stuff to him. Takes a single. Carty lifts the next ball nicely over long off for 4!!!
WI 84-2 in 13.4 overs. Carty plays out the rest of the over calmy.
WI 84-2 in 14 overs.
Shawon to continue, to Hetmyer. Sweeps a ball on the stumps to square leg for 2.

Run Rate: 6.00 Overs: 14/50
WOUNDIES losing this. Collapse on the way.
Hetmyer makes room on leg and pulls to mid wicket for 4!!!
92-2 in 15 overs.
Mosabbek to bowl, right-arm off-spin, to Carty. Strokes it to long on for a single.
WI 95-2 in 16 overs.
Mehidy to continue, to Carty. He takes a single off the first ball.
Hetmyer skies the next ball very high into deep mid wicket and gets two. Dangerous living.
WI 99-2 in 17 overs. 128 needed at less that 4 an over. The crowd is quiet.
Sarkar to bowl, right-arm off-spin.
Hetmyer square cuts stylishly past point for 4! Cuts him again for 4 more, same place!!! 50 partnership up.
Short, and Hetmyer pulls effortlessly over mid wicket for SIX!!!!
WI 114-2 in 18 overs.
Mehedy Hasan continues. Single to Hetmyer. Two near run-outs in consecutive balls, and Hetmyer goes down and has a word with Carty.
WI 117-2 in 19 overs.
Shawon comes back, bowling to Hetmyer.
Carty moves down and swings at one on off stump and is BOWLED!!!! The ball was short and did not bounce as much as he anticipated, but that was not smart.
Springer in, with WI 118-3 in 19.5 overs.
WI 118-3 in 20 overs.
Mehedy continues, to Hetmyer. Takes a single off the 1st ball of the over. Springer seems to grasp the situation, and is playing with a fairly straight bat at the moment.
In reply to Norm
what kind of shot was that.
Wicket! That's reckless from Carty! Comes down to mow across mid-wicket when there was no need. A big swipe across the line and he's bowled. Bangladesh have an opening from nowhere
109 with 7 wickets in hand and 30 overs remaining is still easy cruising.
As I said any the two of these batting are there with 150 on the board it is all over.
In reply to shivnotout
A very bad one - in the context. Carty has potential, but he needs work to convert that talent to substance.
Shawon continues, and the batsmen are rotating the strike nicely. Strays on leg and Hetmyer sweeps superbly for 4!!! Goes to 49.
WI 131-3 in 22 overs. 96 needed now.
Mosabbek back. 50 to Hetmyer, off 47 balls!
WI 133-3 in 23 overs. Crowd very, very quiet now. Springer decides its too quiet and goes for a wild swing!

They will continue doing so this Friday in the PCL first class season!
Springer trying hard to curb his natural attacking batting instincts.
WI 137-3 in 25 overs. The silence from the crowd is deafening! 90 required.

WI 160-4 in 33 overs. Five off the last over.

Great performance from the young WI, best of luck Sunday . Bangladesh cricket fans have a special place for any crikey temperature from these parts.
In reply to Commie

All eyes must be after this WC on how each of these youngsters graduate vs the existing players in the region.
With players getting paid its now even harder to get into teams.
In reply to Norm
Springer has some potential but more importantly he has a strong mental fortitude that takes him to a different level.
Hetmeyer is a top bat. The best on this team.

correct
we have to focus on the development of these lads
In reply to voiceofreason
I agree.
Springer has shown skill and character with both bat and ball. His performances will no doubt inspire other young WI cricketers.
Hetmeyer is a top bat.
He's talented, but needs to learn to graft thru periods when he's not in good form. He's a joy to watch when he gets going.

The million dollar question is how do we develop and prepare for the highest level. We lost many talented players during the transition, what did we not do correctly?
We need to look at other countries and implement what they did.
Bangladesh Under-19s 226 (50.0 ov)
West Indies Under-19s 230/7 (48.4 ov)
West Indies Under-19s won by 3 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)

That is how it should be. The PCL salaries need to create a desperation for a place in the regional team. Youngsters, if they want the money, need to find a way to kick the door down.
I feel though that the WICB cannot leave it up to the territorial boards to choose the best possible players. Selectors need to select the best 90 and force the local teams to choose from that 90.
In reply to Baje
agreed. they need to mandate that at least 4 players not from the home territory should be in each squad.
In reply to Baje
I support a WICB development team in the regional comp. they can pull from WI u19 and players like Stanny Simon and Jonathan Drakes and others who can't make even their regional training squad but who have real talent.
