West Indies cricket selectors were yesterday mandated by the WICB to select a new 15-man squad to represent the region in the upcoming ICC T20 World which bowls off on March 8, in India.
The four-man panel of Clive Lloyd (chairman), Courtney Browne, Eldine Baptiste and Courtney Walsh were involved in a teleconference that is likely to result in a new team for the tournament, if the demands of Darren Sammy and the other 14 players who have asked for their contracts to be renegotiated are not accepted by the WICB.
Yesterday, chief executive officer of the Board, Michael Muirhead urged Sammy to take up any issue which he and his players had with WIPA.
“Any issues you or a particular group of players may have with the representation you receive from your association are best taken up with WIPA. As it stands however, WIPA is the exclusive collective bargaining agent for West Indian players—regardless of who those particular players may be at any given time.”

Sammy and Co. Want to play in this tournament.... Badl, but I think they have painted themselves in a corner this time. I'm sure that they all saw the agreement for the tour a long time ago, but it's only when they saw the dollars and cents that things came to their realisation.

Wi players should sign the contract and make their 'demands' during the tournament

That's like saying sign the contract and throw the matches!
Not a bad strategy, if the WICB is foolish to that ploy!

No. Not throw the matches. Not take the field for game 2 due to the flu...each player will need 100 grand to feel better...

What about if they make their 'demands' by sheer weight of performance during the tournament? Their performances here will be seen by all those who have the real money to pay.

Sammy and co feel they should play this tournament since they also feel they can win... They have star T20 players who has been successful around the world and they can do well togather.
The only insane thing he is thinking is that, WICB also wants WI to do well. That is least of their expectations. When they understand, all WICB wants is 15 men to represent WI so that WICB can keep filling their coffer they will think about a different strategy.

The asking for mediation isn't bad
Still though if they've had these figures or even terms for a while shouldn't these questions already arise?
The prize money should go to the team I'm thinking, 50% of sponsorship fees plus match fees to me is pushing it. You get paid to play and more so to win
I hope they can come to an agreement. We need to stop having these issues man
Anyway must say I'm proud of the U19 team.

As must as I hope the stated part in bold isn't true, I am beginning to agree with your comments on the WICB. nd maybe the selectors want also to select a winning team.

Even to an outsider, it is obvious that the WICB has been treating its players shoddily for years. I don't understand how a board that exiles its best 6 players for years, has nothing to show for it, and there is no accountability. Players suffer, fans suffer and World cricket suffers. The ICC needs to have a quick, and maybe not so quiet, word with the WICB Suits, and get this resolved fast. Between them and the PCB, they are making the BCCI babus look professional!

Agreed Pacy. I had no doubt that they would have signed the contracts. Nobody wants to miss the big stage especially in India where the T20 players are treated like the superstars that they are.
