Surrey vs Somerset radio commentary
Surrey won the toss and batting 1st
Rampaul is an oldcar..
In reply to oldcar
Yep - Go Ravi!
he push himself too hard, he bruk down soon
Before getting excited about Ravi's exploit with the ball ,maybe you should bear in mind that the weather conditions in England is currently well short of what is suitable for batting. The only cricket they should be playing this time of year is indoor cricket.
In reply to cricketmad
and men scoring 400 a day?
In reply to doosra
You wont see that very often early season.
In reply to cricketmad
i've seen 400s and 350s with regularity over round 1 and round 2
In reply to cricketmad
Didn't Chesney Hughes mek 137* and 96 in one match?
The knock completed a great outing for Hughes who narrowly missed out on a century in the first innings when he was dismissed for 96 in Derbyshires 444 all out.

Awesome bowling by ravi.
In reply to cricketmad... so that West Indian batsman's (Chesney) performance then should also be looked at in this light?
In reply to Jabari18
I was surprised when the commentator said Trescothick was only 34 years old. He seems to have been around forever even playing in the days of Angus Frazer
Two more quick ones for Rampee

Get HPC up and running and get back A team tours on track.
Steps to right what's wrong on the field.
Surprising my ass Mr. George Dobell.
In reply to Jabari18
Ravi has always been a wicket taker. He is not a work horse - you have to manage him properly.
I would pick him in the test team. He has those shin splint problem and of course weight issues. But if he has a captain who knows how to utilize him, he could be a good test player.
If he has a good County season (currently 8 wickets in the 1st match and 5 in this one - good start so far) the selectors might look at him.
In reply to Andy99
Good on yer boss.
In reply to granite
You could say Matt 'Dunn' career is 'Done' once Ravi is fit and at Surrey.
In reply to Acid
If he has a good County season (currently 8 wickets in the 1st match and 5 in this one - good start so far) the selectors might look at him.
Which selectors?
The English ones?
Ravi could take 1 million wickets in Ingerland
This is all that matters...
Did he play the PCL?? Thats all that matters re selection...he aint committed!!!
Read this fellas!

come on Otis, rope in your boy...too late for that but some years ago, you never know.
Both Sarwan and Gabriel had great county seasons as precursors to being either out of the game entirely or getting injured.
Rampaul issue has never been talent but chronic lack of fitness mixed in with indiscipline.
Fix that and he has a chance.
Doesn't ? He might have a nice county career and all the bangers and mash he can eat.
In reply to Commie
typical of many East Indians. heavy on the alco and foods. He can find a way back. I don't drink but stopped the heavy food consumption due to factors.
Good bowling so far.
In reply to oldcar
I wouldn't stereotype because Shiv Chanderpaul was a model of fitness for many years and look just recently at how Kemar Roach fell away because of his own fitness issues.
The answer in my opinion has been an aversion to being professional unless the contracting party is foreign.
Its not even about money but this mythical respect thing which somehow masks a deep complex that Caribbean people often have about working for each other.
Its a theory I have and its often manifested in watching the same people double their output when working for unfamiliar people who are doing nothing special.
However a return into the real world always awaits.
In reply to oldcar
WTF dude?
this is what cricinfo writer says

more
looks like he's into his work there
In reply to doosra
Ravi was always a thinking bowler. It was just a fitness thing.
In reply to CricketLuva4... thinking yes, now he seems to be able to do things others cannot.
Bring back RR NOW!
In reply to imusic
I am also East Indian dude. talking frm experience.
Captain Batty is ah real Batty, team playing fuh d draw.
Declared now giving Somerset 292 to win off 40 overs
Currently from this match: Surrey 8 points, Somerset 7 points
.

.
Ravi opening the bowling
Ravi strikes in his first over!
0/1
In reply to Acid
Back to the old ways. Striking early
Batty really playing fuh d draw wickets needed and he bowling his 11th without taking a wicket out of 31 overs.
In reply to Andy99
It was poor captaincy. Not sure why he batted so long and set a target that was impossible to entice Somerset.
292 in 40 overs meant Somerset was going for batting practice
Looks like Rampaul get dropped for the 3rd round match vs Durham
In reply to Acid
Interesting... he was tied for the most wickets in the division.. is it that he was rested/injured?
In reply to BenGman
While being rested is an idea, he has only played 2 matches so far and Surrey had a bye in the 2nd round.
Looks like he is fit as he was named in the squad and is one of the players on the bench
Mark Footitt is out with a thigh strain, forced to undergo an MRI scan following an injury he picked up last time out. Hes expected to be replaced by Mark Dunn in Surreys only change.
Surrey squad: Gareth Batty (captain), Zafar Ansari, Rory Burns, Tom Curran, Steven Davies, Matthew Dunn, Ben Foakes (wicketkeeper), Arun Harinath, Mathew Pillans, Ravi Rampaul, Jason Roy, Kumar Sangakkara, Gary Wilson
probably being managed? or he injured?
In reply to doosra
Allyuh want Ravi to tear something ?
Let the man have some pies and sausages and chill.
In reply to BenGman
Saw this today, Rampaul is injured, according to the match report after day 1.
No details yet on the nature of the injury.
In reply to Acid
Thanks for the update.
Ah well.
Fidel and now Ravi. This was always the issue when they played for WI. Could not stay healthy for any length of time.
Give them credit though, at least they were able to give it a run in county cricket. Sarwan still cant get up out the blocks.

Rampaul back in the team today

scorecard
In reply to carl0002
Fast bowlers are prone to injury.. Roach and Taylor are the same. Still they are the better than the fir Darren Powell or best or Sammy with the ball.
You need bowlers who can take wickets and not fit bowlers who play all tests but can't buy a wicket
In reply to Jabari18
As we always called him, the best New ball bowler in WI
Yorkies 54/3
Rampee has 2/27 so far
Lyth and Balance, both Intls
In reply to doosra
Too bad Ravi no longer available for West Indies cricket. Waste a time administrators
In reply to Pacy
You need bowlers who can take wickets and not fit bowlers who play all tests but can't buy a wicket
Whats the point you are making?
Cuz a bowler who not fit to play or break down in the middle of a game or not available due to fitness or injury still cant take a wicket. So in the end if you are a wicket machine and cant stay fit, you make even less contribution to the team than the guy who can stay fit and make an effort.
Surrey bowlers taken to the cleaners by Root and Bairstow. Rampaul spared a tough
that yorkshire side is an england side
In reply to carl0002
All this whining about Ravi.
A constantly unfit bowler who NEVER took a fiver in his career in tests and was rightly a OD fixture (after all he played 92 matches) again when fit.
Ravi quite frankly should be happy he has that lifeline, like Sarwan got with Leics. At least he will feel more committed to stay in shape.
In reply to Commie
Constantly unfit? He couldn't be so unfit and still one of Otis favourites
In reply to Jabari18
He was. He travelled with the team even when he was unfit. Otis loved Ravis intelligence. He couldn't fix Ravis dietary habits and what Ravi does when he leaves the team.
In county cricket hopefully being with the same setup for much longer will help him.
In reply to Commie
You know genetics also plays a part in someone's physical look.
In reply to Commie
I don't know why some people find the need to set this up as Ravi being hard done by the WICB.
Now dat Tino tek a fiver ah hope allyu Tits sing de same song about de selectors - bout how dey stupidee
In reply to Maispwi
Tino 5 today and an ass for the next 5 matches,Tino will be massacred by any test playing country at the moment,Rampaul on the other hand is a class or 2 above him, quiet dong bout Trinis.
In reply to Commie
You are an Honourary Tit dese days? De real ones quiet as ever. Like de twins put you up to dis?
In reply to Commie
In reply to carl0002
The thing is though you fittaz na make a impact ever ... the fitless one can even for a burst.
In reply to granite... he think is just now we seeing them two bowlers.
Where as it is a surprise to me when Best takes 5 it is not when RR does it.
If RR was half as fit as Tino Best he would be the best bowler in the world.
In reply to natty_forever
R Rampaul 32.2 0 153 4 4.73 117
32 overs bowled so far...demonstrate some level of fitness to do so...keep this up and he should be fitter than Tino
In reply to 90mph
Ooops..there goes the fitness theory...he is going for plenty in these games though, not enough assistance from the other end?
For those not aware I think Commie was being a cynic there

In reply to Commie
mash potato doh build muscle
In reply to doosra
Its interesting how the truth outs itself without prompting. It did with Sarwan and now it is with Rampaul.
The victim approach can only work for so long.
In reply to Commie
Amazing.
Hamstring injury - might be out for a while
Surrey sweating on Rampaul fitness after hamstring injury
LONDON, CMC West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul limped out of Surreys County Championship contest with Middlesex on the opening day on Sunday, raising fears over his availability and adding to the clubs injury crisis.
The right-armer was on the verge of completing his 11th over the 39th of the day when he pulled up with what was later determined to be a hamstring strain and never returned to the field.
Definitely out for the match against Lancashire starting today
