Before getting excited about Ravi's exploit with the ball ,maybe you should bear in mind that the weather conditions in England is currently well short of what is suitable for batting. The only cricket they should be playing this time of year is indoor cricket.

Didn't Chesney Hughes mek 137* and 96 in one match?

The 25-year finished on an unbeaten 137 as the visitors closed on 260 for two at County Ground – an overall lead of 141 runs – before the game was called off.

The knock completed a great outing for Hughes who narrowly missed out on a century in the first innings when he was dismissed for 96 in Derbyshire’s 444 all out.

Having not played a first-class game since March 2013, he was a somewhat surprising selection ahead of the home-grown Matt Dunn in the Surrey side.

Surprising my ass Mr. George Dobell.

Acid 2016-04-26 12:25:49

Would you pick Ravi in the test team?

Ravi has always been a wicket taker. He is not a work horse - you have to manage him properly.

I would pick him in the test team. He has those shin splint problem and of course weight issues. But if he has a captain who knows how to utilize him, he could be a good test player.

If he has a good County season (currently 8 wickets in the 1st match and 5 in this one - good start so far) the selectors might look at him.

The English ones?

Ravi could take 1 million wickets in Ingerland

Match figures of 8 for 150 against Nottinghamshire, including 5 for 93 in the first innings, brought Rampaul some vindication. Here, he got the ball to move late and jump up off a length - no other seamer had managed either on this docile pitch.

oldcar 2016-04-26 18:40:39

come on Otis, rope in your boy...too late for that but some years ago, you never know.

Commie 2016-04-26 18:45:29

Both Sarwan and Gabriel had great county seasons as precursors to being either out of the game entirely or getting injured.

Rampaul issue has never been talent but chronic lack of fitness mixed in with indiscipline.

Fix that and he has a chance.

Doesn't ? He might have a nice county career and all the bangers and mash he can eat.

Commie 2016-04-26 18:58:55

In reply to oldcar

I wouldn't stereotype because Shiv Chanderpaul was a model of fitness for many years and look just recently at how Kemar Roach fell away because of his own fitness issues.

The answer in my opinion has been an aversion to being professional unless the contracting party is foreign.

Its not even about money but this mythical respect thing which somehow masks a deep complex that Caribbean people often have about working for each other.

Its a theory I have and its often manifested in watching the same people double their output when working for unfamiliar people who are doing nothing special.

However a return into the real world always awaits.

more

After getting Rogers to play on to his off stump, he got one to climb on Hildreth, who gloved down the leg side where Ben Foakes took a brilliant diving catch. The wicket of Trego was perhaps the most impressive: the ball drawing the right-hander forward, before getting big on him. Unable to pull out of the shot, Trego continued on and the edge of his bat was found.

It was poor captaincy. Not sure why he batted so long and set a target that was impossible to entice Somerset.

292 in 40 overs meant Somerset was going for batting practice

While being rested is an idea, he has only played 2 matches so far and Surrey had a bye in the 2nd round.

Looks like he is fit as he was named in the squad and is one of the players on the bench

Team News

Mark Footitt is out with a thigh strain, forced to undergo an MRI scan following an injury he picked up last time out. He’s expected to be replaced by Mark Dunn in Surrey’s only change.

Surrey squad: Gareth Batty (captain), Zafar Ansari, Rory Burns, Tom Curran, Steven Davies, Matthew Dunn, Ben Foakes (wicketkeeper), Arun Harinath, Mathew Pillans, Ravi Rampaul, Jason Roy, Kumar Sangakkara, Gary Wilson

Saw this today, Rampaul is injured, according to the match report after day 1.

One consolation for Durham is that they should also be able to make a good total against a depleted attack. With West Indian Ravi Rampaul joining Mark Footitt on the casualty list, Surrey have brought in South African Mat Pillans for his debut, along with former England Under 19 bowler Matthew Dunn.

No details yet on the nature of the injury.

Whats the point you are making?

Cuz a bowler who not fit to play or break down in the middle of a game or not available due to fitness or injury still cant take a wicket. So in the end if you are a wicket machine and cant stay fit, you make even less contribution to the team than the guy who can stay fit and make an effort.

Commie 2016-05-09 10:27:56

In reply to carl0002

All this whining about Ravi.

A constantly unfit bowler who NEVER took a fiver in his career in tests and was rightly a OD fixture (after all he played 92 matches) again when fit.

Ravi quite frankly should be happy he has that lifeline, like Sarwan got with Leics. At least he will feel more committed to stay in shape.

Jabari18 2016-05-09 10:31:21

Constantly unfit? He couldn't be so unfit and still one of Otis favourites

Commie 2016-05-09 10:48:05

He was. He travelled with the team even when he was unfit. Otis loved Ravis intelligence. He couldn't fix Ravis dietary habits and what Ravi does when he leaves the team.

In county cricket hopefully being with the same setup for much longer will help him.

Hamstring injury - might be out for a while

Surrey sweating on Rampaul fitness after hamstring injury

LONDON, CMC – West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul limped out of Surrey’s County Championship contest with Middlesex on the opening day on Sunday, raising fears over his availability and adding to the club’s injury crisis.

The right-armer was on the verge of completing his 11th over – the 39th of the day – when he pulled up with what was later determined to be a hamstring strain and never returned to the field.

Definitely out for the match against Lancashire starting today
