I am on good authority that its a "bat" injury.

He sustained it in the boatyard in the company of Tino.

Again another WI susceptible to the swinging ball as swinging balls has impeded his footwork, hand-eye coordination and induce fatigued.

Remember how you said JahJah has an uncanny sense of when a Jamaican is being mentioned in a thread?

You get where I am going with this...

Devin 2016-05-05 08:54:59

Didn't Gayle go through a stretch of two years where he was averaging 25 in ODI'S?

Gayle is definitely a huge overachiever. When you look at him bat it's actually hard to believe that he ever scored runs at any level in any format.

natty_forever 2016-05-05 08:55:25

In reply to Devin... hence my respect. wish we could find one or two more.

Better that than be an underachiever.

Devin 2016-05-05 09:02:57

In reply to nick2020

True. But he's still a bum who rarely showed up when it mattered. A very poor player under pressure. Extremely poor actually.

nick2020 2016-05-05 09:32:13

In reply to Devin

Well he has exceeded expectations as he was never supposed to be a player who could score a double furthermore a triple century.
I think that is commendable considering he could be a player who is seen as the greatest ever batsman yet cannot even muster a double.

I just saw this video that the CPL took of Gayle partying and 'joking' with women at his house way back in 2014. His baby mother/significant other is there as well.

The video and Chris Gayle's behaviour WAS CPL ENDORSED if the CPL felt it was GOOD to put the video on their official CPL Youtube channel, AND they have not taken it down even in light of the Big Bash controversy. Was Chris Gayle's behaviour in this video concerning the women 'in poor taste'? I do not think so. The difference between this and the Mel interview was that the location was in Gayle's home vs during a game. Even so Gayle gave an apology if his interview offended anyone and I do not believe he has to do more.

CPL was/is Chris Gayle's employer.. just like the Big Bash League. If Gayle no longer plays in the BBL then it could be said he is old/injury prone/out of form and not because of censure. I wish Gayle's form was better this IPL so that we really could see if Gayle plays in the BBL.

This is not meant to be offensive but do you wear a swim suit to the office?

In reply to nick2020

nick2020 I'll PM that answer wink

But I would love a full time job that allows me to wear a swim suit (or rash guards) most of the day... it still may be possible!

Having said that, if sex appeal is not part of cricket, then why are there paid models in swimming pools, dancers and cheerleaders at cricket matches?

There are not only female models, but muscular male models in skimpy carnival outfits, shirtless 'hunks' firebreathing, acrobatics, moko jumbies, etc. What is the purpose of all the above grouped together/individually? Why not promote/market products in another way?

Cricket is the business of entertainment, and these days a huge percentage of entertainment marketing is sex.

Double standards.

Is it only for off the field and not on?

Many people see the sex appeal as marketed on the field too. E.g. DreRuss' athletic prowess on display yesterday, and his roars and beating his chest (but how the media keep playing over and over and over).

OO.. cricket is a "gentleman's game" and not the WWE... rolleyes I guess thats why the CPL (where this behaviour is tolerated/promoted) is rather played at night rolleyes

nick2020 2016-05-05 18:56:49

In reply to BenGman

Well here is where I am going with this.

Chris Gayle was interviewed in the field of play when he made his inappropriate comment towards the reporter. I watched half of the youtube video you posted and the setting and context is entirely different. Mind you I still thought the segment was silly so I only got thru half but context is everything.

So wearing a swim suit is appropriate for the beach but not for the office. Unless you are a lifeguard.

On a side note I am as ugly as Gayle and Jay-Z. Think I can make any babies blush without a comparable net worth?

BenGman 2016-05-05 19:17:53

In reply to nick2020

Anyone, rich or poor can make anyone blush. There was an article in the past that said men with holes in the socks are most likely better lovers...a whole other convo there.

In response to your question on wearing a swimsuit not appropriate for the corporate office, I then ask what does Gayle's off field activity have to do with cricket? Why did the CPL then put his off the field life on their official Youtube channel? Because Gayle's off the field lifestyle is PART OF THE PACKAGE that the CPL WANTS TO SELL, the biggest party in sport!

His life off the field, then is validated by his employer, the CPL. Now when Gayle brings his 'off the field' lifestyle to the BBL, he is shot down, whether you agree or not with Gayle's 'lifestyle', thats a very difficult position to be in. Based on the CPL video, you know he is 'joking' because his significant other is there when he flirts with the other women, its not disrespectful (or at least Gayle, and his significant other, and people around him don't think so, else he would have cared enough to stop that behaviour and he might have split ways with his partner by now).

At least Gayle knows where the boundary is now, if he does make it back to the BBL.

BenGman 2016-05-05 19:34:32

There is more that could be said with the marketing of sports, cricket, IPL, etc.

Why all the videos on the 'official' team channels of players partying, dancing, singing, etc? What has that got to do with cricket? Why are these 20 questions interviews with questions nothing related to cricket on official websites? There are gossip sites and then there are official sites. Sports these days its not only about selling what a player does on the field, but what he does off it as well.

I was amazed a couple of years ago when I saw the indepth scouting teams do for the NFL and all the 'morality' type clauses that abound. But as I said above, Gayle's employer, the CPL promoted his lifestyle, and the Caribbean party atmosphere overall, thats why they have the slogan the biggest party in sport.

nick2020 2016-05-05 22:15:35

In reply to BenGman

Him bringing his off the field lifestyle on any field is a problem.

The only double standard is you as a woman can hit on Gayle and it be okay but Gayle hitting on you is a problem.

Namath wanted to kiss Suzy

He got crucified. And he apologized. He said he was drunk and apologized for his behavior. Gayle's apology was quite contrived and that did not help.

The NFL is crazy tho. Bryant was asked if his mother is a prostitute. Apple was asked if he likes men. They look for flags like it is Trini carnival.
