West Indies womens cricketers will see an increase in in salary after the regional board on Tuesday signed a new four year deal with long time sponsors Digicel.
This follows an outcry by regional womens cricketers including the hard-hitting Deandra Dottin over the disparity in pay compared to their male counterparts.
Cricket BallThe President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Whycliffe Dave Cameron made the announcement at a Rotary Club luncheon on Tuesday in Kingston, after the board signed a new 4-year-deal with Digicel.
The new deal is a fifty percent uptake on our last sponsorship deal through to 2018/2019 and for the first time, this deal includes our Under-19 team and ladies team, said the WICB boss.
Cameron underscored the point that the womens team will be sponsored for the first time.
He also confirmed that Jamaica would host the second of four test matches against India starting July 29.

Glad that the ladies will get a raise in pay, it's been long overdue, because they have really been extremely consistent over the past 3-4 years.
they kept climbing the ladder and performing well enough to be in the top 4 across the available formats.
