LBW375 2016-07-24 16:54:04

Carlos sgould bat at 6

Chandreka is not test material

XI need someone with more pace but Holder is holding down a spot he doesnt deserve

XI

3. Bravo
4. Samuels
5. Hope
6. Carlos

Holder needs a yard more of pace, his medium mamby pamby aint working. Who else is there ? Beaton look beaten, ??

Cummings needs a run. Need to see what he has

Scar 2016-07-24 16:56:56

JOJO 2016-07-24 17:14:33

Put Hope to open, play Carlos at 6 and Dowrich as a specialist bat at 5. Then bring back Ramdin as the specialist keeper at 7. The selectors will not do that but I think it was a mistake to drop him.

Too bad Taylor retired as he usually does very well at Sabina

Harsh (because it's harsh to drop a player after 1 match) but one change...assuming Sabina is a bit more bowler friendly

Cummins for Chase

jen 2016-07-25 20:31:46

In reply to imusic

Taylor is as good as they get at bina. Always bagging fifers there. Big loss indeed.

Agree harsh to drop players after one game. Majority of these players will start to play well from the 3rd test. Problem is our players have to learn on the big stage. However, Blackwood has looked rusty lately, a drop to shake him up would do well. I don't think Chandrika is test match ready but the opening cupboard real bare...

I do not understand why Joseph is being pushed so quickly!!! I agree that he has potential but I am sure there is need for further development through channels such as the regional tourney as well as B and A teams. Why the rush? He gets thrown in at the deep end, gets taken for runs and then gets discarded with his confidence shattered. We are using the same method adopted by the West Indies selectors and then we turn around and curse then when they use they discard policy with our young players.

True. However, against this Indian batting lineup, we need at least four specialist as well as a stock bowler, the give the option as five bowlers. If we don't , then our bowlers become overworked and tired risking injuries. The other reason is our bowlers and batsmen are NOT disciplined as the Indians, so hence I believe at least four specialist and one stock bowler will have a more realistic opportunity in restricting the Indian batting. This however, will help the mind set of our batsmen of not having to overcome unreal totals.

Most WI wickets assist spin the later part of a test match, I would like to see another spin bowler in the eleven with Bishoo preferably an off spinner to balance the attack (Conwall (bowl & bat) or Narine.

The batting I would like to see Johnson in at no 3 and Bravo whom I'm very disappointed in and critical of because of his poor technique and flaws in at 4 and I'm not sure of that no 6 spot. Either we play a specialist batsman who have been underperforming anyways or use Carlos as a batsman who can bowl and Holder as the stock bowler who could bat.

So here are my two options:
1). K.B.
2). Chandrika.
3). Johnson.
4). Bravo.
5). Samuels.
6). Dowrich.
7). Carlos. / Holder
cool. Holder. / Conwall / Narine
9). Bishoo. / Bishoo
10) Cummings. / Cummings
11) Gabriel. / Gabriel

The other issue is the Holder and the captaincy. He is clearly very immature as a student on his own personal game, far less as a captain.

Your team looks like the team I expect them to play in the next test, I think Chase will retain his place and B/wood would lose his, Chandrika would need to do better as he has had many chances to at least make a fifty.

Pacy 2016-07-26 16:34:53

In reply to yardman83

WI does not play enough A team tours to get exposure. With fast bowling if you have the potentiL and skill no harm pushing him. It is not as if there are 100's quicks lining up and are ignored in pushing Joseph.

There are no good quicks in Caribbean and you can't wait year after year losing talent. All those bowlers with potential bess, Dawes, Deleon, Richards have not improved ( many have actually gone missing) in our regional cricket. No point expecting the regional cricket to teach the quicks a lot. I would say look at Rabada

Logic 2016-07-27 09:27:14

I can't help but be amused by the proposals of some of you people. The vast majority of the posts are calling for Chase to be dropped after playing his first test match. You would have to have the attention span of a fly to want to take that approach to team selection. Chase was selected not only because he has scored heavily in regional cricket but because he is a tidy offspinner with potential to improve - a backup that is sorely missed with Samuels not able to bowl, and one that is critical if the best is to be derived from the legspinner Bishoo. The guy was the most economical bowler, and delivered a marathon 34 overs in the first innings. He was wicketless in that innings, but for that matter, so was Ashwin.

That said, he is there for his batting primarily, and in this regard I would have to assume that those calling for his axe did not see his performance in the first innings. In my view he looked the most comfortable of the batters up to that point, against the swing and spin of the Indian bowlers, before mistiming a pull shot to be out for 23. 23 is not good enough to assure a long term future but unless the selectors are themselves flies, I would be shocked if it disqualifies him from second test selection.

Bravo should come at #4 and Marlon at #3. This should also be Bravo's last call to come good - somebody has to let him know that failing especially on home turf is unexceptable. Perform against top teams or take the door and retool.

Logic 2016-07-27 09:42:19

KB more than fulfills that role. If Chase wants to make the side, he needs to do so primarily as a specialist batsmen. We have too many pseudo-all rounders in the side already (Holder,CB, KB). Having said that, I agree that it's short-sighted to drop a debutant after one Test, unless he was only filling in for a returning injured player.

seaegg99 2016-07-27 11:36:15

My thoughts exactly. Chase looked better than all of them other than KB in the first innings. I would rather Johnson in for Chandrika and a fast bowler in for Blackwood.

imusic 2016-07-27 11:53:51

I would rather Johnson in for Chandrika

The selectors are clearly investing in Chandrika as a test opener. He battled hard in the second innings for his 30 odd. You going to drop him to bring in yet another unproven player? And worse yet...a stop gap opener?

When you investing....you got to be patient. Otherwise you just glory hunting.

Bravo opens as any 3 MUST do at some point anyway and I want a Left/ Right Combo! I also want Singh /Johnson as another Leftie to create trouble for the Indian bowlers. Send Bishoo for same reason as needed.
Chandrika has proven nothing and Blackwood has not proved he is a Test batsman. cool

yardman83 2016-07-27 17:48:20

In reply to Pacy

I don't know if I agree pacy. The rabada example might not be the best when comparing Joseph, in my opinion. At least the South African state system must be better than the West Indian one. What happens is that the WI pacers are found wanting at the highest level. I am not seeing our bowlers with any 'skill' that can help them in different conditions. I doubt raw pace will be enough. So we stand a greater chance of losing a young prospect because of lack of planning by administrator.

imusic 2016-07-27 17:54:05

Regional pitches are one of 2 major reasons why our fast bowling in particular has declined so significantly over the years.

I think they can work on his fitness but he has some talent. He is naturally aggressive and has height which will cause disconcerting bounce for batsmen. He is definitely showing that he is hungry lol (couldn't help it). He did well with bat and ball last regional season. I would definitely play him in any President's XI against teams touring the Caribbean as well as on any WI A or B teams. He has shown a willingness to learn and apply himself.

It isn't enough but the selectors like it that way.

They like raw pace with no experience pace bowlers like Kemar or Taylor to give him a little pointer or two on when and how to use the pace properly.

Now Gabriel will have to give Cummins and Joseph what pointers Sammy and Tino Best passed down to him. This piece is or going to be a good laugh... lol lol lol

Outswinger 2016-07-29 10:50:50

I like your team and batting order very much. It's an innovative approach, but has merit.

Carlos opened in top division club cricket for a long time so the position is not new to him.

Johnson proved in SA that he has some ability, and his leg spin is not that bad either.

The additional fire-power with Joseph and Cummins is sorely needed and this also takes a bit of pressure off Gabriel. This bowling unit will give India more headaches than the diet of spin and medium pace that they were fed in the 1st test.

We to try something different and this is as good an any I can imagine.

My preference for the starting eleven in batting order for tomorrow follows (we go in to win & take 20 wickets; not just compete and therefore, need to take big risks. Groundsmen, please give us enough pace and bounce for Sabina, and I know the Indian pacers will also give hell to us)

1. KB
2. Johnson
3. Bravo
4. Samuels
5. Dowrich
6. Holder (playing firstly as a batsman)
7. Carlos Brathwaite
