Having both on the current West Indies side is to the detriment of the team. However Jason is capo an he must play. Bathwaite probably warrants his place on the team more than Holder at this point.
Both are too similar, it's like a football team playing two defensive midfielders in atacking midfielders position. For ballance one has to go.

Holder and Bathwaite conundrum
In reply to Real-cricket
You may have meant conundrum...but it has the "conu", so no problem.
They are more reliable bats that some in the top order though. Can they both be played as batsmen and get some wicket takers in the side?

Where are we going to buy them from?

Reminiscent of Bravo and Sammy. In my view for either on of them to be a permanent in the team batting has to be their strong suit at their respective bowling skill. One is picked and another genuine bowler brought in. given the other matches- a pacer.
In fact for the next game I would bring in another young pacer as ask Holder to contribute more with the bat.
It would be a good idea to keep both in the team for now as they are consistent with the bat than the labeled batsmen. I would add Cummins to the team for the next Test and leave out B/wood.

I am not in favour of leaving out a specialist batsman but a solution is needed

Whats so special about Blackwood these days. Specialist batsman my rass.
In reply to Scar
Where did I say Blackwood is special?
Anyway we need a batsman who is not preoccupied with running in to bowl 15 to 20 overs a day. Brathwaite and Holder do not fit that criteria

Have you gotten over your orgasms for Sunil Narine?
Blackwood and Chandrika out for Cummins and Johnson...we should really try Jason Holder as an opening Bat
Holder
Brathwaite
Samuels
Johnson
Bravo
Chase
Dowrich
Brathwaite
Bishoo
Cummings
Gabriel
At the end of the day..we're just not good enough, the batsmen being omitted aren't class, same for the bowlers...these are prolly the best available XI, apart from Singh and Al Jo, not much else available, and those won't be match winners on debut.

Can you give a logical reason to open with Holder?
You are comparing International cricket, to something you played in your back yard.
In reply to openning
No quality opener available is all.
His technique looks no worse than the other options
And since he needs to be accommodated as captain, and Chandrika doesnt have to be, let him open, that also allows Cummins to play without removing any of the bowling options from the 1st test..
In reply to DIEHARD
You do that stuff in village or gully cricket

He/she probably meant balance as well. But he/she has that English batsman on his mind.

The 1 most recent match. That is an irrefutably large sample size.
