Ajai Dev Khan is the best Indian actor, love his comedy roles
In reply to steveo
Thank you. It's funny how people are labelled based on their career choice.
black will probably bow down to a proctologist and address him as Dr. So and So although he has one of the most disgusting job....
In reply to steveo
Ajai Dev Khan?
In reply to Kay
Have you seen some of the titles of those movies?
Sluts in heat, Cougar sluts, slutty cheating wives, etc.
In reply to steveo, In reply to ray
Ajay Devgan, that man dry bad.
For me, the best actors out of Bollywood are:
Amitabh Bachchan, Irfan Khan, Naseruddin Shah, Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Female: Vidya Balan
In reply to Devin
What do you mean "dry"?
In reply to steveo
Personality wise and in terms of comedy.
In reply to Devin
Irfan and Naseruddin are good
In reply to Devin
Personality wise and in terms of comedy.
I find Ajai Devgan the most comfortable in his skin, most of the other Indian actors go a bit too overboard for me; anyway seems like you only like pretty boys
Clint Eastwood n Sophia Loren!
In reply to BeatDball
Clint never won an award for acting, he won as director.
The best contemporary actor for me is Russel Crowe. That man is boss.
In reply to black
Do you mean Oscar? Coz Clint has won an acting award already.
You don't need to win an Oscar award to be considered a great actor. Peter Toole didn't win an acting Oscar.
In reply to steveo
Dramatic actor maybe and I'd still say no way. He doesn't have the versatility to do comedy, or example.
In reply to JahJah
Yes, Oscar.
Razzies, maybe.
In reply to JahJah
Comedy is not really about the acting, we are talking drama here. Who is your pick for best contemporary actor?
In reply to black
Robert De Niro
Tie between Melissa McBride and Angela Bassett
In reply to Oilah
Donald Trump cannot touch Bill Clinton when it comes to Political theater. Bubba Clinton was the greatest of all time at the fine art of faking sincerity
Plenty male in good roles but they often take typecast roles...this holds true for De Niro, Washington, Pacino....
So....in terms of versatile and NEVER disappointing:
Tom Wilkinson, Daniel Day Lewis and Tom Hardy have to be the best I've seen....
Ladies is clear:
Meryl Streep
In reply to DAVE400
None of the dudes you mentioned are 'actually' versatile, with the exception of perhaps Tom Hardy. Daniel Day Lewis is tops when it comes to drama but he won't dare do anything else.
These men have nothing left to prove. They are now dialing it in and raking in cash.
In reply to steveo
Comedy is not really about acting? How did you work this out? You must be thinking of Jerry Lewis comedy. There is a reason why Russell Crowe won't attempt even 'cerebral' comedy, and that's because he won't be seen as genuine.
And I had no idea we were talking about drama only. I thought we talking about 'acting'...performing....
I have healthy respect for the ones who can do both plays and film/tv expertly; who can do drama and have some sort of comedic timing.
In reply to JahJah
In some cases, comedy is harder but People tend to not take it seriously.
In reply to JahJah
And I had no idea we were talking about drama only. I thought we talking about 'acting'...performing..
There is a reason why Comedy and drama have their own categories in most award shows, when I think about acting, I think about dramatic acting, not slapstick; thats me though.
Many people like watching the same actor playing himself in various roles; for example De Niro, he is the same guy in all of his movies, regardless of the character.
I dont find that great acting. I would say acting is bringing the character alive, not being yourself in various roles.
Russel crowe is the most malleable actor, in any role. For instance the russel crowe in Insider, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderalla Man, Gladiator is distinctly different, you experience the character not the actor.
In reply to steveo
Most award shows? Golden Globes and how many others? And I did realise that you think comedy means slapstick. Are Woody Allen films slapstick, for the most part?
That's just Russell being the same ole brooding Russell in all except A Beautiful mind. That's the only film he didn't really seem like Russell Crowe...at the same time he did. And what was that Les Miserables about? Not a good look at all. The person you are trying to describe is Daniel Day Lewis. Not Russell Crowe.
I guess he has different versions of himself then, because he was quite different in Raging Bull, than he was in King of Comedy, Jackie Brown, A Bronx Tale and Awakenings etc etc
You don't find what DeNiro does to be great acting? Interesting...
In reply to JahJah
Did you see Cinderalla Man?
You don't find what DeNiro does to be great acting? Interesting...
I have not seen all of the De Niro movies you listed , its possible he has played the character sublimely in those movies. I have seen great De Niro movies like the God Father 2, Heat, Ronin, which were great, he is great to watch, but I still know I am watchin De Niro.
Lets not focus on DeNiro specifically. I am speaking about the method used to judge great actors. I am speaking how certain actors bring to life a character while others more or less carry the same persona in all their movies. For the CONTEMPORARY movies I have seen, Russell Crowe does this the best.
Bill and Hilary Clinton
