I am overjoyed about choosing Joseph in this squad. In fact, I am hoping he will make it to the final eleven.

Khaga 2016-07-27 14:32:21

I guess we can expect pace and bounce @ Sabina..Bring it on!

Both Holder and Carlos Brathwaite would have sit for Joseph to play.

The Bajan quota already realized, we've got to spread the love around.

imusic 2016-07-27 14:56:52

Good that Joseph is in the squad. The exposure to the West Indies team environment and just being around the squad and experiencing what it's like to be in that environment will be invaluable

HOWEVER

Unless BOTH Gabriel and Cummins are injured and unable to play, I would be shocked if he was selected to the starting XI.

It's was only a matter of time before they hit the panic switch. Looking for quick fix to long term problems Must be an island thing

In reply to silver... don't.

In reply to bobby

No.
Both Chandrika and Blackwood should sit and have the two all-rounders play as batsmen with the ability to bowl.
My team would look like this:

Brathwaite K
Bravo
Samuels
Chase
Dowrich
Brathwaite C
Holder
Bishoo
Cummins
Gabriel
Joseph

Unconventional you say? Hell Trump is unconventional and he winning.
We have nothing to lose that we haven't already.

dayne 2016-07-27 16:17:25

Well it looks like a selection of desperation, but it could be that the selectors have no faith in Cummins, however, it is good to have Joseph around so he could be expose to the highest level of the game.

jacksprat 2016-07-27 16:20:05

"Winning" ?

Depends. He also went bankrupt 6 times and left a lot of others holding the bag!

Maispwi 2016-07-27 16:41:50

Dese selectors are clueless. Instead of giving de youngster some exposure at ODI level dey throw him into test cricket. Wat go happen if Gabriel n Cummings eh fit?

TheTrail 2016-07-27 18:07:47

When you have Gabriel as the senior strike bowler, something is definitely wrong with this setup.

Narper 2016-07-27 18:23:07

Al Jo must play

Let him loose

Let the games begin

the angel gun surprise u , he the leader of the new pact

NYCGURU 2016-07-27 19:25:29

In reply to TheTrail

Some people just seem to be having a hard time accepting the fact that the angel is a much improved bowler and is now the best we have at the moment.

Narper 2016-07-27 19:35:04

In reply to NYCGURU

My problem with Angel is his inability to bowl long spells...21 overs on five and a half sessions is not enough...I predicted this when de Angel struggled to complete 10 overs in the recent ODIs

The injun pacers bowled more than 21 overs in three and a half sessions

And I won't even comment on his batting

Experience in a losing environment is invaluable? Who will he learn from?

embsallie 2016-07-27 22:25:04

In reply to jacksprat

He is the Republican official presidential nominee, ain't he. That is winning from a field of 16 who were all more qualified than he.

It is about time the selectors try something off the cuff until we find something consistent that works. lol lol lol

He plays for Leewards. ANYTHING ELSE is an improved environment

embsallie 2016-07-27 22:30:16

In reply to silver

I know , I know.

Hell, what if they (selectors) tried that and it worked?
It may not have the standard structure of a test team but every now and then you have to try something in desperation. What do we have to lose? Hell only the second test which probably couldn't be worse than the First.
wink

amedatman 2016-07-27 22:42:14

In reply to embsallie

Hopefully, he is not bowled into the ground like the rest of our bowlers (whether spin or fast bowlers) over the past few years. Sigh. Hoping for a good pitch that offers some help to bowlers similar to the CPL matches at Sabina. rolleyes

Scar 2016-07-28 00:24:09

Joseph is now going to be learning around the team not playing. Bish and Viv called for that during the last Test and Bish again in the CPl

You are correct.

Chrissy 2016-07-28 08:34:19

In reply to Scar

I hope you are correct

mikesiva 2016-07-28 10:51:25

So, what's the possible XI?

I hope it's this....

1) Kraigg Brathwaite
2) Raj Chandrika/Leon Johnson
3) Darren Bravo
4) Marlon Samuels
5) Jermaine Blackwood/Roston Chase
6) Shane Dowrich
7) Jason Holder/Carlos Brathwaite
cool Dev Bishoo
9) Shannon Gabriel
10) Miguel Cummins
11) Alzarri Joseph

Only one of Blackwood or Chase should play. Only one of Holder or Carlos should play.

natty_forever 2016-07-28 11:10:40

In reply to mikesiva... should, but our selectors don't think like that.

analyst-kid 2016-07-28 11:46:07

Technicaly Carlos and Blackwood SHOULD be dropped but to drop a man who just scored 53+ in a side where the batting is failing is ridiculous.

granite 2016-07-28 11:57:56

Rampaul made his debut at about 19 for the Windies in a ODI,give Joseph a chance in the test, see how ting ah go.

natty_forever 2016-07-28 12:01:43

In reply to granite... why not ODIs then.

analyst-kid 2016-07-28 12:08:23

In reply to granite

BOTH Gabriel, Cummins and Joseph should be playing against the Indians.

Cummins with 33 wickets @ 20.69 in 10 matches in the four day tournament merits his play.

Based on the same stats Blackwood and Chandrika should not be there and Johnson and Hope definitely should be there.

Hope is not in the squad therefore Johnson for Blackwood can be the only change cuz I can't see Holder and Brathwaite being dropped after failing to get a wicket on a dead pitch. That was a pitch that WI SHOULD HAVE DRAWN ON.

Narper 2016-07-28 13:19:35

The injuns don't think it was a dead pitch

I have been asking about Cornwall for a while now,why is he not in the test team,it seems stupid.

cool

We have no alternative at the moment,it's time we start giving our best young players early test debut,Pakistan does it,we wait too long. You may be right about the ODIs,but we have nothing to lose by giving the boy an early intro.

mikelegend 2016-07-29 13:27:22

In reply to granite

Exactly. Pakistan religiously does it especially with their seamers. We just need to know how to manage their workload and make sure that their workouts and diets are well monitored. Nothing like harnessing that competitiveness, eagerness enthusiam and aggression of the youth. Get to them before they get steamrolled into the politics and other factors that clouds the regional tournaments.

imusic 2016-07-29 13:35:56

I guess Carlos is in Florida too

mikesiva 2016-07-30 10:39:11

Carlos must be wishing he was playing CPL cricket right now!

Maybe he is....

Is this proof that players see the CPL as more important than West Indies Test cricket?
