Fort Lauderdale, Florida – With two years left in the current Memorandum of Understanding/Collective Bargaining Agreement (MOU/CBA) with the West Indies Cricket Board, West Indies Players Association and players; the WICB took a proactive move to host a players’ symposium in Florida on Wednesday (August 24) to address some of the pressing issues.
Among the issues discussed openly were
· MOU/CBA – WICB, WIPA and players
· Future tours
· ICC events
· Finances of WICB and World Cricket
· Life during and after cricket
WICB President, Dave Cameron says “the ongoing dialogue aimed at finding amicable solutions is the main aim for us as an organisation and we are keen on confronting the issues facing us as we seek to enhance the overall cricket product. We will continue the dialogue. We will encourage players to voice their concerns through an appropriate medium. We will work together for a solution. We know the players are the most important features of our Brand and we wish to engage them as is necessary and required to be more competitive on and off the field.”
The meeting which at points became contentious, “was solution-oriented and the WICB continues to make efforts to facilitate the best environment for players,” the President noted.

If Dinas weren't there, then the whole exercise was a waste of time.

I saw pictures on Sportsmax with Ramdin, Sammy, Dwayne Bravo, Courtney Browne, Ato Bolden and Ganga plus the T20 players and a few other players such as Dowrich.

The meeting which at points became contentious,
A forum like this must be schedule at the right time- not when the team is days away from a series.
"Contentious" affects team preparation and will have a negative impact on player's performance.
But more importantly, the narrative must change- the time for WICB symposium is gone as the only discussion that must be had is for an orderly dissolution of the WICB.
WIPA either got caught or is complicit in participating at a time when the call is for dissolution, by giving credence to the symposium ,it allowed the WICB to set the narrative and give the impression it is about fixing WI cricket.

In an interesting incident, R Ashwin, who attended the press conference, asked Brathwaite a question about what he expected from the crowd as the action shifts to the United States of America following the four Tests in the Caribbean.

Contentious??? That word is not strong enough. Dave is running around trying to figure out how Wikileaks hacked the WICB's emails and Wavell would be well advised to hire a bodyguard for protection from the Universe Boss
And one more thing ... The troops are still solidly behind General Sammy

Try as they may, they can't convince anyone that they didn't learn anything from Don Hilaire. Recall that meeting (on the subject of Gayle) in Jamaica when Dinas resorted to (attempted) chair projection upon being antagonized by the Don?

Darren Sammy will soon play again for the West Indies.
I would only hope so since he is not retired.
He already had a decent CPL... a good season of NAGICO and he will be back up for selection like everyone else.

Thats interesting, I though the players did not have any respect for Sammy cuz he only can clap and he was unbalancing the team. My my, how times have changed.

West Indies' new T20 captain Carlos Brathwaite said a vote of confidence from his predecessor Darren Sammy and encouragement from the senior players made his transition into the role easier.
"I think a team like this will be pretty easy to lead, from the point of view that the dressing room is a fun place to be. I don't think it's a case where I have to negotiate too many egos," he said. "The guys enjoy each other's company. It's just a matter for me to go there, do the things that I can do, firstly as a player and then a captain, continue to mould the team that Darren has started to mould, efficiently.
"Again, the most important thing is getting victories for the West Indies. As a new leader, things might change bit by bit. It's just about adjusting and then for me to find ways for the team to continue to win.
"I don't want to get too deep into the psychology of changing leaders and stuff like that. I think all the guys are mature enough. We have had cases where some of the guys were captains, and then played the next series under a different captain. We are professionals, we all know what we have to go out there and do.
"It's a matter of, first, to go out there and win games for the West Indies and I hope that my leadership can influence that in some part. Even if it doesn't, if we win the games that will be the most important thing."

For the first time in a long time a WI captain talking about continuity. Simmons also said similar re the captaincy.
Even when Sammy took over his mantra was not about continuity from Gayle but forging a new path.

I suppose its fitting, he wont have to do anything to get back in the team and won't have to do anything while on the team. The best of both worlds.

Nothing wrong with that!
Kudos to him!!
He has an invaluable role to play and hopefully will now comfortably assume that new position.
I see they have belatedly formalized his role as non-playing captain, a la tennis. I applaud the move as a sign of
progress &
"going in another direction"!!
Now he can clap to his heart's desire -his special skill- from the safety of the pavilion, or the stands, while not depriving a better, more useful player, a chance to make a
tangible contribution to the team!

I am not fixated on the captaincy; I am more concerned about the composition of the team and the fairness of the selection process.
Captaincy of this West Indies T20 team is over-rated!
And anyway, it does take a genius to spin the toss, clap and applaud while seasoned professionals such as Gayle, Narine, Bravo, Russell, Samuels, et al, do the actual heavy lifting!
But, I digress. You missed the salient point:
....Not depriving a better, more useful player,e.g Pollard, the new addition, to the team, of a chance to make a tangible contribution to the team...!

No sympathy necessary.
Unemployed is a relative term though, but if you are happy that he is "unemployed," run yuh route nuh.
And next time yuh see Dave, ask him about Wikileaks

It seems that Cameron is getting Tips from Donald J Trumpf. I am reminded of
the adage " TALK IS CHEAP " .
People must remember that the WICBC
under various Presidents Commissioned
several Reports regarding its 89 years
old Structure , and then swiftly ignored the salient features of those
Reports .
This is simply one of Cameron's tactics to try getting the Regional
Governments to back off. I sincerely hope that the Regional Governments
are fully aware of the fact that this is simply another one of the WICBC's Charades .
