The Huge Gulf Between The WI T20 And Test Teams

Coach Simmons is of the opinion that being World T20 champions elevated the team's confidence, and went as far as to compare them to the great team of the 1980s. "In this context, I think it's a case where we are world champions and it's something we have made our own, similar to back in the '80s when we made Test cricket our own. We always had the team to beat in T20 cricket so from that point of view we've got a lot better and all the guys are loving playing it."

Now that is high praise for sure. Not many would go that far. But Brathwaite's side is undeniably a seriously formidable one.

Now, compare the West Indies' T20 team to the one it fields in cricket's longest format.

Defeated 2-0 by India in the recent four-match series at home, it was apparent to everyone watching that the hosts was completely outclassed by the visitors. Whereas Brathwaite leads a team of highly skilled and experienced players, the ones lined up behind his Barbadian brethren Jason Holder are mostly neophytes just wetting their feet in international cricket, many of them with less than stellar first-class records.

The gulf between the West Indies' T20I and Test sides is substantial. The Test team lacks the relative capacity of the T20I team. Consequently, it plays with nothing like the T20I side's confidence and swagger. Holder would probably not mind switching jobs with his Barbadian teammate. big grin

Likewise if you add 30 overs to this same T20 team the gulf is almost as wide as in test cricket.

That should provide a clue to the obvious.

In reply to carl0002... Any professional 50 overs league around? That is more obvious.

Interesting.

Interesting.

Indeed!
IPL was the catalyst of our T20 success

...just as it was with Packer and our test domination back in the day.

..in spite of them WICB parasites.

WI T20 team has experienced players who all can step up on any given day. Like Bravo in last match / Simmons in the WC.

But WI ODI and test teams do not discarded most of the experienced guys and they are bound to slip at times. That said ODI team is still stronger unless selectors completely mess up the selection like they did in the WC. Just recently we competed closely with SA and Aus 2 top teams in the Tri series tournament.

Many seem to have blithely ignored the fact that from its inception , the shortest version of the game was NEVER
under the jurisdiction of the Worst
International Cricket Board in the
Commonwealth , aka the WICBC .

Those in charge of this version of the game always ensured that their
Players were always competitive , via
Training & Coaching . Their Camps were meaningful & beneficial to the
Players .

It must be stated that this was in
very stark contrast to the WICBC ,
which concluded that having a 1 week
Camp is sufficient for our Players
in the International Cricket Arena ,
in the longer versions of the game .

Only the blind & those with mental
disabilities , are unaware of the fact that Test Cricket & ODI Matches
from their inception were under the jurisdiction of the Worst International Cricket Board in the Commonwealth , aka the WICBC .

The WICBC had an opportunity , to be
in control of the shortest format of the game , but it decided to to farm it out . This is precisely why in this version of the game our Players
are the best in the World .

In the longer versions of the game , which are controlled by the WICBC ,
the standards in the Region & Internationally are PISS POOR .

So why not play the T20 in tests since they can post 200 in 20 overs and the test team takes a whole day or 90 overs to do same or less?
Plus the test team gets bowled out in that period.
So maybe we should go back to "calypso cricket"
