In reply to Runs But, I saw him hit a six effortlessly! When I saw him a few years ago, I had said to myself that this chap is a good bat.

BeatDball 2016-08-31 07:49:16

So, other than kbraffit, wi bwoys aren't executing the proper techniques of batting!? N this bloke bavuma is impressive in this regard? I'll observe him sooner or later.

he seems to be a good solid player, too bookish for me, every aspect of his batting is from the manual. I prefer the old line of WI batting :Hunte, Kanhai, Weekes who created shots and made adjustment whether they "got to the pitch of the ball" or played a late , late shot.

but as you said before technically sound players will achieved.

Hunte, Kanhai, Weekes who created shots and made adjustment whether they "got to the pitch of the ball" or played a late , late shot.

And they all averaged over 45, in fact Weekes in the high 50's. The bookish and technically correct KB still lingering in the low 30's.

Maybe technique is overrated....

KB technique is pale to those 3, he is not to that standard.

The great WI players of the past did not play text book cricket all the time, but they had great technique which allow them to play 3 or 4 strokes to a ball.

In reply to tc1 It is almost unfair to compare the guys of old to the new guys. In the old days there was not computerized analysis to breakdown and review batsmen techniques to exploit their flaws. Also, the use of the seam on the ball was not as prevalent as it is today by both fast bowlers and spinners.

Based on your analysis, Bradman, Sobers et all are all hype?

No they were great in their time, but who knows what they would have been in these times. Remember in those times, there was a rest day in Test matches, physical fitness was not as intense as it is presently, therefore the level of intensity in matches was different.

There is commonality between players of era, for instance Lara played with Viv, Viv with Lloyd , Lloyd with Sobers, sobers with Weekes, Weekes with Headley and Headley with Bradman.

Therefore with a certain degree we can made a comparison of players from different era even with the physical fitness programs of today.

member that our fast bowling stock was just as fit as today players, I Have heard of Wes bowling from after lunch to the tea break.
