Philo say Marlon Samuels is on a joy ride.

Philo is shooting straight.

Philo says UAE calls for smart cricket.

Well Philo, we are already behind the 8 ball because we have headless cricketers.

As a former headless cricketer...Philo should know that it's one thing to stand on the sidelines and criticise...and quite another to go out and perform

I am not into blaming the messenger especially if he/she is constructive.

What I don't understand is that everyone calling for them to rotate strike and pick up ones and twos.

Yet....this team HAS ALWAYS SAID that they back themselves to play their game which is boundary hitting.

Sometimes it doesn't come off. Most of the time...it does...and it demoralizes the other team.

The team is playing as they've always played....but somehow the panelists are making a connection between the former captain and coach suggesting that the result would have been different had they been present.

Thing is...the team hasn't changed the way they play. It didn't work out this time. Missing Gayle and Russell is a blow but is not like they don't have others in the lineup to perform.

I'm not blaming Philo.

Philo is blaming the players and I'm saying he should know....especially as he wasn't exactly the epitome of smart, heady cricket when he played...that it's not that easy when you're out in the middle.

Mate, strategically the Pakistanis have blunted our boundary hitting ability by taking pace off the ball and lengthening the boundaries. We needed to make the adjustments but our batsmen do not have the ability to rotate the strike.

It is as simple as that. The archives are bloated with such threads and the usual suspects saw no problem with our high percentage of dot balls.

Guess what? It has come to bite us in we arse.

It was only a matter of time.

We can expect other countries to continue with this strategy.

That was not the lineup to perform. No Simmons/Gayle/Russell and an unproven captain was a recipe for disaster.

Guess what came out the oven?

And pray tell exactly what Philo should know?.

We've ALWAYS backed ourselves. With good reason AND results.

You think this is the first time teams have taken the pace off the ball and had us play on longer boundaries?

We're not just going to all of a sudden become this team that rotates the strike on a regular basis. I'm not saying it's a bad thing at all or that it won't enhance our game. But this is the style we play and we've been successful with it.

We're also going through a bit of a transition with the team with some key pieces missing. So this happening now with a rookie captain, 3 rookies making their debut in this series, and another player (Evin Lewis) making his 4th appearance for the team.....isn't the end of the world or a reason to change the way we play at this time IMO

Haven't you read that lengthening the boundaries and taking pace off the ball on a slow wicket was a deliberate strategy from the Pakistanis. Do you think it came out of thin air.

As far as I can recall, we have never had to deal with a combination of a slow pitch, a plethora of spinners and test match size boundaries in T20 cricket. It is easy to do this because the matches are being played at the same venue.

I will appreciate if you can draw to my attention any other such occasion.

Panelist: "Over the years we have not adjusted to conditions when they are foreign to us"

In a nutshell. Thank you, Sir Panelist.

I saw at home to see Philo for the first time in this match;
Barbados v Trinidad and Tobagol
I learned from the fans the type of player Philo was, everyone knew he like hooking and Antione fed him short pitch deliveries and he could not help himself.

I have no idea what you mean by positive record.

And to think UAE was supposed to be a neutral venue.

Gayle is the only players that has dominated at the international T20 for the WI.

natty_forever 2016-09-28 08:09:58

I guess taking pace off the ball is a new concept. No Gayle No Simmons No DRERUS is more like it.

natty_forever 2016-09-28 08:11:09

In reply to tc1... a know the man large but

Gayle is the only players
... in answer to that lie, DRERUS does.

Simmons has a 26 batting average in T20i and was the reason why we got into the finals in the world T20. Domination is not necessary when all we needed was competent.

Simmonds had one good game, there are all the same, they score a good inning once every 15 games.

One good game out of 2 in the WC... That is important fact.

Also he is capable of rotating the strike in big fields and does not depend on sixes and boundaries all the time.

my feeling is that Pooran, Lewis and Powell will be very good. It will take a little time for them to transition to the international level. A little home cooking will help. A season or two in the IPL will help also.
