What's up with Sri Lanka A vs West Indies A final Test?
In reply to voiceofreason
I was hoping someone would tell me about what is happening. I believe they will use a pink ball so I am confused about time for this match. If someone understands, please explain?
In reply to voiceofreason
Don't know if it's a wash out or what, cause can't see anything on it either.
And you know you can't get any info from Windies cricket.
that's all I got here
In reply to positiveg
Cricinfo took down the link. Yes it was scheduled to start at 10am local which was 1230am our time. Nothing at all. If Cricinfo and Sri lanka cricket don't have you expect Windiescricket to have? Lol.
In reply to solidrock
Time was scheduled for 10am locally. Not sure what is going on.
In reply to voiceofreason
lol lol
I know didn't expect it from Windies cricket but was like let me try me luck see even if there's a tweet
I don't know if they had a lot of rains or if the match was rescheduled or what
Would be nice to know what's going on

Cornwall in the wickets again looks a bit expensive. Can you post a link please?

R Chandrika c Silva b Madushanka 11
KOA Powell b Asalanka 8
SO Hetmyer c Thirimanne b Sandakan 94
VA Singh lbw b Gamage 15
SSJ Brooks* not out 43
JN Hamilton not out 5
In reply to Narper
183 and Hetmyer made 94 and scoring at 4 an over? Wish the senior team or rather the next team could bat at this run rate!
In reply to Narper
Hoping we can put some runs on the board to lead in the 1st innings.
Good to see Hety getting some runs man
Powell I ain't know...
Singh shows he's human after all.
Two potential captains on show for WI: Brooks and Hetmyer!
In reply to positiveg
I expect them to come close...I feel comfortable with Cornwall and Roach to come we can get 100 odd runs more with Brooks and Hamilton at the crease.
In reply to yardman83
I believe that Hetmyer got out just short of a hundred. Further from deduction Powell and Chadrika scored only a few runs since two wickets were lost before 45 runs.
Because there was a large 3rd wicket partnership, I perceive Brooks made at least fifty. In addition, since that partnership ended with Hetmyer getting out for 94.
Therefore, the 4th wicket out is between Brooks and Singh. My vote, Singh failed this innings and not out batsmen are Brooks and Hamilton (the only conjecture which might be wrong is Brooks got out before tea and Singh and Hamilton are not out at the start of their innings as we go into the third day of play)
I did not see the actual scorecard before posting and from postings above mine...it looks as if I was close in reasoning.
In reply to analyst-kid
I agree. Cornwall is due. This would be a good innings to find some form as it's his last match !
In reply to yardman83
Chandrika 10
Powell 8
Hetmeyer 94
Singh 15
Brooks 43*
Hamilton 5*
Unfortunately, Hety got out caught at slip off the left arm chinaman bowler. Cheesy got a bad decision as he inside-edged a ball to his hip and got adjudged LBW.
In reply to Judgement
Powell has had a bad tour with no 50's after 5 innings. Was he rushed back? Should he have been allowed to play a full FC season before being selected to tour?
In reply to Narper
Watch out for that youth Hetmyer... He could bat!
is powell done just like sarwan who just couldnt bat anymore
In reply to navindesigns
I can't really think of a reason why Powell was picked for this tour, the guy played something like 3 FC matches in 18 months before this tour.
I suppose going on an 'A' Tour is better than a training squad with the Leeward Islands, if anything he might now find form in the FC Season.
In reply to navindesigns
You just don't take two years off and expect to come back and play and be successful at this level. Powell did not even perform well at the LICA 50 over competition so I am not sure how he was deemed ready for international play. He would have been better served allowing him to play regionals and let Montcin Hodge do the tour.
In reply to solidrock
lolol.
In reply to voiceofreason
Hodge should definitely have played ahead of Powell....
In reply to mikesiva
I thought it was a gamble to bring Powell back thinking ok maybe he can just snap back into Int'l form or close to it but that didn't work.
So Hodge yeah he put some runs in.
All in all so far the A team though have done reasonably well and if they can win this one too that would be a great way to finish the First Class part of the tour.
... or the powers that be trying to get him playing as much competitive cricket as possible.
In reply to natty_forever
or that
In reply to natty_forever
In an interview Dave Cameron stated that Kieran Powell was earmarked for the captaincy position.
In reply to Judgement
Thanks!
In reply to voiceofreason... okay. Has he ever done the job before?
In reply to voiceofreason
In reply to natty_forever
In an interview Dave Cameron stated that Kieran Powell was earmarked for the captaincy position
I clearly remember that.
I also remember Powell declined rapidly after that statement
In reply to Narper
In reply to natty_forever
He has captained the Leewards and the A team before.
In reply to voiceofreason... okay. so no problem here if marked for captaincy. Is when them come from left field a have a problem.
That captaincy remark came before he took his hiatus from cricket.
Powell captained a winning West Indies A team in India in 2013 and a West Indies A team in the Caribbean in 2012. He will obviously take a little time getting his old form back after two years out of cricket and just 3 FC games before his selection for this A team tour. He has too much experience and class to not bounce back and his selection onto this A team with Pybus and Courtney Browne running their heirarchy says something about their belief in his experience and ability. Word has it Phil Simmons wanted him straight into the senior team earlier this summer but Powell needs a little time, the runs will come.
From 204 for 5 to
WI A have collapsed......
West Indies A 241/9 (61)
Shimron Hetmyer 94, Shamarh Brooks 54, Kasun Madushanka 3/45, Lakshan Sadakan 2/52
Bowled out for 243
Link Text
Shamarh Brooks hasn't quite made it onto the radar of posters on this MB but he has quietly posted scores of 65 and 28 (1st match); 3 and 53 not out (2nd match) and now 54 in the 1st innings of this match...that's a tour average of just over 50
Sri Lanka A 2nd Innings 109/2 after 30overs. R. Cornwall 2/21
Weerakkody 48
Sri Lanka A 134/2 (34 overs).
In reply to goliath
Brooks is a good player, he played a few seasons here in Toronto. Like most however, his record doesn't do his ability justice. He's got a good cricketing brain hence he's been captain at many levels.
4fer for Cornwall
SL A 166 / 4
What happened to the other bowlers? Looks like Rakeem show in the second innings.
In reply to Pacy
You mean Sri Lanka A.
In reply to yardman83
Yes. Typo
In reply to Pacy
Any more updates? Seems like this match is being played at a top secret location. Very few consistent updates.
I am seeing SL 'A' - 186/4 off 50 overs. Gunaratne 66*. Cornwall 4/55. Lead is 261.
In reply to yardman83
What is the end of day score?
In reply to voiceofreason
SL A - 211/ 5 lead of 285 runs.
In reply to Pacy
Interesting final day in store. They will have to declare early to set a 300 total and try to bowl out Windies for the win. I believe we have the batsmen who will go at it.
is cornwall that good of a bowler?
In reply to voiceofreason
Yes. It would come down to when SL A declares on the final day
In reply to navindesigns
I do not know, but he loves taking plenty wickets and that is a killer instinct that we need more and more in our team.
In reply to navindesigns
I had not seen a WI spinner dominate in any international tour so much over the past 2 decades to my knowledge. Just on that respect I think he should be special in some way
Over the past year or two, when I thought about Rahkeem Cornwall more as a good potential batsman who was bulky. To see how he has grabbed his bowling opportunities on the international scene on "Muttiah Muralitharan home turf" as an offspinner wakes me up. That fact speaks loud.
Further, if he really can bat at six or seven on many teams and he has not come good with the bat yet on the international scene then he must have some real talent. I wonder if he sees himself more of a batsman than bowler?
Link Text
From photos and the little I have seen on TV and photos, he does not seem to be "fat and out of shape:" but someone who simple has a big frame, but not abnormal.
Proof at the following Link Text
When you think West Indian cricket, you think athletes who, it seems, can bolt across track for a decent quick 100-metre time if they want. Well, Cornwall doesnt fit that category. His is the sort of body youd associate with the guys sitting on the sidelines with a beer in hand. Obviously Cornwall isnt one for that. He is a big-built 22 year old from Antigua with a bright smile, good bat speed and effective offspin. He might just make it to the national side at some stage in the future too, but, by then, he might not be as big as he is now. So if you want to catch a glimpse of one of the biggest cricketers in world cricket at the moment, look him up right now.
Some credit MUST be given to a guy who can take wickets away on the Asian continent against batsmen adept and accustomed to playing spin bowling...something akin to Sylvester Clarke ROUTING SA batsmen in SA.
He and Singh should be on the tour to Zimbabwe...I'm a Bajan but Cornwall has future potential whilst Benn at 35 has no more to show.
In reply to analyst-kid
I agree about the value of sending him in place of Benn when the fire is hot for this young man.
This man Cornwall has taken big wicket hauls against Guyana,Trinidad,Barbados,Jamaica, India and now Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka....what more proof we want to give him test status longside Bishoo?
In reply to analyst-kid... well 4 out a that 6 don't count.

He not slim enough.
In reply to voiceofreason... sad.
SL A have resumed their second innings on the final day....are 223/5 at the moment, a lead of 298.
Sri Lanka A 318 (89.2) Sandun Weerakkody 79, Kusal Janith 69, Roshane Silva 49, Charith Asalanka 46, Kasun Madushanka 20, Delorn Johnson 4/65, Rahkeem Cornwall 3/93, Damion Jacobs 2/64 & 257/6d (74.2) Asela Gunaratne 69, Sandun Weerakkody 48, Roshane Silva 44 Rahkeem Cornwall 4/87
Vs
West Indies A 243 (61.4) Shimron Hetmyer 94, Shamarh Brooks 54, Kasun Madushanka 3/45, Lakshan Sadakan 3/54 &
55/0 (12) Kieran Powell 42* (not out)
DAY 4 (WI A NEED 277 RUNS TO WIN at this point)
78/1 18 overs Kieran Powell 44
DAY 4 (WI A NEED 254 RUNS TO WIN)
only two options for WI A here.. a win or an honourable draw.
254 in 72 overs..Powell has set them a platform to bat easy and occupy the crease.
In reply to analyst-kid The "powers above" have put him on a special diet in anticipation of the Test series against Pakistan. He is a very mature 23 year old as well. He will dominate the international scene in next 3-6 months.
In reply to analyst-kid
Any other updates on this match?
In reply to yardman83
It''s disappointing that the WICB don't have anyone at the match who can post these scores on twitter.
No internet access at the venue?
183/6 (54) Shamarh Brooks 46, Kieran Powell 44
WI A NEED 149 RUNS TO WIN
In reply to solidrock
Gm. Keep the scores coming please. Looks like a loss barring some late order heroics.
In reply to mikesiva
I agree. I am wondering whether they traveled with a PR person. I wonder how many officials are there because they could easily send something to the windiescricket.com website.
In reply to yardman83
The issue may well be internet connectivity as Cricinfo not getting updated too.
In reply to voiceofreason
One site saying WI A needs 71 runs to win but I am not seeing an update on the scorecards as it is still saying 183/6.
192/9 (66) Shamarh Brooks 46, Kieran Powell 44,
Jeffrey Vandersay 5/46
SL A won by 138 runs. WI A all out for 194 (67.2) overs.
ROFL
In reply to romanticking... how India doing?
In reply to natty_forever
And you send de man just so back into hiding?
In reply to mikesiva I was receiving match updates from the venue in real time so internet connectivity is definitely not the issue lol.
In reply to positiveg... could from time to time produce that quicker one ...
Who are the coaches and management of the West Indies A squad in Sri Lanka?
Allyuh that lazy - check Cric Info.
Sri Lanka
Wasn't it Ryan Hinds who introduced Cornwall to CornChefette?
In reply to TheTrail
Cricinfo updated the game at the end of the game.
In reply to voiceofreason
Here are the tour stats....
1) Vishal Singh - 324 runs @ average of 64.80 = EXCELLENT
2) Shamarh Brooks - 249 runs @ ave of 49.80 = GOOD
3) Shimron Hetmyer - 188 runs @ ave of 47 = GOOD
4) Jahmar Hamilton - 202 runs @ ave of 40.40 = GOOD
5) Raj Chandrika - 203 runs @ ave of 33.83 = FAIL
6) Kieron Powell - 119 runs @ ave of 19.83 = FAIL
7) John Campbell - 34 runs @ ave of 17 = FAIL
Unfortunately, all the opening batsmen failed, so the problem of finding a partner for Kraigg continues. Vishal has done enough IMHO to earn a call up to the Test squad. Brooks, Hetmyer and Hamilton could do with another A team tour to build on their success. And Powell should stay in the A team.
1) Rahkeem Cornwall - 23 wickets @ average of 19.82 = EXCELLENT
2) Delorn Johnson - seven wickets @ ave of 23.71 = GOOD
3) Keon Joseph - eight wickets @ ave of 27 = GOOD
4) Damion Jacobs - two wickets @ ave of 48 = FAIL
5) Kemar Roach - five wickets @ ave of 49.20 = FAIL
6) Gudakesh Moti-Kanhai - three wickets @ ave of 58.66 = FAIL
What can I say? Cornwall is our best A team bowler. Delorn and Keon are the next pacers on the cab rank, ahead of Roach, who clearly doesn't not deserve a recall to the Test team. Moti-Kanhai can do with another run in the A team, or maybe Nikita Miller should be called up instead.
In reply to mikesiva
Fair enough assessment but I believe you are being too harsh on Jacobs and Campbell when they played only one game. Their grade should be incomplete.
Secondly, the A-Team should be for player development and Nikita Miller at his age and experience should not be in that squad.
