2nd Test: Pakistan v West Indies at Abu Dhabi
Misbah-ul-Haq*, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Imran Khan, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nawaz (3), Rahat Ali, Sami Aslam, Sarfraz Ahmed, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz, Yasir Shah, Zulfiqar Babar
West Indies Squad
JO Holder*, KC Brathwaite, D Bishoo, J Blackwood, CR Brathwaite, DM Bravo, RL Chase, ML Cummins, SO Dowrich, ST Gabriel, SD Hope, LR Johnson, AS Joseph, MN Samuels, JA Warrican
The pitch for the previous Test in Abu Dhabi, between England and Pakistan in October last year, drew criticism for its unresponsive nature. In matches prior to that one, however, the pitch offered some assistance to seamers and spinners. The weather is expected to be clear in Abu Dhabi for the course of the game.
-Darren Bravo has made 1507 runs in Asia at an average of 60.28, the third-best for any overseas batsman with at least 1500 runs in Asia. Bravo has hit five hundreds and seven fifties in just 15 Tests in Asia
-Misbah-ul-Haq is set to equal Imran Khan's record of captaining Pakistan in the most Tests. The Abu Dhabi match will be Misbah's 48th Test as captain
-Pakistan have a 4-0 win-loss record from eight Tests in Abu Dhabi - the most they have played and won at any venue without losing a match
-Marlon Samuels made his debut in 2000 and has played 69 Tests. He needs another 146 runs to complete 4000 runs in the format
Stats:
-A win in this Test would give Misbah 24th win away from home - the most for any captain. Currently, he is tied with Clive Lloyd and Graeme Smith with 23 Test wins.
- Jason Holder has taken just two wickets from his 119.2 overs in six Tests this year at an average of 169.5 per scalp.
In reply to Narper
Lloyd said
And thus was he
Shai hope for Dowrich ( injured) WI going in with back up keeper.
How good is shai with the glove?
The bowlers need to tighten up. There seems to be a four ball every over which releases the pressure.
People on the cricinfo comments message board going in on Holder, saying his batting and bowling averages do not warrant a place in the team.
In reply to yardman83
Sammy Part II?
Pakistan 95-2 at lunch.
Shafiq 54*
Younus 29*
The West Indies Test team has been so crap that most of the regulars have given up on following this match. This thread is deserted!
Wickets to date....
Gabriel bowled azhar for a duck.
Bishoo bowled aslam for six.
Then a long wait until shortly after lunch....
Gabriel bowls Shafiq for 68...three down.
129/3 as Gabriel picks up his 2nd.
The two senior men, Younus and Misbah, at the crease
Viv commentating on the match outside the ground. Says that batsman looks like Ranatunga
Bravo doing some keep ups
In reply to Acid
Kraigg drops a caught and bowled....
Pakistan 205-3 at tea.
Younus 84*
Misbah 35*
Braffit just dropped a caught and bowled chance off Younis. That would have lifted the spirits a bit. Now it seems like its on to a 100 for Younis. smh.
Bad drop by paint
Younis will double now
WOUNDIANS still watching these test matches. Pak Kicking WOUNDIES ass like anything. WOUNDIANS don't have any shame.
In reply to romanticking... this the reason why
another drop....Hope the culprit this time off Gabriel.
In reply to kurios oranj
Would have been a different picture with those two back in the pavilion it would have been a different name. Very sad!
I hope they don't blame Dave Cameron for these drop catches - POINT!
Gabriel seems to be bowling well without much luck.
Gabriel seems to be bowling well without much luck.
In reply to Pacy
Well, already Shai has dropped a catch....
pakistan should really let younis khan go for the 400 this time
In reply to navindesigns... even when he out? You folks seem to think 400 easy.
Finally a wkt
Younis Khan c Chase b Brathwaite 127
In reply to Discourse
Kraigg takes the wicket of Younus for 127, and that's stumps.
Pakistan 304-4.
Misbah 90*
In reply to navindesigns
We should let him go for 130
In reply to mikesiva
Oh! Did not see that. But it is understandable that it was going to be tough for Shai who does not keep regularly
In reply to Pacy
If you don't keep regularly, I don't think a test match is a place where you would step up. Then again if he is the back up keeper, he will be the one given the job.
In reply to mikesiva
Devendra Bishoo (lb) 20.0 0 92 1
ton coming up
Pakistan 320/4 (86.6 ov)
pak 331-4
Gabriel gets Misbah for 96. Chance to bowl Pakistan out for under 400.
334-5
342-6. Yasir Shah is out. Holder takes a wicket. Times of plenty.

Thx!
In reply to Larr Pullo
sent you a pm link-lots of pop-up ads to contend with though.
I can't believe there are WI "fans" proposing that Gabriel be omitted from this WI team.
Cummins struggling a bit at the moment. He has the basics - pace, stamina, etc, but he needs to work on his bowling strategy.
You don't get wickets with nothing but short rising deliveries all the time.
Bishoo bowling. Length a bit up and down at the moment, but the batsmen are watching him carefully.
Pak 360-6.
Chase to bowl now.
Bowling outside off, but Pak keeper Safraz is going after everything. Sweeps him from outside off to square leg for 4!
Pak 368-6 in 100 overs.
Bishoo bowling the top spinner these days.
Pak 378-6 in 103 overs.
Darn! The inevitable Bishoo short ball cut viciously behind point for 4!
Pak 398-6 in 106.3 overs.
Raps Safraz low on the pads, in front the wicket and the appeal goes up!
"Not out" says the ump. WI review. Bishoo may have overstepped! Deemed a legal delivery. Seems to have ducked under the bat. Missing the stumps!
Not out, after a lengthy review.
Crowd getting a bit cranky after that!
Chase with last over before lunch, to Safraz.
Pak 401-6 off 108 overs at lunch.
Safraz bowled for 56 by a fast in-swinging full toss from Gabriel that hits the base of off stump!
Pak 412-7 in 109.5 overs.
Chase takes over from Bishoo.
417-7 in 111 overs.
Gabriel again, to the defensive-minded Nawaz.
In reply to Norm
That last wicket was at 152km!
In reply to mikesiva
Gabriel is getting better and better.
Appeal for lbw! Missing leg stump. Not out.
Got him lbw next ball!!!!
Being reviewed. Missing leg stump again!!! Not out.
422-7 in 112 overs.
Chase continues. He hasn't been troubling the batsmen much.
427-7 in 113 overs.
Gabriel again. Consistently in the mid 140's.
429-7 in 114 overs.
Holder comes back. "Bouncer" at 125 k barely goes over the crouched Sohail!
Nawaz bowled by a yorker from Holder!!!
Pak 430-8 in 115 overs.
Surely Bishoo can clean up the tail!
In reply to Norm
Into the tail...that doesn't happen too often.
In reply to yardman83
Just clean it up!
In reply to mikesiva
The giddy heights for WI bowlers!
Pak tail wagging tho. Sohail clouts Gabriel off his hip for 4 to square leg! Then takes 4 more behind point!
442-8 in 116 overs.
Fazeer carrying on about Holder's unimpressive Test bowling.
Holder continues, and is getting quite a bit of bounce now. Batsmen are hopping and defending. Almost pops it to short leg.
442-8 in 117 overs. Maiden.
Gabriel again. Sohail hits him a bit airily thru covers for 4 more! Bravo goes over and gives Gabriel a bit of advice.
Pak 452-8 in 118 overs. Pak must be thinking about getting to 500.
Gabriel is getting tired.
Holder again. Keeping it just outside off, on a good length.
And Sohail is brilliantly caught by a diving Johnson at mid on, pulling at a short rising delivery from Holder!
Third wicket for Holder in this innings.
Pak 452-9 in 118.3 overs, with drinks being taken at the fall of the last wicket.
In reply to Norm
Holder gets a third!
In reply to mikesiva
Holder is bowling quite decently at the moment! Almost bowls Rahat Ali with a big off-cutter.
452-9 in 119 overs.
Gabriel continues.
Gone!!! Caught behind. Gabriel gets 5!!!
In reply to Norm
Gabriel gets his five-fer! Pakistan 452 all out....
In reply to mikesiva
Being reviewed? Not a no-ball. Confirmed as "Out"!
The bowlers manage to dismiss Pak under 500 with Gabriel bowling well, Holder bowling semi-decently and Bishoo + Cummins + Chase in poor form.
Anything from Paint is a bonus.
WI will have 50 overs or so to face today, as the umps take the middle.
Johnson is ready to go out, with Bravo. Brathwaithe was apparently off the field for a significant amount of time and has to wait to bat as a result.
He is padded up to go in next.
Left-arm Rahat Ali to bowl, to Johnson.
Ali's line is quite erratic in his first over, but Johnson is his usual uninspiring self.
Rapped twice on the pads in the over, swishing and missing at one outside off and missing a glance down leg.
WI 0-0 in 1 over.
Sohail to Bravo. He too goes fishing outside off, off the first ball! Settles down after that.
WI 0-0 in 2 overs.
Ali to Johnson. Short and rising on leg. Pulled nicely thru mid wicket for 4! He is now leaving balls outside off alone.
In reply to Norm
How did the West Indies management make that cock-up?
It's a risk playing your best batsman as opener...I just hope we don't regret it.
In reply to mikesiva
Paint's fault, apparently.
Bravo edges Sohail and it almost carries to 2nd slip!!!
WI 4-0 in 4 overs.
Ali again. Short, and Johnson pulls a bouncer on leg to mid wicket and takes 1 off the 1st ball of the over.
Bravo cuts another short ball, on off stump, past point for 4!
In reply to mikesiva
When you bat at three for the West Indies ,opening shouldn't make a lot of difference.
In reply to cricketmad
Let's hope so....
So far, Lil Bravo looks comfortable.
In Tests this year, Bravo came in at the 12th over, the ninth over, the 12th over, the 25th over, the fourth over, the third over, the third over, the 15th over, the first over, and the fifth over.
In reply to cricketmad
Sometimes even at Six.
WI 12-0 in 5 overs.
Sohail again, to Bravo.
Bravo drives him effortlessly thru extra covers for 4!!!
WI 16-0 in 6 overs.
Spin. Slow left arm Zulfiqar Babar to bowl the 7th over.
In reply to mikesiva
Sohail Khan to Bravo, FOUR, oh yes. A touch short, a touch wide. But Bravo stays in his crease, transfers his weight onto the back foot and then crashes his punch through covers for four. Stunning shot
Johnson moves down to Babar and lifts him dangerously straight back, but it lands safely.
18-0 in 7 overs.
Sohail to continue. Bravo turns him to square leg for 1. Goes down the track to give Johnson a word of advice.
Kraigg couldn't open because he spent too much time off the field.
Babar again, around the wicket to Johnson.
WI 21-0 in 9 overs.
Spin from both ends now. Off-spinner Shafiq on, to Johnson.
WI 23-0 in 10 overs.
Babar to Bravo. Drives him beautifully thru covers for 4!!
WI 27-0 in 11 overs at Tea.
In reply to Norm
Lil Bravo 15*
Leon 12*
In reply to Norm
Hope they don't lose concentration and get out right after tea.
In reply to tops
40 overs left today. Would be good for WI to have these two still batting at the close of play today.
Rahat Ali to start after tea, to Johnson. Ali's line is still very erratic.
WI 27-0 in 12 overs.
Babar to bowl, to Bravo. He flights it well, and gets the odd one to rip and turn big.
WI 27-0 in 13 overs. Two maidens in a row after tea.
In reply to Norm
I'm enjoying your commentary/scores. Thanks.
Ali to Johnson. Raps him in front with a short one that kept low. Appeal goes up.
"Out" says the umpire!!! Bravo says "Don't waste a review!" and Johnson treks off for yet another low score.
In reply to Norm
Leon out lbw to Rahat for 12...plumb. Good thing he didn't review that.
In reply to tops
You are welcome!
Paint almost caught behind now. Didn't quite carry to the keeper.
Ali isn't bowling particularly well, but Johnson, and now Paint, just haven't played confidently.
WI 29-1 in 14 overs.
Babar to continue. Paint looking a bit stiff.
30-1 in 15 overs.
Ali again. Bravo drives him nicely thru the covers for 3 more.
Bravo drives him again thru the covers, for 4 more!
WI 38-1 in 16 overs.
Babar again. This guy doesn't need a mask for Haloween.
Good length delivery finds the inside edge of Bravo's bat and runs down to fine leg for 1.
WI 42-1 in 17 overs.
Ali continues.
Good length ball on off edged safely thru the slips by Bravo for 4!
Ali's line and length are getting much better now.
Paint, on the other hand, is settling in nicely. Maybe it is a good idea to send him in at No 3.
WI 47-1 in 18 overs.
Babar again. Bravo edges him just wide of the slips for 1.
WI 51-1 in 19 overs.
Ali continues, to Paint. His speed is now up to 140 k, and he's looking quite competent now.
WI 51-1 in 20 overs.
In reply to Norm
There are bajans waiting in the wings, for piece of the pie
Wat you surprize for
WI cricket is expendable
Sohail returns.
Short on leg but didn't get up much. Bravo pulls it easily to mid wicket for 4!
WI 55-1 in 21 overs.
In reply to Halliwell
Insularity is still a big problem for WI cricket.
Babar replaces Ali.
WI 56-1 in 22 overs.
Yasir Shah finally gets to bowl, to Paint. Gets in a wicket googly to Paint, who plays it confidently.
WI 60-1 in 23 overs.
In reply to Norm
A good review...Bravo out lbw to Yasir for 43.
Michael Gough not having a good match. Decision to give Samuels out lbw was reversed on review. Bat first....
Pakistanis much more astute at reviews than windies.
Catch better too...
Bowl better too
Bat better too
Samuels hits Yasir for three boundaries in an over!
Before that over, the WI run rate was two runs an over....
Crap review by Misbah!
Pitched well outside leg...even Arthur knew that.
In reply to doublecentury
Spoke too soon......dreadful review from Pakistan against Braithwaite.
Samuels got ants in his pants against Yasir..... I watch the proceedings with interest.
How do you coach for idiocy? I am not sure what Samuels heard. A couple more overs to close of play and you give away your wicket? Plus, where was Brathwaite going? Stand and face the bowler! You are the batsman. Gone and give your wicket away needlessly. It is clear that we concede games more than the other team winning them. This is painful to watch!
Bishop: "Just isolate it with the ball"....and hear Viv's answer.
Comedy Central.
Fack man!!!
Samuels is so amateur!
Being in the WI set up with Robert Samuels, I often chat/message him about Marlon. This boy's head is so hard
In reply to yardman83
You certainly can't coach for the idiocy surrounding Kraigg's run out. What was he thinking? As Faz and Viv pointed out, Kraigg should take a lion's share of the blame for his own run out.
And what was Blackwood doing? Just hanging out his bat, getting the edge to the keeper. Out for eight....
Bishoo's long vigil of 20 offf 66 finally comes to an end...bowled by Sohail.
Chase and Hope paint their way to 151-6 at lunch.
Chase 11* (57)
Hope 1* (23)
Everybody's taking inspiration from Kraigg...Chase out caught in the slips off Yasir for 22 off 80 balls.
Four and out! Shai Hope bowled by Yasir playing across the line for 11 off 60 balls.
Cummins bowled by Sohail for three...nine down.
Yasir gets his fourth, and Gabriel is out for 13. West Indies 224 all out, with Holder not out on 31.
The damn Pakistanis switched the pitch on us!

Misbah to declare at lunch?
Leon Johnson is out of his present depth trying to be our opener. Gone bowled in a silly way in the second innings.
In reply to solidrock
He 'saw off' the pace but succumbed to the spinner again. Where in the batting line-up will he be able to avoid spinner? If you are a batsma, you should be able to bat anywhere in the line-up. The aim is to grab your opportunity wherever it presents itself and he has not done that. I do not even know where to begin because there are not a lot of other knocking down the door either so...
Is that Paint? Bat on!
A wicket for Gabriel last night, but - shock, horror! - Cummins took a wicket this morning....
Windies got this in the bag. 61-1.
In reply to kurios oranj
A bit too premature . We will be lucky to last the rest of the day based on the rest in the hut.
In reply to yardman83
Bravo's gone now which is a bit of a hit but I'll be surprised if Windies haven't wrapped this up sometime after tea tomorrow.
In reply to kurios oranj
Kraigg hit a six!
In reply to mikesiva
was that in singles? Even Cricinfo refuses to accept it; they have it down as a four.
50 to Brathwaite. Well batted so far.
Dis done 2-nil soon to be 3 and a clean sweep. COI needed.
In reply to kurios oranj
Tea 86-2
Kraigg 55*
Samuels 9*
In reply to mikesiva
Samuels scoring a double century!
In reply to XDFIX
Does a double ten count?
Ok, just in time to see the last over of the day

Stumps - Day 4
West Indies 171/4 (62.0 ov)
Roston Chase 17*
Jermaine Blackwood 41*
In reply to Discourse
Can we replicate a 1st test performance and take it into the last session on the 5th day? I guess we have to take small mercies when they come. We have begun to take teams into the 4th and 5th days instead of the 2 and 3-day tests we used to have. We still not bowling out teams twice, which means that we cannot win test matches. We also not making 350 runs consistently to challenge teams either. Lots to do with both bat and ball.
In reply to yardman83
I'm glad we're able to reach the 4th & 5th days currently but the disparity between the teams is so glaring, need not say more. Our weakest department so far is the bowling, horrendously poor.
In reply to Discourse
The WI bowling is ordinary, but the batting is worst, the team have too many inconsistent batsmen.
In reply to dayne
It's hard to argue which is worse...both departments are really poor.
Blackwood gets his half-century...well played, young man.
That should be enough for you to secure your place in this really poor 'C' team this series....
Chase out for 20...another low score for the allrounder. His highest score this series has been 35, and he averages 20 on this tour.
West Indies 220/5 (79.1 ov)
West Indies require another 236 runs with 5 wickets remaining
Darn. Blackwood bowled for 95 by a Yasir Shah top-spinner pitched on leg.
WI 244-6.
In reply to Norm
Blackwood bowled by Yasir for an entertaining 95...that was a joy to watch.
In reply to mikesiva
True. He is capable alright, but needs to work on the mental side to do justice to that talent. Fortunately for him, the competition for his spot is not that great.
Bowled for 95? In these hard times for WI? How often will he get there again?
Shai Hope looking good here.
Babar to Holder. Floated on a length to middle stump. Holder takes a half step back to leg and lifts it effortlessly over covers for SIX!!!
WI 255-6.
In reply to Norm Wonderful six Holder!!!!!!!
In reply to solidrock
He made that look easy!
In reply to Norm
Maybe he could get there next match
Yasir Shah getting ragged. Full toss, followed by a rank Bishoo-style long hop!
WI 259-6.
In reply to spider
In theory he could, of course, but how do you get near 100 often in a team that struggles to put together 200?
Pak over-bowling a very tired Yasir Shah.
Raps Holder on the back foot in front of middle stump with another top spinner and he's gone lbw!!
WI 266-7.
Replay shows that the ball would have hit leg stump.
Very good fiver Shah. Respect!
Bishoo in. Hammers Shah over long on for 4! He doesn't plan on poking around out there!
WI 272-7 at lunch. Hope 23*, Bishoo 5*.
Faz noting the Mushfiqur Rahim has complained that Bangladesh don't get to play enough Test cricket, and they didn't play any Tests in 15 months before the England series.
Easy solution: play West Indies on a regular basis. That way, both teams would finally have a chance to win a Test match!
Fazeer: "Holder is talking about the West Indies team being in transition. Well, 20 years is not a transition. It's a depression."
We're still waiting for Shai Hope's maiden Test half-century...out for 41.
Another shocking decision by umpire Michael Gough...overturned by a Miguel Cummins review.
Didn't take long...Yasir bowlers Cummins for a duck.
Bishoo out for 26...322 all out.
