HEADLINE: Pollard hits back

CaribbeanCricket.com 2016-10-26 08:18:34

Kieron Pollard has challenged the West Indies selectors’ rationale for dropping him for the tri-series in Zimbabwe in November. Pollard said he was told that he had not been “committed to batting” during the recent limited-overs games against Pakistan in UAE.

Calling the decision “funny”, Pollard said he would not “campaign or do anything to convince them” to select him and instead focus on looking after himself in the future.
What confused Pollard about his axing for the Zimbabwe tri-series was that, according to him, the West Indies chairman of selectors Courtney Browne had agreed during a conversation in the UAE that his experience would be good in a young squad.

“When chairman of selectors Courtney Browne notified me via email of my axing, I reminded him of why my exclusion was funny because during the Twenty20 and one-day series, the two of us had a long conversation, speaking about wanting to have guys such as myself around going forward in West Indies cricket,” Pollard told ESPNcricinfo.

Pollard should go away and play IPL - Windies need a new regime!

“I’m 29 years old, but the way people talk of me being a senior player or veteran you would swear my age is 39. Realistically now I just have to look after Kieron Pollard. So I’m not going to campaign or do anything to try and convince them to pick me again.”

Good luck!!

Is anyone scoring runs consistently?

The duplicity and distrust in WI cricket continues.

In the final analysis who wins?

sad

Pollard's heart is not in the game when playing for WI. The passion is missing.
When playing for moolah, that is a different story.

Show some passion. Cuss when you out stupidly (which is quite often)
Chide or berate others for not pulling their weight in a game, whether it be in fielding , batting or any facet of the game.

That is the leadership qualities needed that would encourage the selectors to keep you on the team.

The fact that you are not scoring runs and show no passion combine to convince the selectors that they should look elsewhere.

Its not like he was not looking after Kerion Pollard before.

This is the same dude that was chiding the selectors for selecting him after he recovered from an Injury.

These modern day WI cricketer seems to only develop passion for the game when them off the team. They show more passion for being dropped than actually playing.

Did you see the catch he took at the boundary? Or he came to Holders support when he was completely lost in the field?

If you say his returns are not good enough so he is being dropped I would completely agree. But to paint as lack of commitment is the pathetic excuse or a reason. If he was not comitted what about all the others who were pathetic? Charles in particular batted like a headless chicken in all the matches.

When such a statement comes from a selector who holds a key position in WI cricket it is seriously negative influence among the players. But I know they dont care

So I’m not going to campaign or do anything to try and convince them to pick me again.

We all are aware of his failure against Pakistan, but was it necessary to drop him against weaker opposition,he should have been retained for that series.Pollard is a brilliant fieldsman, and not a bad OD bowler,Zimbabwe would have been just the chance to make up for his Pakistan failure.Waqar Younis was wrong to criticize KP.

The real issue is the politics between the WICB and a certain group of players whom he is part of being treated unfairly. We have seen Gayle, Bravo, Rampaul, Russell, Sammy, Ramdin, Pollard repeatedly in disagreement with the board's personnel, system and treatment of the players. These guys are the ones being more vocal that the became victims.

The selectors are used as mops to discard these players without reason. It's like going for an interview and they tell you you are over qualified.

There isn't any system or qualification for this job of being a player, all is needed is consistency performing below average and and willing to do as you are told and you in. Hence the reason for the performances and results on the field.

Gayle, Bravo, Rampaul, Russell, Sammy, Ramdin, Pollard

Gayle, Bravo & Pollard in particular....and to a lesser extent Sammy and Russell....are all in a sound financial position...which is a big reason why they're often the most vocal against perceived injustice.

As long as WICB holds a hammer over players....players will remain mostly mute or "look the other way" when shit goes down. Some heven hinform on their fellow players back to the WICB
