THE BATTLE OF THE OPENERS
I do think that Campbell's style of batting would compliment Braithwaite far better. Plus the left/right combo. But he has to come up with the numbers this season.

Stick wid Twinkletoes.
In reply to Raggs
He will definitely have to put up some numbers. Alleyne doing very well, not sure if he is also considered as opening batsman.
In reply to Raggs
Alleyne and Kyle Hope are putting real good numbers. Campbell would need huge numbers to be in consideration
Powell will get the spot
In reply to Pacy
Good numbers?
Alleyne's maiden FC century.
He will have to hit two or 3 more this season to surpass Chandrika & Powell
I take that back.
But man..cupboard bare when it come on to openers.
Man hit his maiden FC century and is frontrunner for a spot in WI test team

The last U-19 tour in Asia, I told one of his JA supporter, the boy in ready.
I am yet to see him do anything, for him to be ready for the senior team.
Where is Griffiths in all of this, should Yardies tarry with him?
In reply to DIEHARD
The problem is that the other openers are not puttingup the numbers. With a little luck he could have had 3 centuries on the trot:
27 84 88 186 are his numbers so far I think. If he can maintain that average:94.25,he will make the squad if not the starting 11
In reply to Baje
He has to come better than Campbell, no?
In reply to XDFIX
It's good to see opening batsmen doing well in the first two rounds, for a change...no need in 2017 to convert a middle-order batsman like Leon Johnson into an opener, hopefully.
1) Anthony Alleyne - 377 @ average of 94.25
2) Raj Chandrika - 208 runs @ average of 69.33
3) Montcin Hodge - 183 runs @ average of 61
4) John Campbell - 169 runs @ average of 42.25
5) Kyle Hope - 169 runs @ average of 56.33
6) Kieran Powell - 161 runs @ average of 40.25
7) Devon Smith - 124 runs @ average of 41.33
IMHO, these are the front-runners. Let's see who's still there at the end of the race.

Windies will be good, trust mi!
Every cricketer can now eat a food - thanks to comrade Cameron's admin!

Seems like you believe the cricketers in the recent past could not concentrate due to financial issues.
Folks like the idea of dedicated, patriotic cricketers but I know Sir Everton Weekes mentioned that his lack of concern for conditions in India when others were worried had a lot to do with the fact that he was happy to be getting three meals a day.
When I was a boy men used to run out on the field and push money into the pocket of a batsman when he scored a century. I never saw a bowler getting money though.
It does not work without money, never has.

Way ahead of the pack

1) Anthony Alleyne - 443 runs @ average of 88.60
2) Kyle Hope - 255 runs @ ave of 63.75
3) Raj Chandrika - 224 runs @ ave of 56
4) John Campbell - 278 runs @ ave of 46.33
5) Montcin Hodge - 183 runs @ ave of 61
6) Kieran Powell - 161 runs @ ave of 40.25
Devon Smith has slipped out of contention in Round Three IMHO....

This Alleyne guy is continuing to prove his worth
In reply to XDFIX
At this rate, Powell is playing himself out of contention....
Theophile should be in the conversation, he was consistent a year ago, but it seems like he has to exercise better judgement with his shot selection. With Sebastien being a Selector now, he could get a chance if he put up good numbers.
VOR, yuh two picks Hamilton and Ambris had a warm day but yuh British deportee third pick, not so
In reply to dayne
Unfortunately, despite his 96 this round, Theophile still averages only 25 this season. He needs to get his act together....
1) Anthony Alleyne - 451 runs @ average of 64.42
2) Kyle Hope - 354 runs @ ave of 59
3) John Campbell - 320 runs @ ave of 40
4) Montcin Hodge - 281 runs @ ave of 56.20
5) Raj Chandrika - 235 runs @ ave of 39.16
Still waiting for Hetmyer and Powell to improve their averages too.

A few openers showing up!
Alleyne has the advantage in terms of numbers, but Campbell and Hope have greater presence at the crease!
In reply to Slipfeeler
He will definitely have to put up some numbers. Alleyne doing very well, not sure if he is also considered as opening batsman.
Please take your insular blinkers off for once nuh!
Alleyne opened all the matches and you are saying,"not sure he is also considered as opening batsmen"????
Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeps!
19,84,88,186,66,8,0 = 64.43

Allene is also a left handed batsman - he is playing in the same tournament as Campbell, opening.
Really!! What is your point??
The Hammie guy worth a shout out!
In reply to XDFIX
Chandrika drops out of contention....
1) Anthony Alleyne - 451 runs @ average of 56.37
2) Kyle Hope - 410 runs @ ave of 51.20
3) John Campbell - 408 runs @ ave of 45.33
4) Montcin Hodge - 289 runs @ 41.28
In reply to mikesiva
Alleyne's stock falling. Campbell and Hope relatively consistent!
Montcin Hodge, a VOR pick has been around for a long time. He made his First Class debut for Leeward Islands in early 2008.
He has played 32 First Class matches but not much success to date.
Will 2017 be his break through year?
Come in VOR!!
The battle continues next year, how it pans out is anybody's guess.
I would argue that this battle will be the most intriguing part of our cricket moving into next year!
The Brandon King phenomenon should be similar to linsanity, but hopefully with a longer stay!
2017 will mark a turn in West Indies cricket!
