Carrier will remain. Kudos to the deplorable Trump. Saving jobs and not yet in office!

Donald Trump saves 1000 manufacturing jobs
In reply to nitro
Yeah he saved "almost 1000" out of 2100. I believe the amount of people who were represented by the Union was 1400....I wonder if that 'almost 1000' is actually 700.
Funny that this is in Indiana, and was apparently in the works for a year and a half, so Pence nwould have met with these people before...so they get a huge subsidy, Trump gets a small victory and they still ship the jobs they intended to ship.
Big Whoop!

Goods business ploy
Other businesses should do the same
No tax for life
In reply to cricketmygame
At 1000 jobs a month, how long will it take to make America great again?
The other concession under discussion, according to the Journal, is indulging the companys desire for favorable changes to the tax code. One particular offer could be a tax holiday on overseas profits, given that United Technologies held 85 percent of its total cash, coming to more than $6 billion, overseas as of the end of last year.

See it here!
The man is the epitome of greed. IT is no longer about making money to live a good life while helping those working with you do the same. It is about making as much of the backs of others no matter how well off you are and how much they are struggling.
This man only cares about being Rich...and he is the worst type of rich, a recluse. Most rich recluse keep a low profile because they dont want to flaunt, or hubnub with the Elite, this one is a recluse who likes the adoration of people he despises.
He will do favor after favor for the rich Companies, giving them tax breaks, incentives etc while getting little in return.
This is already an example of that. He gives up what this Company no doubt had already told Pence they wanted, keeps a few hundred jobs in the town while most of the higher paying ones are shipped out. No Policy nothing, just a deal with One Company that does little for the common man. Then tweet about it like it's a big deal. Pence could have done this as Governor!!
In reply to Ayenmol
Steeeups!!! You say this as if it is some plague. Who doesn't want to be rich?
In reply to Kay
I dont....there are many people who are satisfied with making a good living. You don't have to be rich to live well. Most of the middle class are made up of people who own small business and employ other s who share in the success. People like Trump are the only ones who benefit from their business model.
Big Business is all about making money for those at the top and shutting the people who make the difference out!
But like most people you seem to be of the growing mindset that riches are all there is to life.
Take this Carrier Corp. and it's Parent...these people are making money hand over fist...why are they moving? Because they dont want to share the money with the workers who grind everyday to make the company what it is. So they move where they can pay the workers next to nothing compared to the US and keep that money for themselves.
GREED GREED GREED!!! It is never enough.

The story of Teldar Papers.
Bitch all you want. Trump in you asses for another 4 Years .
Hope some of you don't get heart attack because of Trump
In reply to Kay
Lol....Go look at the percentage of people who are rich compared to those who are living lives where they have enough but not too much and tell me who's delusional!
Man some of you people...
In reply to Ayenmol
That's the American Dream. The idea that one day an uneducated lazy simpleton can strike it rich and become part of the 1%.
Of course most Americans are far too stupid and delusional to fully understand and comprehend that the system is perfectly set up so that the 1% will always be 1% and no higher.
So following in Trump/Carrier paradigm to keep American companys home what if Honda, Bmw, Toyota, and Volkswagen .. And the myriad of foreign companies who have huge manufacture and assemble plants that employ thousands of Americans why shouldnt these companies follow suit and repatriate their plants home?
In reply to SnoopDog
First of all... I don't think 1% refers to rich, but wealthy...there are a lot of rich people...10-15 million in the US...this is not what we are talking about when discussing Trump or the Owners of Carrier...So when I reply to his Rich comment am talking about that.. You do not become the 1% by striking it Rich...those are millionaires and multimillionaires...Those are not 1%ers.
In reply to birdseye
Who buys Hondas and BMW's and Volkswagens? Japanese? Germans? If you gonna argue please come with one that actually makes a difference. Did these companies close their factories in their homeland or expanded to areas with the greatest demand?
In reply to birdseye
It's a classic case of peddling out easy answers to complex problems. Immigration problems? Build a wall. Trade problems? Stop trading. Climate change? It's a hoax. North Korea? Nuke 'em.
In reply to Ayenmol
I wasn't alluding to the literal numbers in regards to "the rich vs. the 1% billionaires". I know very well what you're talking about.
My post was just to highlight the absurdity of social mobility in America being described and encapsulated by the term "American Dream". And how in fact the system is set up so that that ideal is pretty much unattainable for the vast majority of working class people. The "American Dream" is really the opiate of the American masses.
In reply to Ayenmol
and who buys carrier? Trump should focus more on investing in things that will improve Americas competitiveness over the long haul schools, roads and airports, and do more to retrain American workers who lose their jobs to foreign competition.
Companies often decide where to locate factories and hire people on factors that can change: labor costs, energy bills, transportation expenses.
the U.S. economy is open both to those who would invest here and those who would decide to move abroad......trump 1000 jobs .... well - 20 million jobs were created in the US under the current president --- some how trump potentially saving 1000 jobs is all that matters...interesting
In reply to nitro
Carrier stays: America great again!!
In reply to Ayenmol
1000 saved beats all jobs lost.
It is a small amount but it shows the Donald is a man of action.
The bigger question is what did he offer Carrier? No one is talking about that.
United Technologies is the parent Company of Carrier.
Who is United Technologies? A defense contractor. So Trump may have sweetened the deal by promising more defense contracts or more tax breaks that we do not know about.
Trust me carrier is not going t o bend that easily.
More to come before impeachment.
In reply to nitro
BS - he will be giving Carrier a massive taax break
In reply to embsallie
or is this the only level that Trump can operate on?
In reply to birdseye
Are you serious? At least the other stuff you mentioned is correct...although I doubt the US is losing out to Mexico because of Roads, Transportation and even Energy bills. Also the articles all mention it's their attempt to save $65 million in labor...65 mil that they will use to enrich those who are already swimming in cash.
In reply to SnoopDog
True...I wanted to clarify lest some smarty tried to say otherwise.
Was it Ghandi who said Religion is the opiate of the people?
This is precisely why I remind people not to judge the Bible based on how many has used it to dominate man. Now you see in the Western World at least this new mentality. Money. Work hard and you can have what we have...In fact Overwork...why do you think the Donald could scam so many with Trump University? The 1% knows the power of their status, and they thrive on it to continue to make themselves filthy Rich.
Which is why I despise Shark tank...but that's another story.
In reply to nitro
It is a small amount but it shows the Donald is a man of action.
Actually disappointed it took you that long to bring that argument...But as I said, Pence could and should have done that deal!!! Not the President.
You want action? See what Obama did to save the US Auto Industry...that is Presidential action...American cars have not seen leaps and bounds in design, handling and overall satisfaction since Henry ford made the Model T!
Trump wants credit for a State Level yawn job that ends with a few jobs saved that a mayor would be proud of.
In reply to Chrissy
Its such a joke to think that Trump can save jobs or make HAmerica great again. The lies are just amazing yet people eat it up..They are in for a rude awakening when things start going south.
People losing jobs to inventions and modernization is as old as time read below
The queen could understand the dynamics of modernization 500 years ago but these trumpites still cant get it and blame their plight on everything but reality oops reality tv isnt that where trump is a star ----oh well maybe it will catch up to them later ----
A former Irish workmate e-mailed me yesterday that people in Pennsylvania are saying it may take Trump a couple of months to bring back coal, steel and manufacturing to their community
In reply to birdseye
The man was not kidding when he said he loved the uneducated. I actually believe the man thought that was the best way to phrase it..what he really wanted to say is he loves stupid people.
I feel for these people, but man how unrealistic can you be?
Maybe when these jobs left the owners blamed it on Governmental interference and said they'd be back if restrictions are lifted. They must have really believed that.
P.s it's an Irish former workmate.

Further proof Obama cost Crooked Clinton in a former blue state.
In reply to nitro
Look I partially agree with what Obama said there regarding skilling up people, however you cannot just give up on your people like that.Like you said no wonder the people of Indiana didn't vote Dem this time around.
Even if he truly believed that all the jobs in that State would go away, couldn't he help the people in that area by facilitating to build fast track/skill development centers in Indiana ?
In reply to Ridge
Hope some of you don't get heart attack because of Trump
I cannot see the long-term positive effect that Trump will have on the lives of the average American especially with his protectionist bent which will mean China's influence in the two continents of economic growth (Asia & Africa) will increase more rapidly.
In reply to djdrastic
With a Republican controlled House and Senate crawling up his ass with a hot branding iron every moment they got?
Don't you see, even if Obama could have done better, he was hindered every which way by people who did not want him to succeed - The CONGRESS
Obama's mistake was refusing to go to the people and let them know what was going on. The messaging or lack thereof left a lot to be desired.
In reply to djdrastic
So in essence, President Pu$$yGrabber was blackmailed by Carrier to stay in the U.S. and A (for now) in exchange for keeping 800 jobs but letting go of another 1100 and receiving $7 million of tax dollars.
I can just see every corporation in the U.S. and A salivating at the thought of doing the same thing. Threaten to leave and then get Uncle Sam to cut you a fat cheque and then eventually leave.
But this scenario is a far cry from what Trump was saying during the campaign. I recall him stating explicitly that he will impose taxes, fines, and levies on companies who left and then tried to import their goods back to the U.S. So much for that.
If a democrat had done what Trump and Pence did with Carrier de right wing mouth pieces would be balling crony capitalism
In reply to Oilah
It's just another example of unbridled corporate welfare in Murica.
Socialism for the rich. It's as American as apple pie.
In reply to SnoopDog
Snoop I don't think you know the full story.
Carriers parent company United Technology has a lot of government contracts, and it more or less was implied to United that it would be an awful shame if those government contracts would go poof tomorrow.
I know it's not a popular opinion on here, but that was a pretty smart move by the Trump admin to use some strong tactics against them if they want to maintain their relationship.I know my country does something similar called Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment that forces companies that want government contracts to employ a certain percentage of previously disadvantaged South African born individuals.
It is of course total propaganda by the Trump admin to throw some shade on the Democrats especially after record low unemployment figures. But that is politics.
Btw.If the average worker bee made $20 dollars per hour and they kept 800 people in their positions
How much tax would Indiana siphon back in from taxes from these workers per year ?
Excluding stuff like Value added tax on goods and such.
In reply to djdrastic
If that were true then Trump had Carrier by the pu$$y. Why negotiate with them and even sweeten the pot with $7 mil in taxpayers money?
All he had to say was "leave and lose all those sweet gov't contracts. Dare me." That would have sent the message to all those companies planning to go offshore that this guy means what he said during the campaign.
Instead, all the companies who were planning to go offshore (and even those who didn't) are now licking their chops. They have Trump by the pu$$y. Carrier is a bad precedent my friend.
In reply to SnoopDog
I'm sure it was just an incentive for Carrier who would have supposedly been saving 65 Million USD per year moving their whole operation to Mexico.
It was a calculated PR stunt by the Trump admin to have him start his term strongly in the eyes of his supporters.
I don't foresee many Carrier type deals in the future however.Saving 800 odds jobs taking years of negotiations whilst Obama was creating mass amount of jobs doesn't really seem all that worthwhile.
Btw
In reply to djdrastic
That's exactly what this is. Nothing more, nothing less.
But this stunt will have consequences. I guarantee it. Why should other companies looking to go offshore not ask for, and get, a Carrier type deal? It's a slippery slope. Trump will be called out on this the moment he has to say "No" to another company looking for the same deal. Even Fox News are calling him out on this even before it gets to the stage where everyone is looking for corporate handouts.
One gets the disconcerting feeling that this is all a reality TV show for Trump. "On this week's episode of the Apprentice 'White House' edition, can President Trump's team outshine President Obama's team as they each battle to see who can save the most jobs".
In reply to djdrastic
White middle class America has a problem at the moment. Especially in those rust belt States. They want to live like their fathers and grandfathers before them. That is to say, they want a job with a $100K salary, 2 cars in the garage, and 3 vacations a year. All without a college education. Their fathers and grandfathers made a very good salary and enjoyed a good lifestyle whilst working in unskilled trades and vocations in factories and plants which were mostly unionized. They feel entitled to live like their parents and grandparents.
But the times were a changing. These jobs eventually became heavily automated and required skilled workers who could maintain computerized and technical equipment. One needs to have at minimum a diploma or some sort of post high school education to get these jobs. Add to the fact that the higher the credential and skilled required of the worker the higher the salary (especially so if unionized). Not so in other countries where companies can get away with paying skilled workers peanuts.
This general election saw the vast majority of Trump voters in the rust belt States were White non-college educated. Here was a guy who told them he was going to bring America back to the glory years of their parents and grandparents. That they didn't need to be educated or do anything to empower and improve themselves. That all their problems were not of their own but of others. It was sweet music to their ears. Easy answers to very complex problems.
Ironically, these were the same people who voted for Obama in 08 and 12. Obama's platform was taxing businesses making more than 200K and redistributing those dollars back into their communities and schools etc. But Middle America doesn't seem interested in schools or higher education. They are entitled to live like their forefathers without having to go to college.
Needless to say, America is fast gaining a reputation as an intellectual backwater. A nation of morons if you will. For me, the election of Trump only serves to confirm this most obvious of facts.
I must give Trump his due. Saving decent American jobs before he even takes office!
Those high school educated and less credentialed manufacturing workers struggle to make ends meet. It is a shame when the media makes a good story seem bad.
Oh, I almost I forgot, USA! USA! USA!
