Elquemedo Willett?

Nevis-born slow left-armer Elquemedo Willett was the first man from the Leeward Islands to play for West Indies when he made his debut as a 19-year-old against Australia in 1972-73.

If he were born in St. Lucia, he would've had a stadium named after him.

voiceofreason 2016-12-06 15:11:53

Jim Allen
Stuart Williams
Richie Richardson
Keith Arthurton
Viv Richards
Victor Eddy
Ridley Jacobs /Livingston Harris
Elquemendo Willett
Winston Benjamin
Andy Roberts
Curtley Ambrose

Ignatius Cadette is from St. Lucia and played for Windwards.

Morton's ineptitude vs Spin we cannot give him that middle order position. Luther Kelly was good but Jim Allen is notorious round these parts. Never seen him bat but older folks say he was better than VIV.

In reply to voiceofreason

yes...Jim ALLEN...thats the name I was searching for!

Morton ave 39.60 in FC cricket Eddy ave 35.64

Sorry can't see Willett holding play in front a superior alllrounder in Eldine Baptiste who played longside Marshall, Holding and co and who beats Willett statistically all around in FC and Tests.

Victor Eddy and Jim ALLEN can't come near Ralston Otto and Mortons FC ave of 39.60 beats them all and his test exposure.

Eddy averaged 35.64 at a time when West Indies FC cricket was at its peak. That weighs more than Morton. Also Morton did not face the quality of bowling Eddy faced. Eddy would have walked into West Indies Team today and probably would have averaged 40 plus at FC cricket if he were playing today.

I can give you Baptiste vs Willett but just thought that the team needed a quality offspinner.

This is a Leewards team, VOR is leaving it to Point, to pick the Windwards.
That will be fun.

Never seen him bat but older folks say he was better than VIV.

Permit me to put things in perspective. When a young, inexperienced Viv Richards first played for the Combined Islands - Vance Amory, Lockhart Sebastian, Jim Allen, Livingstone Sargeant, Irving Shillingford and Alfred Coriette were all considered better batsmen. But Viv kept getting better and better and as they say, the rest is history.

Dizzy 2016-12-07 05:06:40

The second best Antiguan batsman, and the King of Leeward Islands cricket will open the batting with Stuart Williams......................... Enoch Emmanuel Lewis!!!!!!!

Straight out of school Enoch got a job in the bank, and didn't sacrifice his job for cricket; literally he only played in games, no practice! Even whilst captain of Antigua, he would take a 6am flight to play 10am Leeward Islands tournament game and score hundreds at will.

Jim Allen MUST be in that that team.

Lewis
Williams
Allen
Richards
Arthurton
Jacobs
Parry
W. Bemjamin
Roberts
Ambrose
Willett

Baje 2016-12-07 09:45:44

How can Willet be ahead of parry or Guishard. Willett barely out anyone. For a short minute, parry and Guishard ran through people.

Tail seems too long. Need the extra batsman or bring in Baptiste for Willett/Parry. The former is the better option.

Kelly does NOT get in ahead of Jim Allen.

Yadi 2016-12-07 11:19:47

Ambrose & Roberts provide enough pace like fiyah ....

Therefore test class spinners: Willete, Parry & Cornwall (Two of these three) will complete the bowling

attack.

The thing is...Victor Eddy,Jim Allen and Otto are all my favorites but in trying to be objective their averages wasnt as high as Arthurton and Morton.

But I totally agree with your point my favorites had tougher opposition and would easily walk in a WI team of today.

In my original lineup I had Enoch Lewis and Livingstone Lawrence.

I think Enoch Lewis was very good, but look at my team and tell me who u can replace him with.

a lot of Antiguans in contention even though there names are not showing up. Omari Banks cannot make either team.
