Challenges for Jimmy (DOC)

doosra 2016-12-13 07:33:57

What are some of the most pressing issues that he's likely to face...

Getting politics, insularity and authoritative management out of the game.
He should thrash Pybus plan, and develop his own Blueprint.

Biggest challenge which, as a christian, he will not be able to overcome, is working for a gang of immoral, petty and corrupt bandits.

Allowing the time to turn the ting around..That would be his biggest challenge.

Narper 2016-12-13 08:52:52

Jimmy will go down the same path as all the others....in about two years he will be history...he goes voluntarily or they kick him...full of bitterness.

FuzzyWuzzy 2016-12-13 09:03:37

In reply to Narper

My take as well

Walco 2016-12-13 09:05:37

His biggest challenge will be rebuilding trust between the senior players and the West Indies cricket board. Actually, it's not just senior players, it's all players.

Pybus did well with Local Cricket
Jimmy's biggest challenge is the same as was 10 yrs ago

Winning the trust of players with the board and in doing some allow the WICB and WIPA to have a better relationship

FuzzyWuzzy 2016-12-13 09:44:07

You see that's the problem we have and why I agree with narper.

We are always looking for a messiah to turn around our cricket overnight as if by magic. When it doesn't happen that way out goes he...send in the nwxt victim.

Adams would be deluding himself if he accepted to undertake all those challenges outlined here...setting himself up for a fall. Ask any of his predecessors.

as a director of cricket more than a cricket coach he may be able to produce real change. Nuh so?

He is not the coach, so the stress that those before him had to endure he will not, my issues is how much of Tricky Dick is he going to bring along with him, and for how long......he has to chart his own course for cricket in the region, his problems will come if he walk bout with Dick pon his back for any length of time..........

Cricket. Why are fans not attending? Why are pitches still rubbish? Get the youth attending matches, try and find some sources of commercial funding, improving coverage of the games. Adams can help lifting cricket from the doldrums.

Facilities. One HPC in the Caribbean isn't nearly enough, alongside directors etc. Adams should be looking to secure funding to improve the current HPC and too also create another HPC or at least some sort of modern training and development facility.

Contracts. Giving 90 players domestic retainers was ambitious and did provide an opportunity for players to earn a living playing cricket. However, I would reduce the number of contracts per team to at most 10. The two draft picks per-side also gain a retainer due to having to relocate etc.

Development. Savings made should be put towards the next generation, 15 players under the age of 21 should be given scholarship/development contracts (if not already done) to encourage them to continue with their cricketing careers.

Relations between Board & Players. Tough for him not to get involved in, but Jimmy Adams is a man from the Caribbean who speaks from the heart when he talks about problems in the Caribbean and maybe he is the man who can improve relations all round.

That is like saying CARICOM should both get involved and also stay the fack out!!!

Khaga 2016-12-13 12:52:43

Padams will be another Yes man to Dave, just like Wavell has been and continues to be!

I quite like how Dave is bringing legend after legend on board and exposing their incompetence..

Kay 2016-12-13 13:06:43

What happens will depend a lot on the paycheck. As we have seen in the recent past West Indians are easily bought if the price is right.

See what happened to Simmons? He took the money then decided to play his own game ... he became history in a heartbeat

Selectors
WICB President

imusic 2016-12-13 17:26:38

What specific responsibilities does the Director of Cricket have? Anyone know?

doosra 2016-12-13 18:05:36

In reply to imusic

looking for a JD but some can be inferred

see pages 3 & 4

doosra 2016-12-13 18:07:12

oh here it is

There will be 4 key areas of focus:

Development of the Game: the Director of Cricket will be responsible for developing a comprehensive plan and supporting programmes to meet the WIBC's strategic short, medium and long term objectives for cricket development.

High Performance Management: this will include overseeing the development, implementation and management of the WICB's High Performance strategy in a number of areas including development in the pathways towards West Indies Men and Women's teams, sports science programmes, elite coaching programmes and elite trainig for match officials and curators.

Operations Delivery: the Director of Cricket will be required to build strong relationships with selectors, medical, WIPA, Umpires, ICC Match referees, WICB management team members to ensure effective and smooth operational management.

Strategic and Operational Planning: this will involve playing a key role in annual strategic planning and budget setting and leading & coordinating the implementation of the Cricket Department's short, medium and long term objectives.

Thanks doosra

This is interesting.

The WICB sets the strategic short, medium, and long term goals for cricket development. The director of cricket implements these goals.

Essentially, a rubber stamper.

Why you so.........If Dick did do what he was getting paid for, you and some like you would have ideas what the job entailed, instead he like you, turned into a pot spoon and dipped in things not under his purview......Good riddance.........lets hope that Jimmy doan walk bout wid he pon he back fuh nuh length of time cause it would really limit the time he has to get into his job.......he is the director of cricket and not a selector, so he better start moving round the region and getting acquainted with the various boards and set out a programme to take cricket bout this place to the next level..........cause wid dis crowd he may not get nuh time.....then again he is a homie.........

btw.....I see a certain place just hire a head coach and suh if he doan win fast he may find heself looking fuh a job in a hurry........you guh long......

One way of achieving this would be to establish an annualU-15 T20 Tournament, like the Little League World Series, that is broadcast on TV. This, in my opinion will inspire a lot of youngsters to be passionate about cricket.

Adams will neither get the authority or the time to make any meaningful change.
