Michael Holding pounding his toe...

Devin 2016-12-14 05:23:56

and the commentators seem to think it was great bowling. Question, did any one of those deliveries land halfway down the track, or were they all in Holding's quarter of the pitch?

Holding took all of 200 odd wickets in 60 tests..He largely avoided the subcontinent, plying his trade in England and Australia..He got vexed in NZ and kicked the stumps...

Thanks, where did those deliveries land?

Devin 2016-12-14 11:55:54

In reply to natty_forever

Do they look like deliveries that would cause any trouble in today's game? Did the deliveries land in his quarter of the pitch, yes or no?

Devin 2016-12-14 11:58:36

In reply to Khaga

200 from 60? Extremely pedestrian numbers, just like his bowling.

Holding took 30 wickets in a series in India at a cost of 22.10 and helped the West Indies win the series 3-0.

In a series..Ambrose didn't play even one series..Garner probably didn't too..Marshall played 2 and was murdered in his first!

Very pedestrian for someone who is touted among the greats.

Can the West Indians on this thread answer the fu#king question. Was Holding banging the ball in his quarter of the pitch, and would those deliveries trouble any batsman worth a grain of salt in today's game?

Devin 2016-12-14 12:23:40

In reply to Khaga

Parthiv Patel and Jayant Yadav would've retired Holding.

Khaga 2016-12-14 12:27:16

He should go to see how well his fellow West Indians are doing. It's the only time he'll be able to smile about the current state of affairs in Waste Indies cricket.

In a series of posts you come across as DISHONEST.I strongly suspect that you knowingly distort facts, leave out context and deliberately give incomplete information which leave an impression that is erroneous.

1.Holding took 200 wickets in 60 tests. This is a dishonest statement but not a lie. He actually took 249 wickets, which can be rounded down to 200.I suppose 251 wickets could be rounded up to 300.

2.Marshall was murdered in 1 of 2 series in India is true but you know exactly the context of that series. It was a West Indies THIRD ELEVEN with approximately 16 of their top players missing. This resulted in Marshall at age 20 with all of a single first class match under his belt being selected to represent the West Indies against a full strength Indian team.
You skillfully omit that Marshall in 1983-84 IN INDIA destroyed the confidence of your DEMI-GOD Gavaskar forcing him to bat at # 4 because of loss of confidence. We both know exactly how that went down and it is GRAPHICALLY DESCRIBED in HOLDING'S book what took place in that series.

You guys can not help yourself and stick to facts and honest appraisals, you feel compelled to lie and distort in order to place your heroes on pedestals. One does not need to tear other people down in order to lift up your heroes.

You and your ilk want to use macabre descriptions to gloat over the prowess of your fast bowlers. When others come along and scrutinize them for their use of brutal force and savage intimidation, you play the race card and whinge about how the world is against you and how they changed the rules.

And today there are no cowards for the Waste Indies to intimidate, which explains their 20-year plight. The one card they could play has been stripped.

Did he not get wickets in that game, with the short deliveries?
Are you telling us, that Holding banged the balls thru-out his career?
Why not show the over he bowled to Boycott at Kensington?

Khaga 2016-12-14 14:04:33

WI bowlers have relied on disproportionate amount of bouncers compared to say Pakistan bowlers.

Where were they passing the batsman is the question that should be asked.

Larr Pullo 2016-12-14 14:07:03

If a ball passes the batsman at chest height is that a bouncer, yah dingbat?

Khaga 2016-12-14 14:08:56

In reply to Larr Pullo

Don't get caught up in the trivial terminology. Your bowlers were relying on intimidation..For someone bowling at that pace (allegedly), your guys didn't have a clue about reverse swing..

They had the pace and were at war, unlike Roach who seem not to want to get into a batsman's face.
Bro, Pakistan had two great fastbowlers at the time, with a number of spinners.
The four prong bowled fast and used the bouncer as a weapon.

Devin 2016-12-14 14:18:28

In reply to Larr Pullo

If I'm pounding the ball in my quarter of the pitch, where would it pass? A batsman is supposed to be able to pick up length, that would be the easiest length to pick up.

Did you see the video I posted of the world's fastest bowlers being timed back in the 70's or 80's? You saw the shite Holding and Roberts were bowling? They didn't have the sense to know that their speeds would be faster if they pitched their deliveries closer to the stumps rather than bowling loopy bouncers that landed a foot in front of their own shoes.

Are you relying on one video clip to compare Holding to the world fastest bowlers?
BTW, where was that clip taken, and was the world's fastest bowlers clip, taken on the same pitch?
We like what we like, and can used any stat, to get our nonsense across to others.
My XI - Geoffrey Boycott: Michael Holding - 'The fastest, and then some'

You prefer hearing from a man who claims that his mother could bat better than half of the players he's seen?

Kohli has 5 more tons than Lara did at the same stage of their careers. I'm almost certain that Lara batted more as well.

9 of Kohli's 15 tons have come away from home.

Kohli has more centuries in Australia and has played 11 fewer matches.

He averages 20 runs more per innings down under than Lara.

Who do you rate higher at the same stage?

Baje 2016-12-14 14:41:03

Devin why dnt you get the 1976 tape of Holding in that 5th test at the Oval, full, fast, and movement on the flattest of all tracks.

Dude it make absolutely no sense comparing 52 test to 131 test, especially a batsman finishing his test career with a 52.88 average.
Hopefully 5-10 years from now, over a bottle of single malt, we can compare the two players.

According to the posters here, helmet-less batsmen are greater than helmeted ones..

Extending that logic, batsmen who played without the abdominal guard are even greater..

Abacus is greater than even the modern day super computers..

Ultimately, why the fcuk did the human race evolve in the first place?

I caught you in a bind. Earlier you asked if we're comparing them at the same stage, or if we're using all of Lara's career. I showed you some stats that overwhelmingly favour Virat, and now you say that it makes no sense to compare.

To be honest, I don't care to compare. In sports and in life, each era has its greats. The reason I choose to compare is because many of you are threatened by his success, amongst others, so you aim to discredit or compare to your greats of the 70's and 80's.
