This is a bad law for the CARICOM- hope Barack vetoes it.

It will further allow the US to treat the region as ist puppy dog. It will prevent other powers like China from investing as they now do.

Legislation like FACTA will become more commonplace- virtually giving the IRS defacto control of tax litigation is a big part of it. In return, the region gets nothing- can anyone see a CARICOM member prosecuting a random US person for tax evasion?

US has sent people back right here to face justice for several crimes, they do stick to agreements with us,but by all means I understand your angle, but it can be mutually beneficial, and as a Trini I know we always on top of workings and systems where we stand to benefit, big business and travel especially, and we're not afraid to make suggestions to influence the designs or outcomes in our national interest,we see ourselves as partners with big countries and not subservient charity cases.

In the Americas it's US,Canada and Caribbean in that order and T&T's position has a lot to do with that..believe it or not.

I can tell you the richest of Trinis- those who own the largest corporations and land holdings- have their money in the US and other jurisdictions- A Foreign exchange triangle- sucking the wealth out of trinidad.

If the law will help Trinidad to get these guys then I am all for it, but so far, all we see is the usa going after the little TT assets of dual citizens- those who still have a little something in Trinidad.

Look, I know US citizens whose spouses are not US persons, yet the IRS is forcing the US citizen the turn over financial information on the spouse.

To protect its citizens, TT govt must make sure FACTA legislation address this.
