Permaul would be a better ODI pick than Benn. However, can't see him causing much trouble in test matches. Permaul good with the bat too, can run better than Benn, what more I need to say....

I would be confident if I saw Permaul walking to the wicket with 14 runs to make in 2 overs in a 50 overs match - even if Holder is at the other end.

You see that is the problem right there.
You would never know for sure if you don't give the guy a real run.
Same thing has happened with Miller.
Many ...including the selectors for a few years after he was already named Emerging cricketer of the year by ICC....believed Bishoo can't get wickets in tests either...he got a lLUCKY break AGAIN... and he has been proving ...AGAIN...he could take wickets in tests
The dumbass selectors ...believe Benn can take wickets...select him for years....we know he can't take wickets in tests....his stats show this....but he did get a long run...so why persist with him....I won't be surprised if Brung select Benn again

That's people, I never wrote off Bishoo. People who don't understand spin bowling won't understand Bishoo.
Permaul doesn't switch between overspin and side spin, any bowler who cannot alternate will find it hard at test cricket. Yo ever wonder why Permaul struggle to spin the ball on good wickets? Pure side spinners. Need to use more over spin on decent wickets. Watch Ravi Ashwin, he knows the art and physics of spin bowling. Graeme Swann did it excellently.
Miller in the same boat, can't spin the ball on good wickets, no mystery variations. Would be ordinary at the test level. Nonetheless, there is still merit that you won't know unless you've been tried. Can't deny that one.

With Dowlin joining the WI Selectors team maybe it could work out well for Permaul, at this time most spinners in the WI are better than Benn.

Both guys are worthy of a place in one of the WI teams, I am no discounting them, but at this time Benn should not be playing for the WI, he has lost his Mojo.
