at the end of the domestic competition, should he be selected for the West Indies Test team?
If he isn't, would he have a legitimate gripe about this being a case of age discrimination?

If Shiv is one of the three leading batsmen...
In reply to Devin
I watched Shiv bat today for his entire stay at the crease until end of play...even though it was a one camera video coverage...and regardless how potent the bowling was....I saw Shiv bat like a man 10 years younger than his age....he was moving down to wicket to play the spinners....he was driving...cutting..a very positive Shiv....taking singles...stealing singles....and obviously guiding his team mates....effortless 141*
If Shiv unretires and says he is available for selection...I would select him for test cricket...and I would be confident he would be ready for test cricket.
In reply to Narper
I totally concur with you, The Shiv should be reselected!
In reply to Narper
He's still good enough to score centuries against all the Test teams out there. This guy is something else.
I wish he would've expressed himself as a batsman instead of batting like he had the world on his shoulders. You saw it when he made that 69 ball hundred. I know that knock was an anomaly, but I also know that when Shiv is in the mood, he'll take you to the cleaners. He has all the shots in the book.
It's a pity he spent the overwhelming majority of his career in a shit side where almost every knock required him to rescue a pack of shitheads.

The first bad patch in more than a decade...Shiv didn't know how to handle it...his mind became cluttered...and it seemed he was incapable of getting out of that patch....but Shiv still believed in himself...and asked for two more tests.....but de heartless bastards couldn't give the guy two tests to end his career.....they promptly with obscene haste dropped him...with such arrogance.....payback karma was swift for Phil...where is he today?
Shiv is now batting with an uncluttered mind....he is fluent again...I believe he is ready again....give him his two tests....as they say....age is just a number.

Agreed. Well said.

Agreed

The Shivster not getting old it seems, thought he was done with when he was forced out cause it was the ugliest i've seen Shiv bat was then. The most versatile batsman i've seen is shiv. Will bat defensively but when he been ready to turn up the heat, man, he was good. And them days T20 didn't exist as yet....
One thing i'm sad we didn't see a lot of is Shiv as an opener in ODI cricket, he and Gayle was a brilliant combo, that should have never changed!
In reply to jen
Amen.
Sars at 3 Lara 4
That should have been a champion ODI team
Wait.. Wasn't it

You remember when Shiv and Gayle put on 150+ run partnership against South Africa in India?
Shiv got down on one knee and swept Nel for SIX over fine leg. One of the best shots I've ever seen. And judging by the expressions on the faces of the South Africans, it was one of the best shots they'd ever seen as well.

Don't fall in that trap by the Shivities, they believe that when the Shiv finishes they will not have another of their to support, all great batsmen when their career at the international level is done will still dominate FC.
Everton and Clyde retired at 32 and 31 respectively in 57, they were the 2 of the best at test cricket, in fact Weekes scored over 500 in his last series. Desmond dominated regionals after he was dropped.

Sometimes you need to let balls alone.
At Shiv's age, he should be having fun and making money like Gayle, Warne and others.

What is the point you are trying to make? Me think this thread is about now and present performance
If he's the top run scorer then the selectors have a headache to deal with.
They'll be hoping he either picks up a niggling injury or someone else makes a barrel load of runs.
How was Shiv dropped and we continued to select people who were performing no better, and never had the history of performance. It is not like we had these game changers waiting to take his place.

What kind of money can Shiv make as a cricketer? He has no T20 value.
In reply to Devin
No...
He can't just get top 3. he has to be miles ahead of the others.
Picking back shiv in the WI team will be short sighted since at most he can give probably 2 or 3 years.
In that time we can surely work on an existing player or someone who show potential this year in the team to benefit us for much more than 2 to 3 years.
The only scenario i can see shiv scoring boatloads of runs resulting in selection is if they say because of that they will pick him back for a proper retirement series. That would even be a stretch knowing what we know of the men in charge.

Shiv wants 2 test matches to break Lara record...that is all de man want. That was all he asked Big PU-C and big belly Phil for....
In reply to Narper
Lol i would definitely not pick that selfish phuch for that then!
On a serious note with the door looking mostly closed on Samules there is some room in the batting for a bit of experience. Thats the last piece of reasoning i can see for shiv's return...
In reply to matchstick
ALL batsmen think about records....ALL
Personal milestones is what keep players going
They may mouth differently...
Batsmen must have a selfish streak...otherwise they are of no use to a team.....personal runs always go to the team
In reply to Narper
Does he want to go back? Has he not implied that his participation in domestic cricket is to give back to Guyana cricket?
In reply to Narper
Man is selfish as per Adam Smith
In reply to Narper
Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Management should very much encourage that... AS LONG as it fits into the team objectives.
Misbah ul Shiv?
In reply to Brucie
Shiv Ul Haq
In reply to Narper
Nah, he's definitely not built like Inzy!
In reply to Narper
there are only two possible scenarios, one is that Shiv is back at the top of his game as you pointed out, and deserves another chance. OR the level of cricket in WI has dropped so bad that even the out of form, lethargic can still kick ass!
either way, Shiv is knocking on the door.
In reply to googley
If Shiv is an "out of form lethargic" then what are the other "batsmen" in the Caribbean?
