Former Jamaica cricketer and captain of the national senior team Tamar Lambert, who was recently declared the 12th recipient of the prestigious Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence, is heading to Australia to start a new chapter in his professional cricket career.
The all-rounder, who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off spin, is all set to join the Golden Point Cricket Club in the Ballarat Cricket Association League in Melbourne.
The 35-year-old Lambert said that he is at the moment being held up by the visa application process, but should soon be on his way to Australia.
Tamar Lambert is going to Australia to play in their premier cricket tournament, which is next to their first-class cricket tournament. Plus I am going there and see if I can finalise on some coaching courses as well.
Well, at the moment I am held up by the visa process, but as soon as that is sorted out I will be on my to Australia. I am really excited about this opportunity and I am going to make full use of it. Opportunity only comes once in a lifetime, and this is my time, Lambert told the Jamaica Observer.
Lambert is by far Jamaicas most successful captain, having led the team to an unprecedented five consecutive triumphs in the regional four-day championship from 2008 to 2012. He also captained Jamaica to six four-day regional titles. Lambert also led Jamaica to two regional Super 50 titles (2007 and 2011) as well as two play-off shields.

Good for him. I love it.

Ole news but I'm very happy for him - OZ knows good cricketers and Tamar has excelled from school days.

I am really elated for him, you just can't keep a good man down. The guy wasn't given a fair opportunity by WICB with all his talent, especially been the best captain in the region for some time.

True, He should get it over Sammy at that time(nothing against Sammy)

Another missed opportunity by WICB, however we wish Lambert every success in his professional endeavours!

I was commenting earlier this month that cricketers like Lambert missed out on the retainers that 105 Regional cricketers are now enjoying. No matter how much I disagree with the WICB I have to recognise that is a benefit which - for a young man trying to perfect his art - cannot be underestimated.
If Lambert was sure that he could see USD 2,000 in his bank account every month during the last 8-10 years he probably would have dedicated more time to cricket and produced the matching results.
I have no time for folks who believe that inspiration and patriotism are what it takes to produce good cricketers.

Lambert did produce the goods as evidenced by the number of regional titles (5 consecutive years) he helped JA to win and he was a leader who led from the front. Of course I agree with you that he could have put up a more consistent individual performance but when one considers that Sammy was Captain there was a glaring double standards in retrospect, to be honest not many players were consistent either!
Big up to the big man ......
