Guyana, EXXON and oil production
In reply to Curtis
The Stabroek block currently comprises 6.6 million acres (26,800 square kilometers). Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited is the operator and holds a 45 percent interest in the Stabroek block. Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd. holds a 30 percent interest, and CNOOC Nexen Petroleum Guyana Limited holds a 25 percent interest.
How much d Guyanese people hold? Katahar?
In reply to Curtis
I hope this money is converted to USEFUL, PRODUCTIVE investments to benefit the guyanese people.
Rain falling and GT is flooded, I thought those days were long over

Nice I cannot wait!! Have some nice spin-off projects planned including new highways and housing,T&T has a keen eye on Guyana and has been aligned with this venture from inception with the provision of expertise, equipment and various services, including exploration and production design and management..
A stronger Guyana and Jamaica = a stronger T&T!!
Can't wait to hear dem sweet GT ladies MOAN "haRRdeRR" lol j/k...hahahaha
In reply to Runs
I asked this same questions twice before and none of the experts on the Guyanese economy answering.
I guess the small men like supply vendors who replenish stocks and supplies to crew offshore will be making some money..... who else?
In reply to Kay
This will have nil to negligible DIRECT effects on the economy by way of jobs etc for the guyanese people, however when they start spending the profits...
In reply to Kay
That is the venture to get into
In reply to steveo
Wishful thinking.
Guyanese people not getting any benefit from this
if ever this comes through.
Only the elite few in the Government will benefit.
In reply to Curtis
Good thing the PPP pave the way for this to happen ...

The distribution of economic opportunity... not so much

At least lessen the macroeconomic disadvantages...
* Bridge the essiquibo (they said they were considering this)
* Maybe a second demerara bridge
* 2nd deepwater harbor at the berbice river
* make the airport a first class one
* Construct a hydropower plant
These investments should see guyana in good stead

maybe Jagdeo didn't clean the drains again? I know he used to get cuss

The city is 6 feet below sea level at high tide and with heavy rains will take a feat of genius engineering to get rid of all that water in a jiffy. Commonsense tells me it is not possible but they can be better prepared and build the housing and infrastructure to withstand.
In reply to Runs
for sure...didn't think it rained that much in December
In reply to Curtis
The entire coastland is flooded
In reply to steveo
Sadly, like you I am not particularly optimistic as this current administration while not quite as skilled in thieving as the previous one is trying hard to match them.
In reply to Curtis
My suggestion is to build a deep reservoir on the outskirts of the city as a back up
In reply to Runs
Land of Many Waters indeed
is current day flooding due to rising sea levels and global warming or mal-functioning drainage? that base infrastructure is quite old
