Who was the fittest WI fast bowler (70s-90s)?
In reply to Narper
Croft.
Croft

27 tests only...and if my memory serves me right....he was injured and recovering when he joined the rebels to South Africa
In reply to Narper
Yes Cuddy the fittest ever. Hardly missed a test match cos of injury and once bowled a spell to the then England skipper Atherson at Sabina Park of serious sustained pace for over 15 overs. A whole session.
What does the lead poster mean by fittest?
The fast bowler who could pass all the fitness tests with high marks?
The one who was the least injured?
The one who could bowl the most overs on the trot?
I would say Walsh was the most durable....but that doesn't necessarily mean he was the fittest
Depends on your definition

guy who could bowl 22 overs unchanged.

Fair question.
This poster means the fast bowler with least amount of injuries which prevented the bowler from playing.
The fittest bowler I can think of is TINO BEST but he started in 2003.
I would have to give it to Walsh for durability and ability to bowl long sustained spells.

for all times - Wes

Back injury, I think. Does not necessary result of fitness, more from his bowling action. 27 test in what, 6 years? Also world series cricket took some years away from playing test. Another thing to consider is countie cricket.
But Walshy was fit too. he use to bowl long spell.
In reply to Narper
Walsh would be right at the top IMO
Also under consideration would be Joel Garner and Wes Hall.
Would you consider Vanburn Holder, Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy fast bowlers? I wouldn't...but they were certainly quite durable with few injuries.
In reply to imusic
some good choices there.

mikey
In reply to jcveletta
naah....my memory tells me mikey was injured more than a few times...i think he had a bad knee
andy roberts was a very strong man....he credits that to running miles after miles in training
croft usually boast about the many miles he ran daily

On air...once...I heard Croft ( or was it Faoud Bacchus who said it?) said the two of them alone ....would be in the nets whole day....Croft bowling to Bacchus....at the same time he ( or Bacchus) was saying how current WI fast bowlers fraid de sun...dem want shelter....sun too hot
Dem bhais didn't have gyms like today....but they trained hard...de ole fashion way
Croft used to bowl full speed all day...every day. Never saw a bowler bowl such long spells with sustained pace over several test matches
Darren Powell
He was fit and could bowl long spells at full speed.
Another guy who could bowl long spells was: Fidel Edwards.

I will go with Wes Hall. check the last day of the tied test.
In reply to methodic
I think that series was 8 balls an over
In reply to tc1
exactly, and I think he bowled 55 overs in the last innings or some some crazy thing like that. In the closing overs of the days play, Wes was still hitting batsmen in their ribs.
In reply to Narper
Crofty. Saw comacho bowl croft all day in a region match
