Was it Roy Gilchrist, Holding, Roberts, Patterson, Hall, Griffiths, Croft, Martindale, Ambrose, Marshall or someone else? Someone who has seen most of them... which one had the sheer pace to top the list?

Sheer pace ... the fastest of our bowlers?

In reply to Kay
They also believe he disappeared because he never recovered from the way he was treated by the West Indies Cricket Board.
Consistent high speed maybe Patto, Holding, Hall, Fidel...but there are guys who at certain times can produce extreme pace in a particular spell. For example Sylvester, Wayne Daniel, Roberts, Macco. Can't speak about Griffith or Gilchrist but the word on de street is that dey was real fast too.
Remember one day at Kensington Wayne Phillips square cut Garner for six. For de next couple of overs Big Bird was flying just as fast as anything Holding could send down...he hit Phillips about two or three times in de chest. When fast bowlers get pissed they can really crank up the velocity
In reply to Oilah
in 1968 when England toured the WI Sobers was bowling faster than Hall or Griffith, both were carrying injuries or at the tail of their careers, the G-man had some real pace.

And thats the difference between Kemar, and other fast bowlers.
He seem so passive, not wanting to move the batsman head back, I for one would like to see him bowl a few bouncers
In reply to navindesigns
This is the same institution, with the same M.O and structure that fans want cricketers to pledge allegiance to..wtf are the players?
Stupid or blind??
In reply to openning
Roach was quite hostile when he first came on the scene. He had some ding dong battles with Ponting in particular. Kemar is working his way back
In reply to tc1
Funny you say that...my father told me that Sobers could bowl a delivery as fast as Hall and Griffith but not consistently.
In reply to openning
Roach short, even when he was cranking it up real quick, his fuller deliveries was always the wicket takers. Seen Watson creme some serious pull shot in Roach rass when he was hitting 150KPH.
Bishop
In reply to Oilah
Your father is correct!!!!
In reply to navindesigns
How did the Board treat him?
I think the young Ian Bishop before the back injury
In reply to Raggs
I never really saw much of the pre injury Bishop...I rememember around 1990 there was a low scoring test series Pakistan v Windies in Pakistan... Wasim and Waqar were the pace bowlers for Pakistan and Ambrose, Walsh and Bishop were the pace attack for Windies.... At that time Wasim and Waqar were very quick but Pakistan captain Imran Khan was of the opinion that Bishop was quickest bowler in that series.... he must have been very quick indeed.
Croft was quick
Holding
In reply to Runs
When he could be bothered he was.... very quick !

In reply to jcveletta
True promising bowler he was
Patterson Thompson was reputed to be really fast. Was he?
SAW THIS ON YOUTUBE
Sylvester Clarke
I would say Michael Holding in general would be considered to be the fastest we ever produced. why? Reel footage and being the quickest in our era of greatest helps him to the title. The greats against us always gives him that title. Boycott/Imran Khan/ Botham all said he was.
But I saw Ian Bishop on debut and it would take something truly special to be quicker than that.
In reply to Raggs
On his first tour to england, Bishop was bowling 90 plus mph leg breaks. Commentators, not to mention the opposition, were flabbergasted
ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS SPELL VS ROBIN SMITH
Nasty stuff from Bish & Walsh. Not very Christian of Bish

SO WHAT'S NEW ? THE MODUS OPERANDI
HAS NOT CHANGED .
Unless there is a Complete restructuring of the Regional Boards
and the Worst International Cricket
Board in the Commonwealth , aka the
WICBC .
There is not going to be any change
in the way the WICBC conducts
its Maladministration of Cricket in
the Region .Unless the Regional Governments put the Members of the
WICBC in a Law Court .
Hell , the WICBC is operating with a Structure that is 87 Freaking Years OLD ; and the people in the WICBC have absolutely no intention of giving up their Security Blanket ,the
current Structure .
In reply to Oilah
Yes, indeed, Gary was very quick

In reply to tc1
Ambrose gotz called for pelting dem call Bish tuh???
There was a guy from Antigua name Vaughn "Hungry" Walsh. He could bowl a heavy ball. His arms were very long.
castro not a ridiculous shout - remember him bowling upto 95mph in SA.
roy guilchrist - half man and such a mindset could make you pretty quick to release the ball with the intention to explode at the other end of the wicket.
In reply to Raggs
Fastest I saw were
Patto
Croft
Bish

Blinding spells of pace!
He was very very fast as a teenager - in domestic cricket his avg was very good with many 5fers, 6fers, 7fers - ending with a Domestic bowling avg of about 16 runs per wicket.
Pace like fire.... then total and complete disaster/inaccuracy at Test cricket level. Also he had fitness issues which may have altered his path...
Nice guy. pilot.
In reply to pelon
Thanks
Wayne Daniel used to have men runnin at U19 level. He was seriously quick and MEAN
Even MEANER and sneaky fast was Sylvester Clarke. Not much of a run up but DAMN....that ball would explode.
Winston Davis when he first came on the scene was fairly rapid as well. Sad about his injury
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the slowest west indian "fast bowlers"
I think Cameron Cuffy took the cake here. Jason Holder in the convo. As is Dwight Washington
In reply to Bigzinc
Patto
Croft
Bish
In reply to pelon
Yes Patterson Thompson as a schoolboy was frighteningly quick. I remember seeing him in the nets for I think it was combined schools at Harrison College. Maybe the fastest bowling I ever saw from a high school boy. Patterson is also a very nice guy.
In reply to imusic... he became a Christian after.
In reply to imusic
Dat was the second coming of Cuffy. He was seriously fast a la Nixon McLean.
De Dentist Maynard got his name from rearranging a few mouths
In reply to Maispwi
Thanks. Wasn't aware of the initial item. Only remembered Cuffy as slow but extremely economical. A good foil for Merv Dillon.
The 2 of them had the misfortune of rebuilding the WI fast bowling corps practically on their own after then retirement of Ambrose and Walsh. Proved too much of an ask with no one really to guide them.
I also heard about the Dentist but never saw him in action.
BTW.....Shannon Gabriel is also pretty sharp. Jermaine Lawson was also quite quick as well. Frighten a few Aussies in the Caribbean
In reply to imusic
Cuffy was quick before his injury...same could be said of corey
washy and jason were always slow
Jeffrey Dujon, who would have seen many of those in the discussion up close, has told me that Patrick Patterson was "the fastest bowler he ever kept to in his entire career".....
I respect his opinion..
Perhaps a (new) thread should be made about our "best" or "most economical" or "most lethal" fast bowlers.
Tony Gray would definitely make this list. He was touted as the "new" Joel Gardner. He was extremely tall, rangy, and posted ridiculously economical numbers for a fast bowler. Unfortunately, his career was short due to numerous injuries but his impact was never forgotten.
Very good article about Tony Gray
In reply to DukeStreet
Unlucky was certainly Tony Gray. I do remember him making quite an impact at Surrey County team.
Manny Martindale.
Google can't help unnu with his actual speed.
But consider this referenced ole timer tale.
One of his rockets took an Englishman's cap in tow all the way to the thirdman boundary.
BTW... Those were the old time heavy felt caps that didn't fall off in every little breeze.
In reply to Tagwa1
the English embellish everything English!
In reply to camos
Well they also would have diminished in this case.
Manny was Barbadian?
The ole timer...also Bajan.
Martindale was Barbadian.
Next time you see de ole timer (if still alive) ask him about Foffie, another Bajan fastbowler.
When I was small I asked my grandparents who was our fastest bowler ever and the reply was Manny Martindale so for me as a child he WAS the fastest
Just checked his test stats...10 matches 37 wickets at 21.72 with a strike rate of 43.3...VERY impressive
