Possible List A teams for Jan 24?

analyst-kid 2016-12-31 09:35:03

Barbados;

Smith
Brathwaite
Hope
Brooks
Carter
Dowrich
Holder
Brathwaite
Williams/Warrican/Benn
Nurse
Roach/Cummins

Greaves and Stoute are useful allrounders but methinks Jason and Carlos will block them out....and then remember Carter and Smith can bowl too.

Are you picking a team from the names you know or by updated fact?

Smith played List A earlier this year. He also announced his desire to play again recently.

You really expect them to check domestic performances for guys who just played ODIs?

analyst-kid 2016-12-31 15:22:19

look at the Bajan bowling figures against Jamaica...you see de licks Holder and Brathwaite took as against Nurse,Warrican,Benn and Kraigg...reminds you of that match vs Zim doesn't it?

This is a Barbados team base on performance from the Sagicor Cup.
There is a reason for selecting guys to trials.
As you not have notice with the thirty or so guys selected, Kraigg, Jason and Carlos are not in the first two trials, they should get some practice in the second round of trials.
You will see Chase turning out for Barbados, after having the second best batting average in the tournament.
BTW, is CCC having trials, and is Springer and Holder included?

Fix the link it is not opening

Here is Barbados batting stats last regional 50 ovrs competition
DR Smith 8 8 0 116 86 14.50 74.83 0 1 4 l
Smith average of 14.50 from eight innings, and his highest score of 86 from a total of 116, the next seven innings his total was 30 runs, with an ave of 4.28, man you are a joker lol lol

Link fixed.

Ok I understand your point...but for a guy who just played and performed in ODIs for WI...his appearance in the trials is just to get practice but he is an automatic starter.

Brathwaite,Hope,Carter,Dowrich and Nurse along with Holder and Carlos are ALL automatic starters...the avgs and trial performances would come into play for Brooks,Chase,Williams,Stoute,Roach,Cummins,Benn and Smith.

And in the case of Benn and Smith it is merely to ascertain if they are fit.

So that leaves TWO places really up for grabs.

Smith will play in the CPL, thats where he belong, Chase ahead of Brooks
I really don't see Carter making it at the International level, in any format

with the exception of Smith, your team looks correct to me.I see Corbin as the opener to Smith and add Welcome to the team as a hard-hitting leftie.

Shane Parris is the only batsman that performed very good that was not on the team last year, Brooks dominated the OD 2 years ago.

Bro, history must have been your top subject?
Guys life Oval and Fuzzy have been discussing a number of these players since their U-19 days, it took Brooks a number of years to score runs for Spartan, and I remember him having his only century in 3 yrs after U-19, in a Tape ball match.
He has come back strong, the last couple of years, but any one looking at the two, will see Chase is ahead.
Shane Parris, like the other Parris at Maple, don't seem to be hungry enough, if the two had to fight for selection at Maple, I am quite sure they would have produced more.
That was the difference in making any of the 1st Division teams, when I was growing up.
A number of Intermediate players, found it hard to get into the 1st Division, because of the competition within the clubs, nowadays if your are a good U-19 player, you can play until you feel like quitting.

[quote]If as expected all nine players who were in the West Indies squad for the Tri-nation One-Day International series in Zimbabwe a couple months ago are selected, it means only five other places are up for grabs.

Those nine were captain Jason Holder, fellow fast bowling all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite, wicket-keeper/batsmen Shai Hope and Shane Dowrich, middle order batting all-rounder Jonathan Carter, left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn, off-spinner Ashley Nurse and pacer Miguel Cummins.

Now, Edwards will be in contention with left-hander Anthony Alleyne for an opening position.

And if you add Roach, along with West Indies Test batting all-rounder Roston Chase, who bowls off-spin, middle order batsman Brooks, who is the West Indies 'A' team first-class captain, and Stoute, who brings value with his medium-pace bowling and has captained Barbados Pride in both one-day and four-day matches in the past two seasons, the selectors could very well start to scratch their heads after all when they meet on Friday, January 6 to pick the squad.

1Dilemma for selectors

analyst-kid 2017-01-05 18:29:56

Edwards
Brathwaite
Hope
Brooks
Carter
Dowrich
Holder/Chase/Greaves
Stoute
Warrican/Benn
Nurse
Roach

analyst-kid 2017-01-05 18:34:08

it all comes down to Kensington. Roach/Holder/Benn/Nurse/Stoute might be the favored bowling attack here.

The selectors will go for the more experienced bowlers.

The nine players from the Tri Nation tour are;
Brathwaite
Hope
Carter
Dowrich
Holder
Nurse
Benn
Cummins
C. Brathwaite going to BB

Will the selector omit Cummins from this squad, after being selected by the WICB?

analyst-kid 2017-01-05 19:07:59

but where is Cummins? He didn't join the four day team nor the trials.

A number of players were given the time off, after the Pakistan and Tri Nation tour.
Bishoo, Gabriel or Jason did not play, and Kraigg was asked to rest, after playing against Guyana

analyst-kid 2017-01-06 01:33:42

..but Cummins hardly played in that Tri Nation series except for the last match...so why should he be rested?

Reports state that the team will be selected today after the trials, i still dont know who will partner Kraigg,, the power hitters down the middle or the bowlers to accompany Holder, Roach, Nurse and Been.
