Bim's newest political party headed by a Cawmerian, Grenville Philips, a good lad but not the type of personality one would associate with being a politician.
it seems as though i will have to volunteer my services. i know Grenville very well but have not seen him in ages.
it is a weird name for political party and a name change will be the first order of business.
the next thing should be a party constitution which should be short and sweet- speaking to a general fairness across all spectrum of administration
the party should try to recruit people from the racial and social make up of Bim- it is high time white and indians bajans get involved in Bim political life
speak to what the party hope to achieve if elected, in every day language

Powen- How about Solutions Barbados?
In reply to sudden
As is the case elsewhere there's no room for a third party. ..unless one of the existing two dies. ..in which case it then becomes the second party.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
i know this, mate. but you never know, do you. DLP was born from the BLP and it succeeded up to this point but Philips is no Barrow
In reply to sudden
Run Sudden run.
Bajans would love their new Bajan/Czech First Lady.
In reply to black
Too much drama. Keep he and Devin away from Bim.

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
be careful. i could revoke your ability to play on those courts, you know
In reply to sudden
They are not the only courts in bim
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
ok. just keep that in mind
In reply to sudden
Grenville aint getting anywhere with that folly about Business persons only and employing 10 or more people.
I like Grenville but as always Grenville is too myopic.
Freundel is still way ahead of everyone else in the history of Barbados since 1627 to be the worst leader of all time.
yall should celebrate.
In reply to powen001
yeah that is an odd stipulation. it isnt like every problem has a business solution.
BTW you see how we Cawmerians does solve we own problem? the group that inspected Cawmere and solved the issue were all Cawmerians
In reply to sudden
I suspect it was Cawmerians who fcuked up in the first place. Lol

that would be fight of the shortmen at Moontown
In reply to sudden
not in my nature...there are so many posts of people cussing your government stink stink stink that I dont have to do squat but correct them on points of Ministry and Ministers names...quite laughable if it wasnt so serious...but you know..as Froon says this is all a temporary inconvenience and we behaving like we never saw Potholes in the roads before.
I hope you have a spare room for him when he gets fired in a few months.
In reply to powen001
Powen again...archives time. You aint tired of firing Mr. Stuart?
In reply to Courtesy
Stuart was declared Barbados's first 1 term prime minister
But like Obama survived McConnell Freundel survived
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
I have all of Powen's mouthings and utterings before the last election.
In reply to Courtesy
you should start to post them as soon as elections call..which should be at the last possible legal moment that he can.
And I stand by everything I posted then too mate...
The man is the worst leader Barbados ever had...thats ez an the evidence is so steep that theres no mountain in Bim that could hide it.
that Fuzzy keeps comparing this idiot we have to Obama is still laughable at this stage.
In reply to powen001

fair enough...but its too little and too late..
people cant wait to dump Freundel.
hoping Chris keeps his seat and Estwick.
Mara will be a liability..and weaken that strong hold in St John...mark my words.

And I stand by them words...
only today I heard a woman on air sayin she apologizing to Mara now...cause she aint voting for her again.
Freundel will stretch it out..and I hope he reads this post and calls elections early..JUST to prove me wrong.

In reply to powen001
Powen serious question:
What will the BLP do differently that will improve the country's affairs?
I always find it so amusing that people are hard line Bees or Dems. There are no philosophical differences between the two parties like in the US.
In reply to nick2020
you so wrong on your premise that it makes it difficult to even pretend to answer.
Tell me what is the similarity between Freundel Stuart and Owen Arthur?
and dont be cute...
In reply to Courtesy
I once asked powen if we blame everything bad on the DLP do we then give them credit for the huge increase in visitors the the island?
I am yet to make sense of his responses.
In reply to powen001
What kind of response is that?
Simple one for you powen:
List the differences powen.
For example in the US the two parties pander to bases that have dramatically different views on issues like welfare, abortion, military, gay marriage, immigration, etc. We do not have this in Barbados.
Our politicians go up on a stage in the village and talk a bunch of nonsense and want a vote.
In reply to nick2020
you are politically naive and you bore me...honestly.
I am not interested in bantering with you on this Nick...
There are fundamental differences between the GOP and the Left...always have been there and are still very much there...for some reason Trump has pulled some orange wool over your eyes.
I asked you a simple question and you aint answer so...buzz off...IF you feel Freundel Stuart is the same as Owen Arthur...all the bloody evidence shows you clearly they aint even in the same bloody building but your DLP loving self can stay in that Pot hole until the Asphalt is poured in..
In reply to powen001
powen seriously you answered a question with a question. That makes sense to you?
And not even a related question that exposes me but a totally useless one.
I guess I have been dismissed so I will walk back to the pavilion. Umpire juk me.
In reply to nick2020
I can see there is a fundamental difference between yourself and Powen:
One is short on brains and thinks with an abundance of emotion and the other applies a more pragmatic and reasoned approach.
Third umpire says NOT OUT. Nick you can resume your innings and expose de skunt some more.
I have de video evidence of this...

Way to go mate. Never think with your bottom and make an ass of yourself like Powen during the last election.
the only difference between the BLP and DLP is a letter.
In reply to sudden
I can never make sense of your friend powen. His retorts just never make sense.
What would comparing and contrasting two Prime Ministers have to do with the ideology of a party? Stewart was anything like Thompson? By powen's own admission Thompson, a DLP leader, was not the same as Stewart.
I try not to study it. But knowing we went to the same school is worrying.
In reply to nick2020

If you think I am consumed by what you and the idiot think wunnuh more delusional than I thought.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
what's the matter now Fuzzy?
As someone who left Barbados before voting in any election, I am curious as to the fundamental differences between the BLP and DLP, my following of Barbadian politics pretty much vanished around the time that Clyde Mascoll switched parties.
I read a Nation editorial from last year to see if I could get some insight. I don't know if it's accurate (the best way is to have feet on the ground, so to speak), but am genuinely curious as to the idealogical differences, if any.
the difference that exists between the D and BLP is one of personality and not ideology
In reply to sudden
I am cool Mr sudden. Doan fret

In reply to tc1
Yeah. In this order
Barrow
Arthur
Thompson
Barbados is not ready for a uman prime minister.
Read this quote.
Political posturing aside, under Owen Arthur there was a unified BLP, but the rot set in as soon as the BLP lost the last election and Owen Arthur, as is custom, resigned leadership of the party. It was up to his successor, Mottley, to step in and heal the divisions. Indeed, any person stepping in had the obligation to heal the breaches. But to do that, there would have been a necessity for give and take and a leader capable of compromise and accommodation within reason. Too long has passed and the fracture is now a gaping chasm, which suggests that Mottley lacks either the willingness or the capacity (or both) to heal the breaches or is herself leading the demolition. We note that Payne vs Hinkson is still outstanding and no successful mediation had been achieved or, as far as we are aware, even taken place, to resolve this peacefully, quietly and to the benefit of the electorate.
In reply to TheTrail
all i can say is that all parties fight when in opposition especially following a stint in power.
Thompson was my mate but his time as PM was too short to count towards a rating as a PM. mind you had he continued only Barrow would have topped him
In reply to sudden

key words- limited knowledge

More like the idiot children of slaves only know divide and conquer.
As much disdain powen has for the DLP and Stewart notice the jackals who looked to undermine him were quelled while Mia was usurped. What does it say about a leader who was replaced on the dawn of an election by his/her own party?
The promise of a politician is comfort for fools. And powen. Or powen. Either way.

In reply to sudden
yes..Tom was all that...but ahm...We discussing policies and political improvements for Barbados...
with all of Toms wuffless wickedness that we all deplored, He was a visionary for Bimshire...cant say not..
Financial System, Central Bank...Transportation re a 4 lane Highway...but he only got half of that.
Defense and security etc etc...all under Tom...as much as he was a bastard.
In reply to sudden
ask Fuzzy what Tommpy or Froon achieved in 9 years...between the TWO o them?
In reply to powen001
The highest tourist arrival numbers since 2007 which would have been Owen's time.
In reply to powen001
so the central bank and the Bim financial system were brought into being by Tom? dont mek me laff. the 4 lane highway was constructed by him yes but was not his vision. and he could not do the 4 lanes each way cos he owed COW, gave him the job and had to pay the rest in cash which he hid via the said construction. the said cash that was to pay for the other 2 lanes each way. they dint tell yuh dat nuh.
even so Barrow spoke about a roadway running thru the middle of the island from St Lucy to the airport in the early 70s.
you are one big joker. man cah yuh short me crotch rass frum bout hay

I heard recently from a friend who cousin work at CBC and Tom ran him out of Bim, the guy according to his cousin is a mental case, she cited that Tom destroyed his cousin.
i will be in Bim shortly. things heating up. Jinx Stuart going out undefeated. Sealy, Pitbull, Sinckler and De Don fightin fuh um. i backing De Don but insiders want Sealy, the Dark Horse is the Pitbull and the smart money on Sinckler.
great strategy

It looks like the "pussy grabber " Trump pushing you out ahead of time. Is the Czech ready to take that leap?
In reply to sudden
ahm...And as is our Strength the incoming leader saw it through as a very good idea!
A LA crooked Lashley and the House Bank set up by previous admin...except...that is now a noose for a myriad of reasons.
again , I ask..what does Stuart have to show of any sustainable merit but a lot of insults to his own people and a complete disconnection from Barbadian Reality?
In reply to powen001
The BLP should be the last to talk about crooks. That Party is skilled at that. That Tom group was the most crooked of the lot. Remember Vic Johnson and all that money he stole from Transport Board to buy the Hope Plantation in St Lucy and Lammie Craig who stole so much he said that he could never be broke in two life times. That group ushered in drugs and money laundering in Bim and to this day we have not come to grips with the effect. Tell dem to tell why Tom died? How all dem Syrians got into Bim etc?
Then the Affur regime - which was a case of too much crooks spoiling the brood-they literally competed to see who could steal the most and in the crudest way.
In reply to sudden
i agree wholeheartedly with your big first paragraph...( I was a DEM then)
As for the Arthur part....I glad you stick to innuendo
again..What has Froon accomplished but about 10 straight down grades and sending home people...oops...TAXES and POTHOLES achieved!

a side note: Also, early positive players like Mr. Tin Tun had a major role in the development of the central bank's operational facilities. One of the early secretaries of the Bank is still alive at 95, constantly regaling me with the stories of shorthand notes (many she kept) of conflicts between him (Tun) and the established IMF protocols. Tin understood the nuances of the post-colonial economies very well, and was well respected for his operational management... [just giving you a little side note] all this was in the early 70's
In reply to pelon
to put it into perspective, the CBB was established by an act of Parliament in May 1972. the BLP under Tom won the govt in 76. the first Governor of the CBB was Courtney Blackman, then Winston Cox, Kurleigh King, Calvin Springer, Marion Williams followed by the current governor Delisle Worrell.
the Governor is appointed by the CBB board of directors but somehow frowsy MEEEEEAH effectively has politicised the office.
i remember Barrow publicly disagreeing with Blackman who served under his tenure as PM. so MEEEAH and the Bees could really cah their so and so
In reply to sudden
you should know me better than to talk out the people bidness..you ought to be more concerned with George Pilgrim silly assertions about Power Grabbing while ignoring the clear and present threat to our Dollar Parity.
just saying.

In reply to sudden
I know that but who are the names and faces?
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Oh...well for that you have to ask Powen or Meeeah.
Dem say BS is there to cut BLP votes so the hive organized BIM to cut the DLP votes or versa vice
In reply to sudden
On Brasstacks today the moderator call about 16 parties.
Look the easiest way to fix this broken party system is to empower independents. All too often I hear people say "he can't do nuffin fuh me" as the reason why they do not vote a particular way. If we had a system where politicians regardless of who party they in or even who is in power he/she can fix roads and make improvements to the constituency then the system would improve. Represent them and effectively voice concerns.
Then we would be one step closer to having a better group of parliamentarians.
It is really awful to see a terribly useless Bee get vote out only to be replaced by a more useless Dem only to be voted out by the same useless Bee. Makes one feel angry.
In reply to sudden
Ok I see the lineup in Barbados today
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
duh seh dat Affuh behind this BIM party and trying to undermine Meeeeah once again
duh seh dat Meeeah behind Solutions Barbados trying to split the Dems vote.

In reply to sudden
and neither of the two aint gine amount to a pile of beans.
matter of fact..anything that threatens the removal of your pack of jokers needs an enema forth with!
In reply to powen001
You definitely had an enema to cause you to disaggregate forthwith.
In reply to Courtesy
That article and the infighting in it shows everything that is wrong with the political machinery. It needs to be dismantled. Why must someone attach themselves to an organization to be an electable candidate?
In reply to nick2020
The political machinery to help galvanize political support is expensive if you need to set it up from from scratch and the level of polarization among the electorate is great.
Independents can win on their own...but you've got to be damn good.
Established and successful politicians take part of this machinery with them when they leave an established party.
The resulting new political party gets its strength from the sum of these parts.
In reply to Courtesy
theoretically Nick is correct. there is no mention of political parties in the laws. a majority of elected MPs could form a union for the purposes of governing and said majority could decide who they want to be the leader. so there is really no need for political parties. but such a group is bound to have problems in governing becos there is no central governing philosophy, the MPs dont really know each other and cabinet ministers may not be able to function as a group
however a political party presents a bloc of potential MPs with a certain ideology and if supported by the voting majority at election, people are reasonably sure of what they will get in terms of laws and policy.
the other positives are what you mentioned
In reply to sudden
I got Nick's question all wrong. I interpreted it as: why the electorate do not franchise independent candidates in a scenario of established parties?
Why do they have to run thru political parties?
In reply to Courtesy
Nick's point which is nothing novel seems to be the way to go. political parties have passed their sell by date. too corrupt and too controlled. the days of the professional politician may be at an end
In reply to sudden
I believe strengthening the institutions of government to facilitate a high level of accountability with strong deterrent mechanisms if laws are breached and procedures bypassed is the way to go.
An Independent politician sitting in a Cabinet is not insulated from corruption.
In reply to Courtesy
A person sitting in cabinet is no longer independent given the collective responsibility of cabinet but I take your point. Integrity legislation is one of the biggest failing of the DLP in Bim and something I will never forgive them for, never
In reply to sudden
The absence of integrity legislation that is well policed is what is hampering our system of governance.
.............
On a side note...this is why I applaud PM Rowley for attempting to rein in corruption.
In reply to sudden
Mia Mia on the wall, who is it who just walked into the BLP?
In reply to Courtesy

I will name names so that you can see the problem:
Abed runs in Christ Church (West I believe) and does a good job but it defeated by the incumbent Dr Duguid.
Abed wants to run again in 2013. Without getting into the nitty gritty the Christ Church branch executive deny him that opportunity and go with DePeiza. Duguid drops out of elective politics and is replaced by Maria Agard. Abed runs as an independent, gets more votes than I have ever seen an independent get, fractures the party and Maria Agard wins.
It is reasonable to believe Tan would have carried the constituency.
Another scenario is sometimes poor candidates can ride a wave of change and get in. I will skip the name calling here.
I am tired of seeing poor candidates end up being part of our parliament and I am tired of hearing people call into radio programmes complaining about lame duck representatives.
I believe the hurdle of expense is one candidates can overcome. Barbados is not that big and the numbers are not astronomical like in the US. But to think up of solutions as I type this now maybe some part of government revenue could go into "the next election" and be allocated to help fund all candidates.
The objective is to build a stronger nation. We need to have the best and brightest leading the country. I think we need to find solutions to achieve this.
In reply to nick2020
But you support Kellman, Lowe..Kenny Best aka Kenny Worst..clueless Sukhoo, not delivered a single thing Sinckler, Mute Freundel
you cuss Owen Arthurs warnings since 2007 election and again in 2013 about privatization etc...and you think you have credibility with those platitudes?
* sorry hear...I did plan to leff you alone but I just came home from a rugged work out and pumped!
In reply to powen001
Powen are you intolerant to other peoples' support for politicians?
The last time I checked, Barbados was a democracy.
And one of the fundamental tenets of a democracy, is the freedom of choice, as well as a sacred right to dissent, within the confines of the law.
Only Nick can develop an appraisal system for the politicians he supports or does not support...this is not within your purview and certainly not within mine.
The corollary also holds true with my last point.
In reply to sudden
What year did that happen?
Was that the one in Barbados where the husband head off to work and then made a tacatoo and caught them in the act? Oops, mowing the lawn face down.
Did you know how that ended? Just asking.
In reply to TheTrail
hahahaha. not talking about that tho. talking about something that went down in St Lucia recently between a pol and a lover. she posted pictures of the act. there was also talk of blackmail
In reply to Courtesy
Courtesy all powen does is build straw men. Where have I ever supported any of the politicians he just name? I am pushing for the empowerment of Independents and complaining about the party machinery.
That sound like someone that does back Dems or Bees?
I wonder if he has anything clever to call Simmons for the things he has done? Or Mia? The hilarious part about powen's stance is he is a big Owen supporter yet when asked if what Owen said about Mia being unfit to be a leader is true he does jump off de fence and hide fast fast fast.
We have areas that vote one way all the time.
We have areas that vote out a lame duck, replace that lame duck with another lame duck only to vote back in the original lame duck. But those were the two choices on the ballet box so what can one do?
Powen get on his high chair and talk bad about a man smoking weed yet support someone who assault a person.
In reply to Courtesy
i beg your pardon?
lolololololol
I am intolerant? ha ha ha ha ...
