CaribbeanCricket.com 2017-01-09 06:23:05

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Selectors here have named a star-studded Barbados Pride 14-man squad to contest this month’s Regional Super50.

The side boasts 12 current West Indies players, making them one of the pre-tournament favourites for the January 24 to February 18 one-day championship carded for Antigua and Barbados.

Test Captain Jason Holder will lead the squad which includes Test Vice-Captain Kraigg Brathwaite, and fellow Test teammates Carlos Brathwaite, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shai Hope, Kemar Roach, and Jomel Warrican.

On paper the tournament is for them win but let's see what the other teams have to say on the field about that since anything less than a win would be a failure for this Pride team.

On paper the team looks good to win a four day tournament...nuff solid gritty batsmen in Kraigg,Hope and Chase....but a good one day score also requires quick scoring. Can Carter,Dowrich,Holder and Brathwaite consolidate and deliver if Kraigg and Hope go early?

Then there is the new List A opener in Alleyne, and question marks surrounding the form of Benn and Roach.

The Pride squad could be the side to win tournament but they are qustions to be answered.....the Red Force defending champions are still the odds on favorites to win and the ones to beat with the threatening Jaguars also posed to answer questions.

All I am looki forward to from this group, is for the batsman to score runs, with a ST over ninety and the bowlers to take wickets.
These guys are still young, I am only looking to see them taking advantage of what they have learn ithe last ouple of years

Man don't be jealous of people calling Pride a team of stars.
A Starboy in your team, lets hope he and Bonner can get along.

This team will learn. But truth is, at this level Kraigg,Hope, Carter and Dowrich are very capable batsmen at this level. If Alleyne comes off and Jason and Carlos delivers...WATCH OUT!

They were bad enough calling the side star studded
But took the cake when they named 9 players in that group! lol

Will be interesting to see if this Pride team can muster up to expectations, many teams are waiting to deflate such expectations.

I believe the term "Star studded" was used relative to the tournament.

For this tournament, Barbados Pride has 12 players who currently represent West Indies.

Representing west indies is supposed to be the pinnacle of the game in the region. Only the very best players in the region get to represent west indies. Or supposed to anyway.

Compared to the other territories and their representation on the west indies team (or more accurately, lack thereof), Barbados Price IS star studded bruh.

analyst-kid 2017-01-09 14:13:11

THEY COULD VERY WELL BE STAR STUDDED. West Indies cricket is 80% mental and if these guys are all young and have gained confidence after playing against India,Sri Lanka,Pak,Eng,Aus and SA then do not be surprised if they do live up to expectations.

imusic 2017-01-09 14:20:53

When Barbados is strong....West Indies is strong.

sunfish 2017-01-09 15:33:11

I think T&T has the best side in the tournament and I expect them to win it. Because one of or both Lewis and Hope will fire at the top and Mohammed and Ramdin will steady the middle. And the bowlers in Ravi and Shannon and co are wicket takers.

T&T all the way..

I agree that Red Force are the best side in the tournament. But one year represents a big change in regional cricket.

Last year the Pride's batting was mainly Smith, Kraigg and Dowrich...Smith failed many times and Kraigg and Dowrich came thru for them...when Kraigg and Smith fell cheaply in the finals...the Pride fell....I expect MORE batsmen to emerge for Pride this time around as they mature and build confidence.

Red Force has excellent bowling, last year it was Bravo and Ramdin who held the batting together over and over....I expect Lewis and Hope to improve but there is no Bravo...THAT IS A SIGNIFICANT LOSS as he is to me the best batsman in the WI esp in this format.

The Bajan players are at a point where they must show they are match winners.

Hence my "but" ....they should be winning this tournament so we will wait and see.

How many matches will Carlos play for Bim? He's currently playing Big Bash in Australia, and he's down to play T20 cricket in the PSL in the UAE, starting Feb 9.

B'dos and T&T are certainly favourites to win the tournament, Yard should be out of contention unless they come up with a few surprises.

analyst-kid 2017-01-11 10:43:56

with Brathwaite out, Stoute,Chase and Cummins will get more freedom to play

Brathwaite
Alleyne
Hope
Carter
Dowrich
Holder
Stoute
Chase
Nurse
Benn
Roach

..I think the three pacers in Roach,Stoute and Holder and three spinners in Benn,Nurse and Chase with Carter gives Capt Holder many options.

Is there any room for Warrican and Brooks in this format?

analyst-kid 2017-01-12 10:13:43

In reply to TheTrail

I would never leave out Brooks...a faster and easier scorer of runs than Kraigg,Hope,Chase, Stoute and Holder!

Brooks is Not faster than Holder, easy on the eyes and can generate his shots

I was basing my assessment on what I know of the players SR in regional 20/20s of which Brooks is superior to all except for Carter.

Dude, this is a 50 ovrs thread, is Brooks playing in the CPL?
CPL 2016,What are you basing your facts on

analyst-kid 2017-01-12 15:23:29

In reply to openning

Yes this is a 50 overs thread....but in cricket don't we assume the player with the higher T20 SR would be regarded as such in ODIs?

Case in point...Carlos Brathwaite and Carter are assumed to be the ones with the highest SR in this List A format.

analyst-kid 2017-01-12 15:24:47

Basing it on this

Thie guy scored 137 runs from 12 matches and you got the nerve to be looking at his SR, you got to be kidding.
The guy never stayed at the crease, to speak about any kind of rate.

analyst-kid 2017-01-13 03:39:15

In reply to openning

You are talking 20/20 cricket where he has a good strike rate and yet in FC cricket he stays at the crease for the last three seasons.

What do you have against Brooks?...He had a good A Team tour of SL...Brooks of late has not been a bad player.

You wrote this;

Then this; the stats prove you wrong;
I was basing my assessment on what I know of the players SR in regional 20/20s of which Brooks is superior to all except for Carter.

You then post this ;

Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 4s 6s Ct St
First-class 42 71 8 1926 124 30.57 3 11 39 0
List A 22 19 3 394 61* 24.62 0 2 9 0
Twenty20 12 10 2 137 35* 17.12 134 102.23 0 0 4 6 6 0

The only SR listed is his T20, from 12 games, scoring 137 runs at an ave of 17.12
I've nothing against Brooks, have been following is career from school days, A number of us, have been writing about for years, it is good to see him finally scoring runs, at the regional level.
I am only interested in what these players do at the wicket, therefore I dont think Brooks score or bats faster or is a better batsman than any of the players you mention.
His stats just don't prove it
