Ready to pick the ODI squad to face Ingerland
Does that rule still in effect must play domestic cricket ti get selected or Jimmy Adams made the changes
Lewis
Powell
Bravo (hope problem is sorted)
Samuels
Hope
Ramdin
Sammy
Holder
Narine
Joseph
Rampual
Carter although not my favorite has done nothing to be displaced whereas Hope has done nothing to be retained.
A case can be made for the inclusion in the squad of both Mohammed and Reifer IMO two useful batting allrounders with cool heads.
In reply to DIEHARD
Nurse and Cornwall are to much of the same. Braithwaite is not ready for ODI puts to much pressure on the other batsmen
In reply to analyst-kid
Didn't Hope score a ODI century last time out?
He's a bit patchy so far regionally, but ..class is class.
Carter...meh..still not convinced, but i guess u right, he should get in the squad before Carlos heck he could even mek the final XI over Rovman
Mohammed as well prolly does deserve to be in the squad ahead of Dowrich, Reifer has too many with more experience and investment offering the same thing he does, and he doesnt have the potential of a Rovman, Rovman will keep Reifer on the sidelines for a while, in the same way DJ Bravo, Russell, Pollard, DR Smith and more recently Holder and Brathwaite...made it impossible for Carter to get a look in before now.

.
My squad was selected as such.
5 batsmen wk 3 allrounder 2 bowlers
I wanted to also ensure i had two spinning options, Holder is the automatic 1st allrounder, Cornwall and Nurse are the other two.
No spinner other than Narine can make a strong enough case for selection as specialist spinner..and Cornwall and Nurse are arguably our two best allrounder spinning options, currently.
I am NOT a big fan of Nurse, but he handled himself well on the last tour, and regionally has started off reasonably well with bat & ball.
Oh and in the absence of experience..Brathwaites style of play is the best thing for WI at the top of the order, at least there is one batsman who want be burdened by scoreboard pressure and play a rash stroke
In reply to timeless99
Bravo and Sammy will not be selected for WI ever again, given the WICB's history, its more likely that Shiv will get recalled to the Test team before those two get back in WI colours!!!
Samuels..not sure he deserves to be selected over any of these young guys, anyone know why he didn't play in the last game for LI.
Was he dropped??
In reply to silver
When we get bowled out inside of 35 overs, you are going to be wishing you had Kraig to lock up one end.
In reply to DIEHARD
My two openers for the ODI series:
K Powell
K Brathwaite
Carlos Brathwaite and Nurse have no right in any ODI team.
That rubbish T20 game is where both of them belong.
In reply to analyst-kid
You do know he has a 46.75 average, right?
In reply to TheTrail
Cricketers play cricket baseball players play baseball
In reply to silver
So as Basketball,Soccer, and Golf...
What's your point?
In reply to TheTrail
I concur re Carlos.
But Carter is 29, he might actually be peaking now as a batsman, and in a team short in experience, he seems the gritty type who could be handy, when luck goes his way.
He showed that in the Triseries.
Two edits to my original post..Carlos and Dowrich out...Jmo and Carter in
It seems the best two fast bowlers on show thus far have been Joseph and Taylor.
Gayle
Chanderpaul
Lewis
Samuels
Ramdin
Simmons
Dwayne Bravo

K.Powell
K.Brathwaite
L.Johnson
M. Samuels or J Blackwood

J. Holder - captain
C. Brathwaite
A. Nurse
J. Taylor

In reply to DIEHARD
IN A pressure situation give me REIFER over all the rest of them allrounders but I ALSO AGREE regarding Powell's potential.
A lot of cricket still to play here some teams still have like 5 games to play. I will await the end of the preliminary round before I name a team.
In reply to voiceofreason
doh try dat. We done know your WI ODI team
k powell
j charles
a fletcher
N Bonner - CAPTAIN
m hodge
r cornwall
j hamilton
d sammy
l sebastien
m matthew
a joseph
In reply to imusic
Any squad with Sebastien in it cannot be a squad selected by VOR.
In reply to voiceofreason
LMAO!
Nice to see you endorsing Bonner as captain tho
In reply to DIEHARD
So if you are picking a squad to play in a few months wouldn't you look at the best performers in the most recent competition? If Mohammed and Reifer get good numbers in this competition why shouldn't them get a look in if they perform better than the 'more experience and investment' players?
Wait and see what happens ... some ways to go yet in this competition
In reply to Seechy
Dude cant bowl eight overs for the Windwards, why would you select him for any ODI squad?
In reply to voiceofreason
When I saw that name I was like this could be a VOR team, but miusicman messed it up dere lol
In reply to DIEHARD
Take out Hope and Johnson, replace with either Samuels or Dowrich or Cornwall
In reply to imusic
Well once I saw Bonner and as Captain I knew right away you were smoking something. That was not even worthy of a response.
In reply to openning
Sammy is carrying an injury.
In reply to voiceofreason
For most of his career!
In reply to voiceofreason
Did he pull his clap string?
In reply to voiceofreason
Agreed, maybe I should edit my post to read "Selectin the ODI side after Round 8!!
In reply to Slipfeeler
Cornwall is already in my XI..Samuels retired
Hope has an ODI century, he gets another chance to show wat he's made of,
Leon has been performing well, in List A and regionally for the last couple seasons, and has been a member of WI squads for the past couple of years, I think he deserves a chance to prove himself as a reliable, solid # 5 in the ODI order.
It could be a toss up between Leon and Dowrich, Leon has seniority and a better List A average and the ability to bowl legbreaks on his side in a tie breaker
I will select John Campbell in the side
In reply to Runs
He is averaging 23 from 4 innings this season...total 69 runs with a HS of 66*
In reply to Runs
Why?
In reply to openning
He has lots of presence at the wicket!
In reply to DIEHARD He was sent to England by WICB for his bowling action issues. He's back with LI now. Big news coming on that front too, watch this space
In reply to NYCGURU
Indeed...our ODI side is poor, compared to most other countries, so we have to make do with the best we have. And Kraigg can at least make runs...I expect the others to get out cheaply, and without Kraigg, for us to get bowled out in 35 overs.
Given that the PSL runs until March 5, I don't think anyone in the PSL will be interested in this ODI series.
My 14-man squad, based on these stats to date, and stats for the disastrous tour of Zimbabwe:
1) Kraigg Brathwaite
2) Evin Lewis
3) Kieran Powell
4) Jonathan Carter
5) Shai Hope
6) Sunil Ambris
7) Jason Holder
Carlos Brathwaite
9) Ashley Nurse
10) Jerome Taylor
11) Shannon Gabriel/Ravi Rampaul
12) Rovman Powell
13) Damion Jacobs
14) Alzarri Joseph
Of course, this could change after the return leg matches in the Super50....
1. Kraigg Brathwaite
2. Kieran Powell
3. Shai Hope
4. Jason Mohammed
5. Jonathan Carter
6. Rovman Powell
7. Shane Dowrich
8. Jason Holder
9. Ashley Nurse
10. Kemar Roach
11. Jerome Taylor
--
12. Evin Lewis
13. Carlos Brathwaite
14. Alzarri Joseph
Is Rampaul not a kolpak?
Interesting fact to note: Kyle Mayers was the most outstanding allrounder in last years tournament and yet again he is the leading allrounder: He avgs 44.00 with 132 runs in 4 innings with the bat and 29.28 with 7 wkts with the ball.
He needs to up his strike rate in the bowling dept imo.

He has lots of presence at the wicket!
A team does not only need presence but RUNS.
What is the value of presence if he is not there long enough to score runs CONSISTENTLY.
In reply to mikesiva
if you going to use stats to date Benn is once again the leading bowler as he was last year...but he had a poor tour in ZIM. In Zim I had Benn written off.
My conclusion is that Benn excels in his home conditions so he must be included.
In reply to voiceofreason
3 and a half days left, and my initial squad hasn't changed much, except Rampaul has made his way into my starting line up.
And I'm inclined to shorten the batting I had initially, Johnson gets the chop
Hope is on probation for one match!!! Cos he looking out of form, only selected due to his century in last series
