Powell Hungry for WI Recall with fine form

Slipfeeler 2017-02-06 16:32:41

ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) — Even after three fine hundreds in five innings in the ongoing Regional Super50, in-form left-hander Kieran Powell has still lamented his lack of “big scores”.
The 26-year-old has been on an amazing run of form, hitting 105, 135 and 106 en route to a tournament-leading 429 runs for Leeward Islands Hurricanes, but said he would not be totally satisfied until he began to notch more scores in excess of 150.
“I need to get big scores. I got [three] centuries and two of them are just 105 and 106, so we’ve had talks in the team meetings where when you get in you need to kick on, and obviously I got out with 14 overs left so I think I missed the chance to get 150-plus,” Powell said following Hurricanes’ 105-run victory over English County Kent here on Saturday night.
“Nevertheless, the team managed to get to a respectable total and then the bowlers went and did the job, so I’m happy with the overall team performance.”

The way Powell has been playing recently, he could get a shot at the position. Campbell needs to continue put up big numbers if he wants to cement the position. I support any player who is considered the best player in the best interest of WI cricket.

I like the sound of this Youth as he is not settling for just 100 but 150 plus. Love it!

Wait in line? You're just kidding right? Cause there was no line. Everybody else was just keeping that spot warm till Powell returned. The time to try to claim that opening spot was when KP was away from the game.

Why didn't skipper Powell bat today?

Ok, I guess he didn't want to risk his average when faced with such a small score.

Runs are runs, and a not out with a 50% strike rate would do more for his average than not batting/not getting any runs at all!

The middle order is of major concern so it was important that the middle order batsmen get some time in the middle. Bonner failed but Hammie made use of his opportunity. Good move by Powell.

TanteMerle 2017-02-07 09:58:38

I watched a few games.

I'm not impressed with any batsman but Lewis.

Batsman not rotating strike.
Not playing good balls in gaps for singles.

I have not seen Braffit yet,
but if he plays, he need support from
strikers men who beat ball.

West indies cannot compete with any good team.

TanteMerle 2017-02-07 10:02:15

I watched Powell last 100.

Failed to rotate strike.
Played too many bad balls for 1's and 2's.

The bowling sucked.
He's in god form.
Yet he could not scoe faster.

Bonner looked even worst.

Someone needs to teach west indies batsmen to
drop balls in gaps.
play good balls with soft hands.
stop striking balls hard to fielder
on edge of circle negating a single.

I suspect that LO crcket will harm Braffit tests

Cook once said that by playing LO he loss his ability to concentrate and respect good balls
(I'm paraphrasing of course)it was after he left LO.

Braffit bad bating in the test maybe from trying to score too fast, which is necessary in LO.

Powell is a good Test prospect.
Braffit is a good test prospect.

I see Lewis as a LO opener.
Don't know who to partner him if Gayle is not playing.

There is no place for Braffit and Powell in a Lo team, especially if Lil Bravo in the team too.

We will never make 300 which is par nowadays.

Quite right, I like batsmen who are committed to play very long innings, not just score a quick 50 then think he has arrived as a batsman. Back in the days players would weep when they lost their wicket in the 90's.

Are you trolling too cause what you're saying doesn't make any sense.

KB problem was never about concentration, it was about his scoring rate. And by playing more limited overs cricket he will gain more confidence with scoring off of good balls instead of just blocking.

KP can open in any format. he has good temperament so he has the ability to stay at the wicket, can score quickly if needed, and he can play spin well. Why would you think he can't be in the team with lil Bravo? You can make a case for excluding KB in the ODI team because he bats slowly, but KP must play.

Tantemerle not trolling he is just a clueless one. KP's ODI S/R 81. S/r this tournament is 88.63.

nah man, it had to be a joke lol. How could they look at the form this kid is in and still want to exclude him? It's not like if he played one good innings and a few of his superfans started singing his praises. you'd have to really have something against him to not be looking fwd to seeing him back in the senior team.

So what Tantemerle have against him?
