When you have a talent like Cornwall.

You have to invest extra resources and support in his development. Simple. The youth consistently performs well and that alone warrants the extra resources and investment in his talent.

extra resources and investments..

what exactly does that mean???

They should invest in him the same way they invest should invest in young promising cricketers of which he is one.

This special investment shyte I hear the WICB talking about should not be..it send the wrong message and may not help the kid.

If the kid has a problem outside of cricket and they help help...but this soffocating approach when they dont know their rass from their elbow can only fack him up.

That is nonsense dude.

Why are some NBA players making millions and some making base salaries? You invest more in the players that show the most potential.

Of course some players have already proven their worth but some come straight out of college and sign big contracts, based on potential.

For Cornwall to be successful internationally it would help if he could lose 40-50lbs. International cricket is demanding and it can take a toll on the body. Whatever program he is on right now is not working and it is worth trying another program so let them try something new perhaps his body will respond better to it.

I'm not against investment in players. In fact that's one of the most important roles of the WICB.

What is annoying was that WICB announcement that they somehow will be specially investing some individual coach to Cornwall. They mean his weight. That is disgusting for a number of reasons.

I just looked at Levrock's catch again and that was a brilliant catch if it was Hershell Gibbs or Viv Richards taking it.

I'm not saying by the way that current or future promising players shouldn't work on physical training as part of the whole package, but cricket must dictate that. W. Grace, The Don, Cowdrey, Close would all be considered over weight by today's standards.

Let Cornwall play and do what he is doing and include him in a general programme that takes into account the most promising 10 or 20 or whatever players you have and continue with Physical fitness in the programme and he will achieve his ideal weight in stride. It maybe that given his bio makeup, his ideal playing weight maybe over 180lbs.

The singling out because he is a bit overweight is self defeating. Its like trying to cure a gay man or woman or making left handers right handers.... its so 19th century at best...we are not all the same.

In recent Memory we lost Ravi Rampaul..mainly because of the yoyo selection he got because of weight discrimination he faced. Why should we care about roti belly if he was taking wickets. yet we dropped him all teh time for no reason...he was always taking wickets..even when we didnt pick him.

On that same token....They should gotten a psychiatrist for Franklyn Rose and so many others when it coulda helped...but those hangups aren't as obvious as the little bit of baby fat still on Cornwall or Ravi's physique.

Anyway this whole looming fiasco is so WICB...dont know why I would even expect anything different.

The issue as i see it really lies with the CWI and their mentality when it comes to emerging talent. If you notice, our administration seem incapable of making bold decisions when it comes to potential players unless they get some sort of feedback from other pundits (particularly white ones) first. They would most likely continue to exclude Jimbo until a Shane Warne, or Nasser Hussein or Mark Taylor or whoever, takes notice and asks why isn't this guy in the West Indies team. THEN they would suddenly draft him in. The do this sort of thing all the time. And the opposite is also true. The most recent example being Chandrika. He had no business being in the senior team and failed miserably in front of the entire world. I don't see him making it back to West Indies colors. Your inclusion in the team depends almost as much as how you're branded by England and Australia as by your actual performance. Good branding and you'll play, even if you fail. Bad branding and you'll never play whether you perform or not.

Hmmmm.... more talented players deserve preferential treatment?? I'm fairly sure you used to call them primadonnas for the same reason.

Nothing wrong with a burly cricketer if they are as fit as Jacques Kallis and to a lesser extent, Inzamaam Ul Haq. Cornwall is corpulent and irrespective of his enormous cricketing talent (no pun intended), corpulence is unsustainable on the cricket field.

The real shame is that he's out-performing trimmer, fitter and more talented players. wink cry redface

I like Baby Face, he shows a lot of determination and talent. Problem is he will fail the beep test.

Is that the complete representation of his talent? What about his bowling figures?
