Brian Lara's "record" requires an enormous amount of selfishness and ARG!

And in any case WI were 3-0 down at the time anyhow. And a draw would have been celebrated as an achievement.
So the record would have been MUCH more celebrated (as it still is) than losing 3-1. (If WI had won that match).

You forgot 'skill' and 'ability' and 'mental toughness beyond the average good batsman'

And your brains

A billiards-table-sized ground always helps. I mean it's no coincidence that he scored 400 and 375 at that venue.

you hear.

"While Kohli is undoubtedly a good batsman, i fail to understand the level of hype about him as a test batsman. His current avg of 51.75 places him 23rd out of batsman who have played more than 50 inns. That is below the likes of Kallis, Sanga, Ponting, Root, Younis Khan et al. Perspective is sometimes needed." He's getting into his prime now though...

Once you get that average above 50, then it's time to look at other ways of distinguishing the lot. Centuries per innings, centuries over a career, double tons, match winning knocks, aesthetic value/who would you pay to watch, bigger team impact, etc etc.

Kohli will probably never catch Steve Smith in terms of average, not unless Smith falls back to the pack, but how many people will pay money to watch Smith bat? And is Smith a more complete batsman?

Devin 2017-02-10 01:20:22

In reply to shivnotout

Whoever made that comment is a real ass. Kohli is approaching his 4th double ton in his fourth consecutive series. The reason there was hype about him as a Test player is because of what he did down under to Australia. Now there is even more reason to hype him up.

Did you know that VMFK hit the most number of sixes in IPL 2016? The "worldboos" was a good 17 6s behind VMFK..

Devin 2017-02-10 01:44:48

In reply to Khaga

Yup, and if I heard correctly, he hasn't hit any 6's during these test double tons.
