HEADLINE: Vindication For Dave Cameron

CaribbeanCricket.com 2017-02-14 07:22:49

The imminent return of Mr. Wycliffe 'Dave' Cameron as President of West Indies Cricket for a third consecutive term must be seen as vindication for the performance of Mr. Cameron and his executive. The fact that Mr. Cameron is set to be returned unopposed is an index of how little credibility his detractors have as I relates the criticisms of the stewardship of the region’s cricket over the last four years.

The obvious and expressed dislike and disdain for the Jamaican have come from some prominent voices in and around West Indies cricket, but remain in the significant minority. The majority of stakeholders evidently do not share this negative view of Mr. Cameron, or at least are not seeing a better alternative at the point in time.

It continues to be a handful of active senior players, a few past players and past administrators, and some regional politicians who have been demonstrably vocal against Mr. Cameron and his stewardship of the board. The grouses are for the most part based on the president’s interpersonal skills and his style of leadership, all disguised in a thin coat of covert classism.

Hardly likely.

I think it's more like one of those guys who read my post the other day invoking the adage, "If you can't beat them, join them.".

In reply to Drapsey

Quite possibly.
Mayb eyou should write a longer piece so they'll have more to pull from.

Is this adequate?

Referring to the last post on the thread.

In reply to Drapsey

Yeah,
and I'm saying put together another piece see if they pull it
Cause we know a lot of stuff posted here is in some degree end up in the media in some way shape or form
And it's good.
Just that this article didn't even give a lot of references or really go out to show just how much impact DC have made on WI cricket. And even so appear objective enough to state the facts and let the reader take away from there what they may.

This article is not objective, and not written by a real journalist.

Oral Tracey is a jackass, a man who is just the loudest forking voice in the rumbar, he is not knowledgable on anything cricket related.

This is just insularity, and this article irritates me.

This is what news/ media has come to anyway, this is the age we live in, we don't seek education, knowledge or enlightenment like you would get from Cozier, instead we want to be entertained and amused by the likes of Oral Tracey.

I don't.

Compared to Bobby Fray.. he's a big step backwards.

Sorry..but as i said, I have a problem with what media personalities in general have become, its the reason why Trump can get elected, part of that same movement..

Getting reelected as head of the wicb is like becoming emperor of Rome before it's about to be sacked. The reason he was unopposed is because nobody cares any more. When the EEngland odis are held next month the majority of the spectators will be English. When the pakistan tests are held in April they will be played before empty stands.

Those who are interested in cricket now will turn up in the summer to watch the cpl. To them the wicb is an irrelevance as long as the cpl goes on.

Thank you. Just another way of saying he is doing a great job.

There is no way you can make me believe that no one wants to be President of one of the biggest organization in the Caribbean....

pariaman 2017-02-14 14:32:31

In reply to Kay

It is not about wanting it is the way the organisations are structured it is difficult to replace the regional boards. Imagine in trinidad outgoing executives have a vote!

There is no 1 club one vote.

These boards now select the WICB.

Also there is political interference remember when the JCA was not going to support Big Idiot and Portias got involved?

The system is rotten to the core and the selection does not represent the will of the clubs.

Rastaman 2017-02-14 15:55:23

The decline in test cricket in the region is an index of the global decline of this format of the game. The more rapid and pronounced decline of the test game in the Caribbean is hardly policy and structure related. The fundamental game changer in this regard has been the emergence of the T20 format, a faster paced, more exciting fan friendly, more financially appealing version of the game. A prospect that has led to the region’s top players becoming less interested in playing test cricket, opting instead to be specialist merchants of the cash rich T20 game.

Not so fast Mr OT!!! The decline of WI cricket in the test arena started long before T20. After Viv Richards, the Master Blaster, gave up the captaincy, we saw a slight decline under Richardson and Walsh. There was a turbulent period under Richardson when there was much discontent among players. Lara was a big part of that and WI cricket never recovered. Pat Rousseau was President so one can say the decline started under his watch.

But you are right. One cannot blame Dave Cameron (nor Pat Rousseau, Wes Hall, etc.) for the state of affairs in WI cricket regarding test cricket and its dismal performance over the last 2 decades. No one (President) has been able to halt the downward slide either. T20 has made it more difficult to get back on par as far as test cricket goes because of all the things you mentioned. I don't think the players today are aspiring to play test cricket. They want wam-bam-thank-you-mam and to eat a food in a hurry. There is little that Dave or anyone in authority can do right now to elevate WI test cricket performance. No amount of Structural adjustments and tweaks, personnel changes and jingoistic chatter gonna change much.

Have to compare him to Bobby...he's Bobby's replacement and a sign of the times.

Same thing has happened with radio,s bunch of ignoramuses ..all hype ...with faux American accents..mispronouncing everything..even the simplest of words.

They'd never make it on the radio in the 80s

POINT 2017-02-15 16:58:37

In reply to pariaman

You are absolutely correct , this is
precisely why I have demanded for over a Decade that there must be serious Structural Reforms in the WICBC / CWI & the Regional Boards .

ALL Persons in the governance of Cricket in the Region have only one priority , and that is Self Preservation .

Transparence ; Accountability & adhering to the Principles of Good
Governance aint on their Agenda . FYI
the WICBC is operating on a structure that has been unchanged since its founding .This year will be 88 years old .

WE are now awaiting the Wehby Committee's Report , it is very likely that if it , like the other Reports that were Commissioned , is
also rejected by Cameron & Co ; then
the WICBC will have once again foisted a cruel Hoax on the People in the Region .

SUCCESS IS MEASURED BY RESULTS ;

CURRENTLY IN THE LONGER VERSIONS OF

THE GAME OUR MEN'S TEAM IS WALLOWING

AT OR NEAR THE BOTTOM .

It is true that in the shortest version of the game Our Players are among the best if not the best . However from the inception of this format of the game ; the WICBC farmed
it out , and it was organized & run by Former Great Players .

I cite this to illustrate the fact that the WICBC can never ever claim
that it was responsible for the success of our Men's Team performances in this version of the game .
