Yes. I've also read it (from a link here), that his objective is to make money plying his trade (cricket) so that he can put food on the table for his mother. I would hazard a guess that you've read the same link.

I would further guess though that it's not only Jamaicans who have that need, and would further guess that you harbor similar objective hence your being away from the motherland.
