Trump calls Rowley...

DAVE400 2017-02-20 11:37:42

Talks trade and other stuff...

Say what allyuh want...but Trump is making an effort to personally dialogue with world leaders....

I think this is a huge gesture toward peace through dialogue....

So allyuh fight down the special relationship with Russia...but it is much better than the belligerent and childish namecalling Hillary and company were embarking on....

This is routine- all incoming Presidents make calls to world leaders. Pres Obama made a trip to meet CHIGOM leaders in Port of Spain very shortly after his swearing in

In his first 60 days, he had contacted 108 leaders worldwide.

Pres Bush had contacted 100 world leaders within his first 90 days.

So do not be misled in thinking Trump is doing something different, it is only perhaps b/c of media coverage you are becoming aware of it

Trump knows who the regional leader is,apart from our favorable trade balances with them,we share the same issues as our super power counterparts and thus share much more with the US and other powers than other Caribbean countries..

Did you know Sweden has the highest ISIS fighter per capita rate in Europe? Most tolerant and liberal countries are victim to this phenomenon because it is in our tolerance and liberty that they were allowed to flourish, but we continue to work with our allies in coordinating our collective resources to counter these threats and it's more than just covert operations,it also includes rehabilitation and dialogue, gone are the days of not negotiating with terrorists because today they may be a facebook friend just a 'wall' away.

These experiences are making us a more advanced and equipped country...

When history is revisited hundreds of years from now T&T's recognition in this great battle for freedom and righteousness is assured..We like salt we in everything..

Still on the road to impeachment. The question on people's mind is when will the Republicans pull the plug. Will it be before the midterms or after.

At this rate of odd behaviour by Trump, I would say, unless there is a dramatic change, the proceedings will have to get underway before the end of the year, as more info comes in from the RussiaGate file. The more the latter percolates, the more erratic the OrangeMan will behave.

Hold on to your hats folks.

But the call was about this:
American officials worry about having a breeding ground for extremists so close to the United States, fearing that Trinidadian fighters could return from the Middle East and attack American diplomatic and oil installations in Trinidad, or even take a three-and-a-half-hour flight to Miami.

American officials worry about having a breeding ground for extremists so close to the United States, fearing that Trinidadian fighters could return from the Middle East and attack American diplomatic and oil installations in Trinidad, or even take a three-and-a-half-hour flight to Miami.

President Trump spoke by telephone over the weekend with Prime Minister Keith Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago about terrorism and other security challenges, including foreign fighters, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a White House spokeswoman, said.

Trinidad has a history of Islamist extremism — a radical Muslim group was responsible for a failed coup in 1990 that lasted six days, and in 2012 a Trinidadian man was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a plot to blow up Kennedy International Airport. Muslims make up only about 6 percent of the population, and the combatants often come from the margins of society, some of them on the run from criminal charges.

Thank you and I'm thrilled we have such a convenient garbage disposal option.

Those are the same fighters they talking about, the same story over and over, did they mention that most are now deceased?

I challenge anyone to show me evidence of recent/new T&T ISIS recruits..

So it's a common cause, are we responsible for the American fighters too? What about the American interests in Sweden? Yes Sweden..and maybe the US can now make a better effort at controlling arms and ammunition outflows to the Caribbean ? Maybe that will help also help us on the ground here..

The container of guns Abubakr and his followers used in 1990 came from Miami.

Did you know there's a program between T&T and the US where they host Imams etc with a view to curbing and controlling radicalization?

And with all the haram going on year after year how come no Trini ISIS ain set it off here yet on a number of soft targets? and I believe ISIS is way past it's prime, some good 'feel good' material for detractors though..

sgtdjones 2017-02-21 15:13:33

Emir will say this is fake news...

Imams dont sway locals muslims .they tap them on their heads ask Emir ?

They saw few opportunities in an oil-rich nation whose economy has declined with the price of petroleum, experts say. Some were gang members who either converted or were radicalized in prison, while others have been swayed by local imams who studied in the Middle East, according to Muslim leaders and American officials.

The young men found solace in radical Islamist websites and social media.

And in the call to jihad.

The leading country for foreign ISIS fighters according to Benmelech and Klor is Tunisia, with 6,000 of them, followed by Saudi Arabia with 2,500. Russia, Turkey, Jordan, and Lebanon also rank high on the list. Three European nations, including France (1,700), Germany (760), and the U.K. (also 760) number among the top 10.

Per capita, Tunisia remains on top in terms of the number of fighters. But now smaller countries such as the Maldives, Kosovo, Bosnia, Kyrgyzstan and Macedonia number among the top ten.

Finally, the number of fighters per Muslim population shows the relative share of a nation’s Muslim population that is leaving to fight for ISIS. This list is dominated by Scandinavian and European nations. Finland tops the list, followed by Ireland, Belgium, Sweden, and Austria. Denmark and Norway also rank among the top ten along with Tunisia, the Maldives and Trinidad and Tobago.
