HEADLINE: Chief selector: Ambris did not merit walking into team

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Chief Selector Courtney Browne has sought to defend the controversial non-selection of Windward Islands Volcanoes stroke-maker Sunil Ambris who was overlooked for the upcoming three-match One-Day International series against England starting next month.

In response to swirling criticism over the decision to omit the prolific Ambris in favour of Test wicketkeeper/batsman Shane Dowrich, Browne told the popular Mid-Wicket Radio Show here Tuesday that while Ambris’s form was indeed welcomed, it did not merit him “walking into the international team”.

Browne argued that with West Indies having a packed One-Day schedule throughout the year, he expected Ambris to gain selection at some time in the future.

“I think one of the things we want to do as a panel, and we’ve said this time and time again, [is] that we want to see people backing up their seasons,” Browne said.

Bullshit

One the main criteria and postulated by the WICB and the selectors for ODI selection was participation in the Super 50.

Shane Dowrich they say is a test player , batting in the super 50 bleak , yet we don't select Ambris who is in the top 5 run scorers and a competent enough player behind the stumps . What makes it more baffling is that prolific S. Hope was very good behind the stumps is chosen as the ODI wicket keeper , so Dowrich is selected as an ODI batsman ?

Someone lend an hand please . These selector seem to be pushing somewhat of the home advantage.

8 bajans - Cummins, carter, Dowrich, should not have been selected. Not even sure about C. Braithwaite.

what does that have to do with Devon Smith?

Why isnt Bajan blamed because of Phillo Wallace or Adrain Griffith?

You sound as those stupid racists who say blacks should be judged because of Willey Horton?

I never expected Ambris to be selected , because Windward Islands Players are very low on the Totem pole regarding
being selected on the West Indies Team .
First of all the Windward Islands Members on the WICBC have a policy of not speaking up for their Players .

Then there is an inherent bias against Windward Islands Players . particularly batsmen , This has been going on for Years . There is no problem with bowlers .

Look even after making his maiden ton in Jamaica , Devon Smith was never an automatic pick on the Team . Meanwhile other Players from the Country you have named , just walk back into the Team .

Shane Dowrich will not play in any of the 3-matches (just like on the last tour).
Are guys saying that Ambris should be selected to replace Dowrich so he can bring water. Would you accept that role for him?
Shai Hope, Dowrich, and Ambris all play the same position and right now Shai is the ODI wicketkeeper.
If you are not advocating for Ambris to be bring water then you don't have a point.

@TAGWA1 Ambris made a very strong case for his selection. He made the 4th highest number of runs (423)in the tournament behind Powell, Brathwaite and Hope who were the top 3, and he played only 8 innings. he was ahead of Mohammed, Rovman, Walton and Blackwood, all of whom I believe were selected. He posted a batting average of 70.50 which was the best in the tournament.

The only thing that he did not do was score a century, but with his high score of 75*, who knows if he would have gone on to post a century if he had not run out of partners on that occasion.

As to your point about Devon, he had had an extended run in international cricket and he was unable to secure the opening spot which is still unresolved years later.

Devon played in 38 Test matches and batted in 67 Test innings, yet all he could manage was a solitary baby century of 108, even bowlers do that (Jerome for example and Tino made 95, Sammy also made a Test century) That tells you that he doesn't have what it takes to succeed at international level. He had been more of a regional bully over the years, except this year. In the tournament just past, you have to look at the bottom part of the list to find his name. Therefore, for all of these reasons, he was never, as you said, an automatic pick by WICB, and justifiably so.
