Flat Track Bully Vs Runs When Needed Most

Emir 2017-02-24 06:36:02

It is how you decide good or very good vs great. Average alone is useless especially when comparing batters across generations. For example, today's batters have it made- low bowling stocks, better pitches, better bats, technology etc.

Take Kohli, is runs exploits in flat tracks and T-20 slug fest is well know, but when really needed and against the best opposition of the day, and when your team really need you the most, a 0 don't count.

He still has time, the match isn't over, but he cannot be duck farmer this series, or else all his flat track bully runs will be for nought.

Kohli made a 2 ball duck...with his team now at 44-3...how was he to know what would follow? ONE man never makes a TEAM

Fall of wickets 1-26 (Vijay, 6.5 ov), 2-44 (Pujara, 14.2 ov), 3-44 (Kohli, 14.4 ov)

But I guess it must be fashionable to bash Kohli whenever the opportunity arises...

A 1 and two 00 behind it coming up in the second innings.
I will have to watch him bat for once to see him accomplish
this feat wink

You don't depend on the next man coming in- you do it yourself-

Fall of wickets 1-26 (Vijay, 6.5 ov), 2-44 (Pujara, 14.2 ov), 3-44 (Kohli, 14.4 ov)

Exactly, a wicket had just fallen why go for a nothing stroke.

But I guess it must be fashionable to bash Kohli whenever the opportunity arises...

Many posters including me "bash" plenty players here, sometimes fair and sometimes unfairly.

Why do you see it fit to stand up/defend Kohli when you haven't been doing the same for the many West Indian batters when they are "bashed" by mostly "Indo Guyanese" posters who support India above WI?

Dude...ress youself...you are all too predictable now.

The man fail, and he is due to fail...not every game he will ring up a hundred.

The shot was a brain freeze shot. He came out trying to counter-attack, but was done in by a good trap. Irony of ironies...Smitty caught him too...but this is cricket.

Anyways, enjoy Australia's dominance, they are the better team through day 2. Good cricket this...and this is no flat track.

Please remember that no batsman can ever succeed in every situation. I am no fan of Kohli but let us see what he does next time. On the other hand, the way Devin get on about him, a little bashing make things amusing.

Thanks for your comments.

My post is not about Kohli or about batsmen "succeeding in every situation."

It is about why using average alone is a poor indicator of good/very good vs. great.

I use batters of yesteryear and Kohli as examples.

Look, I really enjoy watching Kohli bat, he is one of the best of the current lot and I hope he comes good in this series, I want to see a cracker of a series.

So he failed again, and nothing wrong with that, even great batters failed at times. The Aussie have a plan for him, unlike the Brits, and thus far it is working.

Look, the bigger picture is a batter like Kohli, he is good and getting better, must prove himself against the very best, this series gives him that opportunity.

Contrast Smith, he made runs when needed the most against a top team, this is what my post is all about

Extremist! that's not what your post is about. You want to take cheapshot at Virat after having been silenced for a long time. You are not fooling anyone.

How is Darren BRavo coming along in international cricket?

Why is it that the Aussies didn't have a plan for him when he last toured Australia and plundered them for four centuries?

Apart from Starc bowling a wide nothing ball and Kohli chasing it, what is their plan?

Devin 2017-02-25 15:19:26

No one is using averages to help Kohli's cause, it's more like centuries and match-winning knocks, especially since there are many batsmen with higher averages, but not many to have scored more International tons, or to have played as many match winning innings.

True. If he continues he may go on to become one of the very best, but first thing first: He has to prove he can dominate this Aussie Attack,he cannot get out like a dunce in the next match again.
