HEADLINE: Browne defends Brathwaite’s selection

CaribbeanCricket.com 2017-02-25 07:53:28

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Chairman of selectors, Courtney Browne, has described Twenty20 World Cup hero, Carlos Brathwaite, as an “investment” in West Indies cricket and argues his inclusion to face England in the three-match One-Day International series should not be viewed purely in terms of recent form.

The 28-year-old all-rounder’s selection has been questioned in some quarters especially in light of his recent failures but Browne said Brathwaite was still at a very early stage of his development and the selection panel was focused on getting the best out of him.

“He’s a young player who is a very exciting player in his day, who hasn’t played a lot of international cricket either. He’s an investment and we all know if we get him right what he can produce for us,” Browne said in a radio interview here.

So picking someone else who is more deserving and performed better in the just concluded Super50 is not considered an investment. These people should just pick the team they want and shut the hell up, they sound stupid every time they try to support their idiotic decisions.

Narper 2017-02-25 11:06:18

Brung is a flip flopping skunthole

Its either you are picking based on performance or not...be effin clear about it

So don't mamaguy players and tell them they have to play in the tournament and do well to gain selection....if your intention is to also pick on so called 'investments'....and ignore some who performed very well

When did Brathwaite ever dominate or excell in any regional competition?

How come the 'investments' are all bajans??? If Braffit was not bajan Brung not have picked him...so Brung could jus eff off with his lame ass reason for picking him

this is a disappointing comment, heavy investements were also made in Samuels in the recent past, I am not saying brathwaite should or shouldn't be selected, just that comment.....AWFUL

I take it you're Bajan.

PS: Samuels performed in the domestics in order to get selected.

It is a fact....bajans are being give preferential treatment

if you feel awaful about the comment...imagine how players who performed well in the recently concluded very long tournament feel...and I am speaking about a player like Ambris...now he is being told he has to perform in a few tournaments to be considered for international cricket,,,Abris has been around a few years and this is not the first time he has performed well in regional cricket

ODI squad: Jason Holder (capt), Devendra Bishoo, Carlos Brathwaite, Kraigg Brathwaite, Jonathan Carter, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis,Jason Mohammed, Ashley Nurse, Kieran Powell, Rovman Powell

The below named bajans are bajan favoured picks in the named squad
Carlos Brathwaite
Carter
Cummins
Dowrich

Barbados has done a great Job in developing players for the first class level, and truth be told they are performing well, Ambris (a player who has done well) has been selected in a representative team and isn't that far away from international duty, but he has to unseat an incumbent, who do you suggest he replace???

Carlos B hasn't quite lit up the place, he is inconistent and is getting by on those 4 sixes in a manner of speaking, but i am sure he knows if he doesn't deliver he will be out of favor, he is not the first investment nor will he be the last..let's see where it goes for now, we have spent a long time with failures of many others before him

Bro, as an educator are you saying, all the selectors are bajans or Browns picks the teams solo?

Stop this nonsense, he has one vote.

Named your incumbents who have solidified their places in the WI team?
Hope?
Carter?
Lewis?
Mohammed?
The 2 Powells?
Without Bravo and Samuels....the middle order is wide open to any newbie

Man....YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE ON THIS BOARD WHO SUPPORTED THE CHANDRIKA SELECTION....and the ONLY one who continued to support it in spite of repeated failures by Chandrika

I and many others here (coming out of the Mudland) condemned the Chandrika selection

How many times do I have to remind you....Chandrika was selected to pacify Shiv fans when he was prematurely and obscenely sent packing....the dumbass selectors ( including Lloyd) felt an indo guyanese for an indo guyanese would be enough to keep Mudlanders and other peeps quiet

Bro, I never bring colour into my cricket, that kind of thinking I hope is only in Guyana.
The youngster I write about is White, and is a very good batsman and Bajan, it is not his color that I write about.
I just do not like this division, it is not in my DNA.

The 2 Powells?

Hope is my only incumbent there and has done well in the Super50, both Powells earn their spot, Lewis did well in Zim, Carter did enough to hang onto his spot, Mohammed held his own also like Ambris......I am sure if Ambris continues to do well he will get a spot, After England we have Pakistan, then we go to England after that, plenty of cricket ahead for a player to claim/lose his spot.
that being said you need to stop with this, as openning said brown has one vote, the selectors decided to stay with Carlos B....

mikesiva 2017-02-25 13:48:02

Young? Carlos is not that young any more. He's 28.

It's not just Carlos. Dowrich should not be there. Ambris or Walton should be there instead.

Cornfused 2017-02-25 16:28:14

What's interesting is that last week he had to defend the selection of Dowrich as a batsman , now this week Carlos B
