Guyana leading by a whole match going into the final 3, with 2 at home
all to lose
The points table confirms that the awarding of retainers contract needs to be reviewed. What sense it makes to lose test players like Daren Bravo, due because of unsatisfactory performance in test, according to Cameron, yet have so many under contract that are not performing for years and, will never play for Windies? From the Windwards why Sebastien and Peters? To be fair every top five batmen should come up with at list a century each year, bowlers should have a 5 for, and all-rounders should have at list a 50 or one five wicket haul, as sign that they are working hard on their game during off season.

My point is if they are not performing during the regular season they should either lose their contact for next season or have their earnings reduced by 50-75%. There should be no free money; let them go and work hard instead of just getting fat and lazy, knowing they have a set contract. I mean why should Windwards only win one game and T & T along with Leewards only two? It's a sign that teams are not getting better and players are not improving.

Retainers at FC level would foster development if the selection is fair and contracts are awarded for the right people. That would needs lots of professionalism at the regional level which I feel is still long way to go.
The contract system was brought quickly to ensure that power of the senior players is removed from the WIPA and the objective is achieved. That short term objective is achieved and WICB should be happy. Now the professionalism part is hard work and I am waiting to see how things progress.
